Thank you guys so much for the information. I'm new to hunting wasn't raised around it but just felt it in my blood and God's calling. I got your cat road shuffle calling pack for Father's Day this year. Watching you guys hearing your stories and researching has given me the confidence to go solo this bow season here in my lovely home state of CO. Good luck guys on Land of the Free Pt. 2. I'll be following along. God Bless.

These are great tips! Thanks for taking the time to share them. The only tip I'd add is getting to know the area you plan to hunt like the back of your hand, if possible. Learning how the air moves over the landscape during different times of day and weather will make an enormous difference. Plus checking the wind constantly while you're hunting and letting the wind direction determine where you walk to set up or spot and stalk. When I do run into bowhunters, which is rare, many are not seeing elk because they don't pay attention to the wind currents.

Great info, I actually had a question for you guys about how long you stay in one unit before moving on if you don’t see or hear any elk. Thanks for answering that question! Keep up the good work guys I love feeding off the wealth of knowledge from you guys. One thing I kept telling myself is this year to be more mobile. Last year I stayed in one area for 3 days and didn’t see any elk. So I’m going to take your advice and use gohunt to pick the second and 3rd unit I been eyeballing. Thanks again guys!

I have always wanted to do an Elk Hunt. After many years dreaming and planning.we have a 3rd season OTC on Colorado. Been watching every second of all your videos. Studying guys like Corey, Randy and Hush. Because of time of year I am not going to be torching off bugles, but will be covering ground and looking for the sanctuaries. Also have a large burn in the area I’m hunting. Finally it will be the first time my brother and I have hunted together in a decade.much more to share, but thanks for the tips and have been studying the areas we are hunting for months now. My best tip for the Cascades to the coast is to look into the new clear cuts. Look for maple stupa to be sprouting new growth. This can be from 4 months old cut to 6-7 year stump. The fir will not grow back but the hardwoods will. Look for the maple to be pruned back by the elk eating the leaves. Elk candy. You can see it in brand new cuts and the older ones will have mushroom shaped maple bushes. BINGO. That's what you want. September is usually when that stuff gets sprayed or hack-n-squirt with Tordon so get out and find them now.

Utah over the counter tags just went on sale yesterday. July 17th. We have two different tags. A general season any bull tag good for all "any bull" units for archery, any legal weapon or muzzleloader season. Or, we have a multi season tag which allows you to hunt all 3 seasons until you harvest. Quick little info on Utah.
@jeremyt6535
@jeremyt6535 6 жыл бұрын
Forgot to add.. or you can choose to hunt "spike only" units state wide. With the archery tag it is hunters choice of sex.

Born and Raised Outdoors you're very welcome! Our archery season starts August 18th to I think first or second week of September.. First year bow hunting I bought a multi season this year.. usually harvest with a rifle the first weekend of October... Less than a month until season and I'm so stoked! Having withdrawals from not hunting! Haha! Good luck on your guy's season!

So with u guys using aggressive calling to get on elk. Maybe this is one of the reasons u don't hunt Utah and it being an early season state. If u was to hunt Utah and hunt more of the prerut time for elk. What style hunting would u use? Would u still call, call, call being aggressive to try to get that one bull to react to the calls or would u go to less aggressive cow calling type or even spot and stock style hunt? Kinda new to archery elk hunt and curious what plan of attack would be most productive this up coming season.

Love the videos guys. I watch your videos and everyone elses just for pointers and motivation. I have been hunting my entire life and just try to stay positive. My girlfriend compares me to the old man and the sea. How do you guys stay so positive especially when all plans are out the window and nothing is working? Like your trip to Montana. Especially when you have been gone a long time. You want to sleep in your own bed and miss your family.

Troy Westerbur It is not always easy. You have to put it in your mind that you are going to stick it out no matter what. Believe me there was plenty of times I wanted to go hame and see my family so bad. But I had set a goal and I knew I had to do everything I could to reach it.

Yes I agree but I see how positive you guys are even doing the march of shame. I personally am planning my next approach and during the off season my planning is more intense. I watch you guys and you make it look easy. But you and I know it isn't. It is easy to get discouraged. So I guess the question is more about how you stay positive. I know it is easier when you have your bro's there to help. But especially in failure. Because 90% of this is mental.

