I used to live in Arizona and learned that covering your skin with loose-fitting cotton or linen is the best to keep cool. Most people think less clothing is better but SHADE your body! It works! You're always on-point! Stay cool!

I suffer a lot with hot flushes due to medication, and have found the following things very useful to keep me as cool as possible: - hair up or off the neck (it can look chic too and makes a difference to how much heat you feel on the nape of your neck); - wearing looser, cotton or linen fabrics as you said, makes a big difference. No polyester, acrylic, nylon or acetate for me. The one thing I will say is that when I have a really bad flush or get really sweaty, it is less visible on white clothing instead of colours! - the openings are important to let the air in and out, for example a wider or lower neckline makes a big difference to me, wider arm holes, gaps in the back or slightly cropped trousers for a breeze at the ankle, all of these things are important when looking at summer clothes. I know sometimes high necklines might be fashionable but they are SO uncomfortable in the heat! - wearing sandals instead of closed shoes or trainers allows the air to circulate, and I find that when my feet are cool, I don’t overheat. Comfortable, low heeled or flat sandals are best in materials that won’t rub and have some give in them as your feet might swell. - I always carry a lightweight fan (the ones from Muji never seem to break) and a face spritzer for the more unbearable moments, and to stay hydrated. I live in Scottsdale AZ I have some tips. I wear those cotton bralettes not a heavy constructed with underwire bra. I will keep some bras in a ziploc bag in the fridge for changing into after errand running. So much cooler! Nightgowns I love Papinelle they’re from Australia! The cotton silk voile line. Very pretty. Bedding sheets in ultralight cotton percale. I wear hats that are lighter than straw a blend of paper straw half the weight! and have some holes or looser weave for airflow. I like your tip on removing lining, I’ll check some tops and dresses in my closet. We get higher humidity during monsoon but not as humid as the Southeast US.

What a great idea to remind everyone about the linings on summer clothes. It was smart to cut the sweat-producing lining out of that great blouse with eyelets and use a nude bra. You can get some pricier garments that have cotton or silk linings, but most do not. The excuse for wearing quite large sunglasses and having fun with them is that you need the UV eye coverage to protect from the rays. The lighter the iris, the greater the exposure with more sun sensitivity.

Yes loved this little video and yes it’s hot!! Perthite here. I shopped in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast a couple of summers ago and found a big range of clothes and shoes for the heat. And they were stylish and affordable! I went a little nuts and bought lots of linen and light cotton clothes and a few pairs of sandals. Been wearing it all to death each summer since 😎

Great advice. When driving I wear arm sleeves or a light long sleeve shirt to prevent an arm tan. I live in Texas where summer temperatures average at 100 Fahrenheit.

I live in the states in South Carolina where summers are like what you are experiencing. Thank you for these tips. I’m a newbie to this climate and like you, gravitate to black and navy. I have found white to be my new best friend as well as shapeless dresses that simply flow. I volunteer on a goat far and cover from head to toe with sunblock material, long sleeve, long lightweight pants, and a big brimmed hat. Sounds crazy but it works. You look beautiful and I enjoy your content!

Great point about those horrible linings manufacturers put in sheer clothing. I haven’t found cotton camisoles that aren’t form fitting. Do you have any recommendations for keeping a linen blouse looking fresh? I gave up on linen when I spent more on dry cleaning than the blouse cost. Thank you 😊🇨🇦

I like to protect the upper chest area from the sun, especially, sun damage there really ages a woman. I got a white linen scarf from H&M for this, it’s great because it doesn’t add heat (over high SPF, of course).

I'm from Brazil and struggle to find elegant working clothes for hot weather. But cotton, linen and rayon have been life saviours! Also light colours as well. Unfortunately the hat idea is not common here, so even though I know it could help, I'm a little shy to start using it, cause I know everybody would stare😌

A great video. I am stuck in the USA in the Midwest & it is cold & snowy. Your tips are great I can start planning my spring & summer wardrobe. I was in Brisbane in 2018 visiting relatives & it was so hot & humid. I would shower twice a day to cool down. I use Thera Well Icy Cool Towel to cool down. You can wear them around your neck not very fashionable but it will cool you down. I wear silk it is cool & breathable. Cotton sun dresses are cool & comfortable 💖🇺🇸Pamela

I have done the same thing.... if I find an item I absolutely love but it could possibly be too hot for some reason I will do the same... I will cut linings out , I will cut pockets out etc.

This is why I only ever buy tops that fit close to the body in white, cream, black or navy. Everything else shows sweat patches under the arms. I'm always surprised when I see shops bring out these sorts of tops in lots of colours as I don't understand how anyone can wear them and not show sweat. I love that beautiful shirt with the embroidery cut out details.

Any summer recommendations/tips for those of us who need to cover our upper arms & thin cotton shirts are not an option? I've tried linen but it tends to wrinkle a lot. I do keep my eye out for cotton but it seems to be getting harder & harder to find pure quality cotton these days.

Hola Frederique! Now in Argentina we have a heat wave, 41°c, the problem is dressing for the office (luckily I only go twice a week), but I wear cotton blouses and skirts. I'm taking advantage of the mandatory use of face masks to use only mascara, hahahaha!!! The rest of the days I'm a mess in shorts and baggy shirts.

Dove body spray is so nice for keeping sweat minimized on those hot days. Linen fabrics, how do you keep them so nice looking? I avoid linen because it wrinkles a lot, but you make them look nice. Do you iron it?
