I’m pushing 70 yrs of age and agree with many of your comments. As a hunting rifle in the woods there is no better than a leaver,or REM. Pump action. I have serval that are 1 moa or close to. Most of my whitetails and a couple bears were shot with one shot, but nice to know you a quick follow up if needed. Be nice to see the 99 savage back in production! I hope savage considers it!

Thanks for the comment Larry! Couldn't agree more. Also, I was going to mention the pump action in the video and once I got going forgot but it's a great point. I am more comfortable with a lever but the pump is a close second for sure. To me, they have always felt a bit clunky I guess. Thanks for watching Larry, have a good one!

With a lot of states now allowing straight walled cartridges in what were historically shotgun only areas they could introduce a new Model 99 in .45-70, .405 Winchester, .350 Legend, etc. Demand for rifles chambered in these cartridges is growing.

They need to make them like they did back at the turn of the century. The .303 99a that I use as my primary big game rifle, was bought new in 1906, by my great grandfather. Every generation used that gun as their primary hunting rifle when it was passed down to them. This one gun has dropped hundreds of deer, moose, elk, sheep, antelope, a few bears, wolves, coyotes, and even a cougar. It helped fill my freezer this year with a white-tail and a muley. Going on 117 years old, still with a good bore, strong rifling, tight smooth action, and it's very much a dependable and accurate shot. Honestly, I'd love a modern 99 to go along side my original.

Agree they should bring them back. I think they need to find ways to make it cheaper to make but the traditionalist probably wouldn’t like it. Maybe make the receiver out of Aluminum. Wood and Synthetic stocks be cool. Not sure if the rotary magazine can be brought back. Box magazines maybe use Pmag. Maybe do like Ruger no1. Start with one caliber have a limited run on the caliber then next year switch to another caliber. If Ruger can bring the marlin why not savage bring back the 99s. Time will tell if it will come back. Lpptg

Your comments about cycling times reminded me of one year (early 80's) where I needed to shoot three times in a quick hurry. I was hunting with my brother and a cousin for some muleys. My brother and cousin were over in a nearby field and I had perched in a tree-line on a 1/4 section. It was early season and we were primarily scouting around. We had walkie talkies and were keeping in communication. Lo and behold, a nice pair of bucks and some does they were following, were moving along the fence line across the field I was on. I radioed to my brother that I was going to take one of the bucks. He told me to take both and he'd be right over to put his tag on one. I let drive on the biggest one (mine lol) and then drew a leading bead on the now running second buck. Just as I let drive, that buck took a big hop and I wound up taking off one of his fore legs. He crashed to the ground and as he was trying to get back up, I was able to quickly chamber the next round and finish him off. That was the first and last time I ever needed to rapid fire while hunting but I'm sure glad I had it when I needed it!

we have killed a ton of northern Michigan whitetail at 400yards with a 300 savage. So with the new technology in making barrels with new calibers/cartridges the possibilities are endless. Hey there, love the video and I was on board all the way up to doing away with walnut stock and adding threaded barrels. I’m old school and all about steel and wood which is a true hunting rifle. I hate that these companies are going to plastic. If Savage brought back the 99 in wood and steal I would order it tomorrow.

Seems to me one great reason over other lever actions is that it is rotary magazine fed instead of tube fed, thereby allowing high BC pointy bullets in standard off-the-shelf ammo (not LeverEvolution). That would be a huge selling point to me, anyway.

Arthur savage was wise behind his years. He figured out the best way to deliver power, accuracy, speed and reliability, for a good price. You can't beat it. It has all the right pieces of all the right guns to make one that has it all. It's not at the bottom of the gun totem pole in any category. Try me. No matter what you don't like about the savage 99, there's always plenty of guns that are worse in the same way. If there was one kind of rifle to give to everyone to use for the rest of their lives, they would always be able to get the job done, with the savage 99. No problem.

My thoughts, if Savage 99 came out chambered in 6.5, 7, & 300 PRC, that would connect the past with the future of new twist rate barrels that carry the heavier bullets and draw in a whole new market share. We must know that Savage is certainly considering some version of the model 99. 125 years of history cannot be wrong!

Hopefully they already thought about this more than on one occasion! I understand that the market moved away from the lever action in favor of bolt action firearms.. but we all know that some companies circle back to a former design ( updated version ). Being an American made firearm to begin with.. I would think that alone would draw interest! Until then.. it's definitely a wish of many vs few! Give me a modern version in 284 Winchester and the entire 308 Winchester family! The 358 Winchester The 338 Federal The 308 Winchester The 7mm-08 Remington The 260 Remington and The 243 Winchester Make the 284 Winchester the 300 Savage and the 250-3000 Savage in limited deluxe edition.. please 🥺

I have contacted Savage as I would think with today's CNC technology Savage could bring back the 99 and only in its original rotary magazine form possibly a detactable rotary version. With Savage's reputation of producing accurate rifles its reintroduction seems a no-brainer. Also to add fuel to the fire. I have proposed to the NRA to allow the Savage 1895,1899 and 99 in their original form with a rotary magazine to be used in the Cowboy Leveraction Silhouette matches but limited to Savage's 30 caliber cartridges and other rimmed cartridges like the 30-30. What better Lever rifle to add whose design goes back to 1892. Just think how many 99 shooters could be added to the match's population. The 99 because of its inherent accuracy may be why it was not included it certainly was used according to the annals of our western history. My contacts at the NRA were Aaron Farmer and most recently Charlie Beers. What needs to be done, contacting the NRA and Savage. Lastly a real winner would be a 99 in 22 Long Rifle even using the Ruger style magazine.

