Can confirm, I'm 1200 I play Vienna all the time and I've only faced the main line 2 times ever, one against my 1600 rated friend and another against a 1000 who didn't know the main line after move 5

I thought it was me. lol. My elo rn is 974 and I was against an 1181 rated player who played vienna 2 days ago. I didn't know how it's played properly and I lost that game.

why you studying this stuff as a beginner? I am 2200 and not play the main line of the vienna. I mean even if I take the pawn, most of you folks won't win. Do some tactics instead

Yeah I've only played mainline once. We went into this line where we traded queens and were basically in the endgame as the opening ended Edit: Im a 1200

That's why you need the knight on g5 for the greek gift, because in that case, after Kg8, Qh7 is mate with the knight protecting.

It shouldn’t be called “Greek gift” because that move comes from an Italian chess player named Gioacchino Greco (and Greco is the Italian for Greek) but since it’s a last name, no one should translate it

I think your time stamp is a couple seconds too late. If you meant taking back the Knight. At his elo tempo is very important and so you dont want to develop your queen first since it could be easily attacked while letting the opponent develop. This would lose you tempo.
