During my children's upbringing, I made it a regular practice to use my GoPro Hero 2 to record our various adventures. My son Davey really wanted to buy a diamond and I wanted to buy him one as a memory when we were in New York City in the Diamond District. Make sure to watch the end of this video where 18-year-old Davey find the diamond still in his drawer.
The Diamond District on 47th Street in New York City is one of the premier locations globally for the buying and selling of diamonds and other precious stones. This stretch in Midtown Manhattan, nestled between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue), is home to hundreds of independent jewelers and diamond exchanges. It's a bustling marketplace where both wholesale and retail transactions take place daily.
The exact number of diamonds bought and sold in the Diamond District is difficult to quantify due to the vast number of transactions and the private nature of many deals. However it's estimated that approximately 90% of the diamonds entering the United States pass through New York City, with a significant portion of those transactions occurring in the Diamond District.
The Diamond District became a center for the diamond trade in the mid-20th century, primarily due to the concentration of jewelers, diamond cutters, and merchants in the area. Its location in Manhattan, a global financial and cultural hub, also contributes to its significance. The district offers everything from raw stones to exquisite jewelry, making it a one-stop-shop for all diamond-related needs. This concentration of expertise and resources has solidified its status as a central marketplace for diamonds.
The Diamond District is not run by a single entity but is made up of a variety of businesses, including individual jewelers, small and large retailers, wholesalers, and diamond exchanges. These businesses are often family-owned and have been passed down through generations. There are also important organizations and trade groups that represent the interests of the businesses in the Diamond District, such as the Diamond Dealers Club, which acts as a central body for the trade and arbitration of diamond transactions.
The Diamond District is considered one of the best places in the world to shop for diamonds and other precious stones due to the vast selection and the depth of expertise available. Customers can find everything from affordable gems to rare and high-value diamonds.
The area's reputation for quality, variety, and competitive pricing, combined with the expertise offered by the merchants, makes the Diamond District an appealing destination for both novice buyers and seasoned collectors. However, as with any high-value market, it's advisable to proceed with caution, seek recommendations, and consider independent valuations where possible.

That’s cool he still has it! Not about the value or lack thereof but rather the memory. I have a men’s gold ring my mom and I found in a service merchandise parking lot in 1989 (I was 6) and I still have it to this day

What a wonderful teaching moment for your Son. He will always have that memory, and will treasure the diamond he bought with his own money. You can be very proud of the job you have done as a Dad. You have exposed your children to so many experiences, and have listened to them as you have taught them. David, I wish all children could have the kind of parenting you give to the little guests in your life, who grow to become the future. You are a rare man.🖤🇨🇦

What a beautiful video. There is no greater gift to children then teaching them how to look. Funny to see not only how David films here, and what the camera sees, but also how he expresses to the kids what he himself sees around them. Also wonderful to give a child the responsibility of buying a diamond, and to see that he still has it!

Diamond $100. Family memories, Priceless. It would appear you got a later in life start with your kids, as did I. Thinking I probably won’t see grandkids, I’ve been on a parallel track of Dad and Grandad for my daughter. To my wife’s dismay.

Teaching your kid valued money and investing all on a day out! In a country with a majority of kids can’t even read at their own grade level. This is a breath of fresh air! People nowadays don’t understand value, quality, let alone understanding how money works! I don’t know why, but this made me happy! I feel like there’s actually hope for this country! It took a five-year-old to convince me that!

My mom's friend was a well known jeweler.in town and they dated for 10 yrs. Yes he sold single diamonds then. And at that time, all jewelry stores put diamond rings in their windows. Not now. This is a dear video of your son buying his first diamond.❤❤

Well besides him being ever so cute & knowing what he wanted I was taken by how U just open the door to a diamond store without any security at all! How times have changed. I doubt U could just walk into a diamond store with lots of other people milling about in the store at the same time withOUT security! I would imagine now maybe 1 at a time in a diamond store these days or armed guards,cameras,metal security bars, etc. Thanks for sharing this lovely story!

As a South African, I can tell you diamonds are a complete rip off. The price is totally imaginary. The greed, corruption and crime surrounding the mining industry is disgusting. Please don't invest in diamonds. Rather choose lab grown gems.
@orlandooracle7008
@orlandooracle7008 Ай бұрын
I’ve heard that a lot of jewelry companies have moved to making their own diamonds in the laboratory these days. They’ve figured out a way to create lab diamonds that have the DNA and makeup of a real diamond so to a jeweler they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the mined diamond and the lab created diamond. Also I have a question for you. Is there still a disgusting war between men mining diamonds and totally unethically stripping them from Mother Earth? Is there still bloodshed over them? And people losing their lives? Now that they have a way to produce lab simulated diamonds that have the same exact DNA as natural ones there’s no need for the bloodshed and the human lives being destroyed. Especially over something as simple as a gemstone.

@@orlandooracle7008 Where ever there is money to be made, there will always be greed and abuse. Africa is especially guilty of this. Corruption and crime are rife and unchecked. Personally I have a lab created white sapphire as my engagement ring. Its absolutely beautiful and sustainable and affordable and no one was hurt in its creation and delivery.
@Sol-Cutta
@Sol-Cutta Ай бұрын
Your actually quite wrong..lab grown diamonds are distinguishable. They also have cheap detectors that can tell you if the diamond is lab grown. They dont cause a decrease in real sales ..not many people want lab grown as they are overly white and not of the same quality,also they don't have inclusions.
