It is improper to refer to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the “main church” just because it is the largest. A better moniker to use is the Brighamite branch of Mormonism.

Stayed as an avowed atheist through college, but worked with a student who belonged to an on-campus Pentecostal group. He had a sense of peace I envied, and his group was open and welcoming, even to a professed atheist. Within a year, I had reconciled with God and joined the house church that the group’s leader belonged to. There were probably 12 core couples in the group, and several dozen other members. We met in one of the Elder’s basements, had Sunday potluck dinners at another’s house, and miscellaneous places for study groups during the week. A year or so into my membership, I connected with a new member and six months later we were married. We started a typing business, moved into a rental home where we could grow the business, and two days after we moved in, the water heater blew up. The house church’s response was: “You must be doing something wrong. Repent!” We decided to find another church. This was 1974, in Northern Virginia. Think dedication of the Washington Temple. We had had no insurance, so my husband reached back to his military training, and found a job working in nuclear power plants while they were down for maintenance. His first assignment was in Maryland, and as I was driving him to his assignment we passed the DC Temple. He pointed and said, “They’re family oriented. Why don’t you check them out?” I can still feel the hairs on the back of my neck bristle. “You want me to talk to THEM?” Pentecostals typically see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as one of the 7 DEADLY CULTS. But he was my husband, so I called them when I got back home. The evening before the second missionary visit, my step-daughter had a seizure. Not wanting to stand up the missionaries, I called the member who was scheduled to accompany them to let them know I had to take Linda into DC to the doctor’s office. She knew that my husband was out of town, and concerned that Linda might have another seizure while I was driving, she said: “So-and-so lives on your street; why don’t you call her and see if you can borrow her husband to drive you downtown?” Given the underlying currents of gossip and jealousy in the house church and the churches my parents still attended, the phrase “borrow her husband” was mind-boggling. By 10 pm that night, at least 10 members of the ward were downtown with me. I hadn’t read the Book of Mormon, barely knew the Joseph Smith story, knew nothing of church history and polygamy and all the other ‘hazard markers’ of the Church. I simply knew that the gospel I had heard all my life in theory, I was watching in action. I was baptized three months later (1977). PS. I called my husband in Georgia (his 2nd assignment) and told him I was joining. His response: “I was joking.” Come to find out, he had joined the church as an 18-year-old, newly married soldier in Germany. He was able to be re-baptized in 1978, and we were sealed in the DC temple in 1979.

I also do a ministry where I visit different churches and I can say that I personally play it on a church by church basis.

That's a good question. First thing is I'm going in to worship Christ. The documenting aspect makes it extremely memorable and helps my own faith walk, and likewise, hope it helps others faith walks with a pinch of curiosity thrown in. Unconventional for sure. It's a learning process. Kinda like Adam, disclosure comes down to a case-to-case (... or maybe, it should be church-to-church) basis - moreso as a result of interactions. I want to be genuine and authentic, so there's no use to announce it to everyone. If it gets brought up why I'm visiting by someone in talks, I always will bring up that I visit a new church each week. Some are intrigued, others almost dismiss it and don't acknowledge it. Just never know. With the Latter-day Saint churches, those have garnered a lot of attention compared to other videos. Thats been a surprise. I'm reassessing if I go to more Restoration churches in the future, if I should proactively bring it up upfront.

It is the one of the copies of The Book of Mormon the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hands out for free. It has nothing to do with the Community of Christ Church. They do their own thing.

The Book of Mormon he held up is published by The Church of Jesus Christ with headquarters in Monongahela, PA. We have a couple different bindings with the same copy. All with the words of Christ in red.

I believe God wants us to submit to HIS way, not just do whatever we want our own way. Part of following Christ is sacrificing our own will and obeying God's words. Of course God loves us where we're at, and often tailors or paths and experiences to what will be best for us, but that doesn't mean God hasn't set forth a specific way for us to follow. ♥️

The words born again and born of god are used 5x more than in the New Testament with story after story of baptisms of fire and angels visiting men with healings and profound spiritual gifts obtained by the born again believers in Jesus. The LDS church has no business claiming the book as their own as they preach an entirely different doctrine.

@@cab9191 I am not Pentecostal. I don't know anything about the Pentecostal Church. I do know however that The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Christ. In The Articles of Faith it says clearly what believe. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as long as it is translated correctly. We also believe The Book of Mormon to be the word of God. Separate the Book of Mormon from the Church?? That would be like separating your brain from your body The number of times that it says born again The number of times that born again and born of God are found in the Book of Mormon and The New Testament is not important.

Interesting thought. The Church of Jesus Christ (Monangehela,PA) is in no way affiliated with the LDS group. Most importantly, absolutely none of us claim to be the Christ, only to serve Him. Christ said “if you love Me, keep My commandments.” We are doing our best to do just that, keep His commandments.

We in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints celebrate every persons belief in Christ and for living the gospel to the best of their ability and knowledge. Well we should be doing that however we have a few Pharisee who end up pushing away people not feeling that they live up to someone’s perceived standards. I think Christ would love and accept each person for their endeavors.

Appreciate your caution to follow scripture and be wary of false christs. Of course this has been true throughout time. We do not profess any such teaching and really aspire to follow Christ's examples such as feet washing. We do not for example baptize the dead or babies, we do not believe in celestial marriage and there are many other distinctions we hold because we believe them to be in direct conflict to the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I think if you were to ever walk in the door of one of our churches what you would be greeted with is Christ's love. God Bless you and I appreciate your concern. I was raised outside of the church and ended up falling in love with it because no where else did I see such love exhibited to me and other's. Miracles I could testify too personally, but the greatest miracle of all is the love of Christ shown by our small church.
