I once saw this video and did not comment, but I feel somewhat compelled now to just say you have one of the best .22's ever made. The Remington 581 is highly regarded amongst many hunters and shooters including myself. I still own my first .22 rifle, a Remington 581.

Just keep in mind that when you fire it without a round in the chamber you run the risk of fire pin breakage and damage to it and the chamber wall of your gun. Very nice rifle, clean it up throughly and find out about the magazine you will have a great rifle.

53 isn't old for a .22, doesn't look like it will last much longer with the way you're handling it.

Nice. I got the 582 (tube magazine). It was originally used by my uncle for ROTC back in the late 60's or early 70's but after that, it just sat in my grandfathers closet for decades. When my grandfather died about 10 years ago, the family knew I was the firearms enthusiast so it was passed on to me. At some point, one of my cousins was messing with it when he was young and broke the safety/bolt release lever (thankfully it was never loaded when sitting on a shelf in the closet) but I took it to a gunsmith and he reattached it. I've put probably about 1500 rds though it over the years. Fun little plinking gun. No scope or anything, just the iron sights but it's reasonably accurate still. It's no competition rifle but it'll knock down pop cans or squirrels from a respectable distance just fine. At some point I'd like to get a more precision .22 bolt action that is worth putting a scope on (I'd really like a Tikka but it's not in the budget for now) but for now, this rifle works great for target practice on a budget. In fact, about 3 out of 4 trips to the range are with a .22 these days.

Thank you very much for commenting on my video. Nice, nice to see that I am not the only one who loves Their old Great Grandpa's .22, And that is a nice history about your old grandpas .22, no I don't know if this matters at all but I have a fairly decent precision rifle of my own it is a Ruger American 20 to 20 inch barrel I think I knew there were two different sizes so I believe it was an 18in size and then a 20in size Barrel but basically once I brought it home from the gun shop and took it out to the range the first shot I fired out of that thing was dead center, However 4 scopes I bought myself a nice old 22 scope and I broke it then I ordered myself in even cheaper scope for my 22 and well it's crap basically old .22 nice never going to have it fixed because it's quite a dangerous weapon right now .22 Ruger American really like it I would highly suggest

I have a 582 also. The 580/581/582 series are very accurate, the 6 lugs lock up very tight. I have a 3X9X32 scope on mine and it does very good at 50 yards. Bought mine in 1978 new.

Would you please be so kind as to explain what you mean, not to sound demanding but I was very into explaining about the 22 rifle, that I probably forgot about some firearm safety

@@mikebeddingfield2144 okay first I could have swore I said in the video that my face and my head was nowhere near the barrel but the camera was, and second thank you very much for taking time out of your day to point that out to me, and third I have fearful respect for all firearms I do not care what caliber it is I always treated like it is loaded and I always make sure it is unloaded at all times, and once again thank you very much for commenting on my videos and pointing out stuff I did next time I will point out that I am not sticking my head in front of the rifle but I am sticking in the camera in front of the rifle

Do not dry fire a rimfire rifle. damage to the chamber and firing pin will eventually render the firearm useless. Learn prior to doing!

Yes thank you very much you are indeed correct, but I would like to point out that rifle I think my grandpa said was like 80 maybe even older but in any case it has been used so much that it has been rebuilt 3 different times and due to the wear and tear I will more than likely fully restore it to original condition but not ever fire that rifle again due to the fact that it is a safety hazard to me and my family, But in any case thank you very much for leaving a comment on my video, I do in fact have another rifle video on my channel if you would not mind going and watch Matt and seeing if I did anything wrong in that video and please do not be afraid to point out anything I have done wrong or am doing wrong

Man, you really know how to do a video, not rehearse, rehearse, rehearse!!!!!
@gregrbearclaw6316
@gregrbearclaw6316 2 ай бұрын
I've always thought that rehearsing a video or doing a script takes the authenticity of the video out. However, you're not wrong; a little bit of rehearsal wouldn't hurt. It might actually cut the video time in half because I'm not stuttering and stumbling around as much. Thank you for your comment, and I will take your suggestion and see what I can do.

I do not know if you made it to the point in the video where I explained it was rebuilt over three times by my grandfather and his brothers and even their father, and I have done a lot of maintenance before I even fired it, so could you please explain what you mean by no maintenance, and if by any luck it will be passed on many generations down the line. And thank you for your comment.

The reason the bolt won't close is because the clip is going in too far !!

I would say the way you're throwing it around, some of those scratches and dings came from you, it looks like it's had a rough life !! The finish looks like polyurethane someone just brushed on it ? If you get a nicer gun, I hope you treat it with more respect than you're treating that one !! Just saying !!
@gregrbearclaw6316
@gregrbearclaw6316 8 ай бұрын
See now from your perspective it seemed like I was throwing it around but quite the opposite I was attempting to use it as gently as possible one-handed while also being horribly sick that day and also this is before I had any sort of proper camera equipment so I was using it one-handed. And just for future reference please do not accuse me of being disrespectful to that magnificent antique I was given by my grandfather

Oh and if you didn't make it to the part of the video where I explained it's a fourth generation rifle, and that my great-grandfather all of his brothers my grandfather all of his brothers and all of my grandfather's children and grandchildren all handled it all used it and more than likely all dropped at some point in time, For reference that's anywhere from 60 to 80 people that I know of over almost 90 years. thanks
