To hear a 4th generation custom rifle builder say: “Not Everyone Needs a Custom Rifle” shows the confidence Bobby Hart of Hart Custom Guns has in his shop to help anyone seeking to improve their accuracy no matter their budget.

So very true. I took my old Remington 30 Express to Bobby and when I received it back, the gun went from a four inch group at 100 yards to a cloverleaf at 100 yds. It's amazing what having the accuracy package done does to your rifle. Thank you guys. Jeff D.

Wow, $344?! Think this is the first video I've seen where someone mentions the price. That is not bad at all when you factor in these guys know what they're doing, have hundreds of thousands of hours of experience, and you get multiple results. Awesome!

@@gypsyfreedom9836 perhaps. But what would you get if you took said better gun to him? An even better gun. At some point there will be diminishing returns and to fully optimize the firearm, you’d have to get an aftermarket barrel

Hart barrels are Apex Predators. Top of the line . I had a Hart .308 Winchester on a Mauser 98 action and if I tried to miss the bullseye I couldn't . One ragged hole at 100 yd. 155 grn Hornady shot a 110 lb. Deer at 200 yd . Shot for the heart . My brother cleaned it and swore he couldn't find the heart . My next Barrel swaps will be Hart . I have one build with a Dan Lilja barrel. When I bought it I didn't know all of his barrels are button he no longer uses broach , says it takes more time and isn't any better . I have had some Remington Barrels that were good , but not a match for Hart !

If you lap the lugs on an existing action thats been used, does it change the head space to where you have to take the barrel an action apart to reset correct headspace ?
@tractoptics1120
@tractoptics1120 6 ай бұрын
In speaking directly with Bobby Hart about this, the change in go and no go gauge is just 4 thousands of an inch. Therefore you do not have to correct headspace when the lugs are lapped.

How do you lap lugs without messing up headspace?
@jenpsakiscousin4589
@jenpsakiscousin4589 3 жыл бұрын
It would take a lot of work to change headspace by lapping lugs to a meaningful amount, unless the bolt lugs are really really bad. Typically you would do it before headspace is set but you can touch them up after the fact. Actions today are made a lot better than old and require very little lapping. I did a mauser 98 last year that ended up having .004 taken off just the top lug before anything started to show on the bottom, vs a New savage action that didn't even need it done at all. That's a really good question tho. Whenever I do lugs on a finished rifle I check headspace periodically if I'm taking off a good amount of metal. I have some thin Mylar tape that is about .001 thick and I stick it on the back of the go gage till it just barely closes as a reference.
@drd1924
@drd1924 2 жыл бұрын
depends on how much the lugs are out...if headspace only changes .0005" to .001" that amount is negligible compared to many factory guns whose headpsace can be as much as .006" After lapping lugs if you reload your brass....just bump the shoulder back .001" when FL resizing.

I agree with this, with a BUT... Say you buy a new car, and the emergency brake is on. Brand new design, whatever, no one anywhere knows this is even a problem. You drive it for 6 months, 8 months, whatever. Then you take it to get routine maintenance and they're like, "Hey buddy, did you know your emergency brake is on?" It's been LOCKED ON the entire time you've owned the car. They fix it, and you're like WOW, this car is COMPLETELY different now! Yes, most people will not be able to outshoot their rifle. But there are some things that can be done to the rifle that will help make you a better shooter. It's not the shooter's fault he can't hit the target when his barrel is BENT, see what I mean? (Although I do agree with you.👍)

If you use good quality rings and not some leupold crap, lapping the rings is totally unnecessary. But every other point, I can agree with. Though I shoot only with a 2lbs/900 gram trigger. I will not go heavier, nor really lighter.
@tiputipu777

@Travis Thacker Yes, but there is also no reason why not to use a sub minute gun with todays technology. I use my moose hunting rifle for prs and bird hunting. Shooting should never come down to your gear failing or not trusting your gear. Many people buy crap optics that dont track, do their drop data the right way but end up missing because the scope doesnt work like its supposed to and end up questioning if they did something wrong even though they did everything right. A rifle is a tool, why would you buy something that doesnt work properly or breaks constantly? If you have shit gear, you dont know if you are doing your fundamentals properly because your gear doesnt work properly. Same thing with accuracy: if you have a 3 minute gun and you are new to shooting, you have no way of knowing if you are actually shooting it properly or not and you wont be able to build the fundamentals of marksmanship or your confidence in the ability of shooting a rifle. The same way with a truck. would you buy a truck that costs 1 grand and works like crap or would you buy a 10 grand truck that actually works like it is supposed to and you can rely and trust it that it wont fail on you when you need it the most.

No mention of squaring the bolt face, squaring the action face, squaring the lug to the action and barrel. Recutting the threads to ensure that the barrel and action are square up. Lapping won't help a COMPLETELY neglected barrel that is rusted and pitted inside. Also, some factory barrels are so terribly made that no amount of lapping is going to help it. Some factory barrels are just overloaded with damage and tool marks from the manufacture, but you'll never know until you get it home and check it with a borescope.

Hey is Bobby's response....Head spaces is 4 thousands at the most you may take off a 1/2 or 3/4 of 1 thousands just to get the lugs lapped typically one log will mate and the other lug may just take a little bit bit head spacing from a go gauge to a no go gauge is 4 thousands. Feel free to call Bobby directly at 570-441-4177