A bolt action rifle takes 4 movements, up, back, forward and down. a lever action takes 2, up and down. The 99 can be easily made in many calibers that are still popular today. It could also be produced in some very interesting modern calibers that it has never been chambered in before. I love the fact that the 99 has iron sights, since I have a vision problem that doesn't allow me to use a scope. The 99 is simple, rugged and of very high quality and the action is strong. Put synthetic stocks on it that won't crack from exposure to extreme temperatures and let me tell you, the 99 would be a VERY popular and useful hunting rifle. I would love to see this masterpiece put back in the hands of hunters. I would certainly make a point of buying one if they brought out a weather-proof version, but I need the old iron sights. I can't see squat through optics.

Savage quality control is useless, I recently purchased a Savage 110 ultra lightweight bolt action in 308cal. When I tried to install a scope, the holes factory drilled for #8-48 screws were "egg shaped ", I had to return it to Savage for corrections. It took 6 months before I got it back, ultimately Savage agreed the holes were bad, and sent me a new rifle. Like you have collect Savage "99's ", but no more. Their quality control leaves a lot to improve.

What would the ballistic performance of 300 savage be out of a 12 inch barrel? In Canada manual action guns can be as short as 25" total length and still be classified as non-restricted. That with a birds head pistol grip would be an interesting setup, basically a Savage 99 mares leg.
@finallyfriday.
@finallyfriday. Жыл бұрын
In Africa a second shot is critical hence the double barrel is KING. The lever or pump are close seconds. Control feed, to boot. Bolt is a slow third and jams often in a hurried and stressed situation. Plus sighting is only minimally disrupted compared to a bolt!! MOA shooting is silly for deer hunting. At 100yds you're deciding between which ventrical to hit!? An 8" circle is fine for deer at 100yds. 1" at 100yds doesn't make you a better hunter. Too much "sniper" mentality. Focus on "hunting" which levers and pumps are perfect for. Savage can own the deer/black bear market with the 99 and also making the only pump action rifle out there. (Hint hint) Let the rest of the world compete for the SEAL team, 1,000 yds, sub MOA, tactical weapons, AR framed, supersonic, high bc market. Blah blah blah- that's where EVERYBODY else is.

@b79holmes Жыл бұрын
So were the 99's manufactured the old fashioned way with a long line of drill presses and milling machines and the rifle discontinued because the tooling was worn out and not enough sales to justify new manufacturing processes (aka BHP)? Can a new 99 compete cost wise with the Ruger-Marlins & Henrys? Do you manufacture them as a high end item like a Blaser? I can't even find a blue & walnut rifle in most of the smaller gun shops around here. Some of these issues are company confidential but I'd like to hear someone in the business chim in.

Savage is NEVER going to bring the 99 back. They would have to retool, find people willing to work, and figure out market demographics (very small). The 99 is NOT a particularly accurate rifle, has a bad trigger, and it's rear locking action stretches cases. It IS, however, an iconic American rifle that I love. In the 20th century it filled a niche in the eastern woods. The 99 in 300 Savage is as iconic as the 94 in .30-30, and a great deal more effective. All that said, we will never see it manufactured in this country again. The BLR is a better platform for short, high intensity cartridges. It's been said opinions are like certain human body parts. This is mine. Good vid.👍

CONTACT THE NRA Maybe with all the lever action shooters that are subscribed. I'm somewhat a Model 99 collector as well. Being designed in 1892 and used out west as well . I've repeatedly contacted the NRA to approve the 99 for use in the Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette matches without success. My logic is that it would get a lot of those "Safe Queen's" out and may increase attendance to the matches. Limit those models of original design with a rotary magazine and rimmed calibers plus the Savage designed 300 Savage. The NRA lets Marlin shoot the 35 Remington for some reason. Other rimmed pistol calibers could be made as well. The 45 Long Colt, 357 Mag, or 44 Mag were never original calibers in the Marlin or Winchester rifles either. With all the subscribers you have sending a request, maybe the NRA would change their mindset. I currently use Marlins but would love to be able to shoot my Savage 99's. A slightly smaller Savage 99 in 22LR, I'm sure, would be a real seller like the Sharps in 22LR. A detachable rotary magazine notwithstanding in either rifle could be a change, too, like Ruger's version I'm sure Ruger borrowed the idea as he did on a lot of "his designs". Just a thought