Great tips thanks for all the information you provide. Question for you. How do you deal with the meat. Lets say you are on a 7 day hunt and you kill an elk on day one. Does someone go out to deliver the meat to a locker? We intend on self processing but if we fill one tag early we will want to keep hunting until the other tag is filled. Any advise?
@bornandraisedoutdoors
@bornandraisedoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
We try to maximize our hunt time as long as we can. The meat is obviously first priority so we try to hang it for as many days as the temperatures will allow. Then we all get together and pack it out, run to a meat locker and get back to hike in that night so we are back to hunting the next day.
@northerntribeoutdoors5938

Thanks for the reply. This will be the first season for my son and I and we are figuring out the logistics of it all. Finding a meat locker that will rent space seems to be quite the trick. Looking forward to Land of the Free 2.0. If you ever get a hankering to hunt ducks on a Puget Sound mud flat you have an open invite.
@troywesterbur706
@troywesterbur706 6 жыл бұрын
I suggest coolers. I live in Colorado and most lockers won't take your meat unless you are having them process it. I take 1/2 gallon milk jugs frozen solid. That fill the bottom of the cooler. I have 2 coolers that are big enough to fit a person in. The Ice will stay for more than 7 days at 70*. I use the milk jugs to keep water off the meat. I open drains on coolers to help the blood drain. Hope that helps you.

They left out a big huge major part of their out-of-state hunting cost. If I successfully draw a mule deer tag in the state of Arizona as a non-resident it will cost me about $600. For your average working-class blue-collar dude that's a week's wages.
@billjones9708
@billjones9708 6 жыл бұрын
Okay guys, I'm from Southern Oregon and hunt elk every year with average success but here is your test. I'm a school teacher with weekends off and can at most take a couple 3 maybe 4 day weekends to hunt. So I'm what you would call a weekend warrior. I try to hunt similar to ya'll as far as 1-3 miles in and hunt closed roads. What would be your recipe for more often success for the weekend warrior that just can't take a week to ten days off. I should say success for me is to get into and be in elk, not necessarily always killing.
@bornandraisedoutdoors
@bornandraisedoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'd search for areas with higher elk densities. It's a numbers game and time in the field dictates how the numbers play in your favor. Don't be afraid to hunt new areas if you are not getting into the elk. Cover as much ground as possible, either by foot or by bike. Get proficient with the bugle and keep fishing for that biter!

I've hunted the northwest part of Oregon for Roosevelt's and the logging really effected my area. Roads closed, nearly got hit by a logging truck, the noise, etc... Has BRO had any experience hunting in or near where logging is occurring during the hunt? Any advice.
@GB-wh3kg
@GB-wh3kg 6 жыл бұрын
Brent Carter I have lived, logged, and hunted Western Oregon my whole life. 1st thing is the loggers and log trucks are doing their daily job and you are on their turf don't blame them. Logging creates fantastic hunting habitat. I do not think the logging bothers the elk or deer at all. When we return to the job site in the morning it's full of tracks of all animals. We used to cat log. When we showed up to the job site and were rained out we'd just grab our gun out of the truck and go hunt right there. Hope this helps you out. Hunt around logging as if it were a burn like you see on these videos. Good luck
@bornandraisedoutdoors

I would totally agree with Gary Bunce . Everything he said is true. I would actually prefer to hunt near fresh logging. But just be mindful that they are doing there job and to respect there equipment and there ground.
@GB-wh3kg
@GB-wh3kg 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks BRO's. I'm just up the road from you. Another tip may be to stop in and chat with the equipment watch guys. They are usually retired woodsman and may give you some tips. After the loggers leave for the day the animals come out to play. Fire watch can be your best scout. Just be nice and share a cold one or jerky

Wyoming doesn’t offer OTC elk tags for non-residents. You have to apply for them and the deadline was January 31st. You can still buy points for 2019, which is the best $50 a person can invest in their elk hunting career.
@crowman5936

Another thing that a first timer can do as well is go for a cow tag. The chance to see a bull of any size is low for first timers compared to seeing cows and bringing meat home. A mature cow on the hoof can weigh 400 to 500 pounds and if you hunt alone wrestling that fat girl is a lot of work. If you can get over the bigger the horns the bigger my balls syndrome a cow hunt will put about 180 pounds of meat in the freezer.
@bornandraisedoutdoors
@bornandraisedoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. At the end of the day it's all about the meat. We are all hunters and if you have a legal tag then I say every animal is a trophy.
