Hi Stan. This project was to keep me busy this winter. By the time I found and bought the following: 30 year old 581, stock, front sight, back sight, magazine release, magazine guide, magazine, sling swivels, scope rings, two unique screws, and the finishing kit, I may as well have bought a Sako. I have always wanted one of these guns, so within in a couple weeks of now the gun should be put together. BTW, if you look carefully at the list of items I purchased, I did find a mint rear sight which included the base and mounting screw. I have everything I need to put this gun back together. Just finishing up the stock. Sometime this spring I will take it out to the range and see how she shoots. That will be Step 4. Hope you get a chance to watch it.

I have a 581S I purchased new in the 1980s...the barrel is not free floating....is there a pressure point on the stock by design or will this 22 shoot more accurately with a free floated barrel? THANKS.

Hi Ken, Great project. I have a model 541 T. It is a great shooter but the magazines are really junk. They are polymer both the five and ten round. I'm contemplating on doing a magazine conversion using the metal magazine and catch release from a Remington Model 513 T or a Model 512. Is your magazine polymer or metal ?

+peshewa0529 Hi. No, unfortunately my magazine is plastic. I have 3 of the 10 shot clips. Very hard to find 5 shot clips in Canada, and we can't get them shipped from the States. I remember this clip in the late 70's. I had a Remington Mohawk 10C. It always jammed, and I was young and just didn't understand. I know that I used to buy Remington ammo (when I had extra cash) for it once in a while and it never jammed. Good luck on the metal clip idea. I know guys do this. Too bad Remington won't just make a million metal clips. Pretty sure they would sell in a week. LOL.

I will let you know how the conversion works out.
