In this video I show you a trick the old timers used to lube up the injection pump on a ford with the 6.9 or 7.3 idi diesel engine. this trick is a good idea after a truck sat for a long time. or if it is stalling and dying on deceleration or between shifts when you let off the throttle. classic symptoms of a stuck metering rod. Hit that 👍 thumbs up before you take off. Really appreciated by this small youtuber trying to beat the evil algorithms and get information out to more people that can use it. She's running great now! Blue Nose happy. ATF/DieselKleen are good combo. To that point, I had never tried 50/50 tho. I guess from lack of knowledge on how well ATF burns so I'd put 25% of fuel in the filter but seeing you going 50/50 makes me wanna try and I will do just this week because my filter is due for change. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience. Keep buildin' shit!

I worked for a food processing company and have burnt veggy oil, cooking oil, sun flower oil, fish oil, used oil, etc. Diesel fuel was not a thing until Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine, he used peanut oil. Won't run on ATF is defiantly said by someone who does not understand how a diesel works. In the 1970's Mercedes 220 Diesel manual they suggest adding a half gallon of gasoline to the tank in the winter, for easier starting. I don't suggest you try this with any other vehicle, and the new diesels in general are not as friendly to changes as the old school diesels.

@@worthshop I don't know if this case is true for you or not, but I know some people get hung up on taking donations when you feel like maybe you (and your family) don't need them. And that's perfectly fine! But perhaps let people donate to help fund you with getting some better camera equipment which would help with putting out better content. Not bashing the equipment you got by no means either! You've done great with what you've got. But maybe think about it this way: better equipment to help you do the job more efficiently (maybe a tripod to hold the camera?), and at a higher equality (better camera so your viewers can see more details of what you're working on)

Now the fuel filter isn't getting any fuel to it. I top off the fuel filter, it runs for a couple of minutes, and then bucks and stalls out, fuel filter down to about a quarter. Think it's a bad lift pump?

When using WMO. Do you preheat before in jetting? Or do you mix with gas or diesel? I have 85 f250 6.9 idi. It's my one-day Truck. One-day it will be back on the road 😂☹️ no big cash flow. But I like the idea on WMO and what do you recommend for WMO filtering if no centrifuge is not available 😁
@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
I heat my waste oil before I put it into the centrifuge so it cleans better, and helps evaporate off any moisture. I do not have a heater on my truck, but run 2 tanks one for regular diesel, and one for waste oil. I start uo and shut down on regular diesel. Only switch to waste oil for longer trips, once truck is warmed up. Usually mix about 20% regular unleaded gas into my used oil. Supposed to make it burn better and thin it. I do not add diesel, my used oil mix usually has diesel in it though. I have not experimented with other filtering methods. Basically jumped into waste oil diesel head first and set up a centrifuge. If I was going to do a cheap set up, I would do a series of filters and gravity feed through them. Start with a higher 50 micron rating then to a medium 30 micron then down to a smaller micron like 10 and finally through a 3 micron. Thanks for watching.

@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
All diesels will have a little smoke especially at start up in cold weather. Alot of factors can go into how much it smokes. I would make sure your return lines are not leaking allowing air into the system. The previous owner may have turned up the fuel pump, could be slightly out of time.. Good luck with your project and God bless.

I have a 85 f250 6.9 IDI. If I do mix oil and gas. Like you are suggesting in a two tank system what do I need to do or adjust with IDI? Do I need to adjust the timing do I need to adjust anything with the injection pump??
@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
You do not have to adjust anything, leave the timing where it is at. Make sure you filter the oil really good, or run it through a centrifuge to clean it before you put it in your truck. You start the truck on the tank with normal diesel. Let it warm up and drive the first few miles to get truck up to opperating temperature. Switch tanks to the oil mix. Drive a few miles from your destination, switch back to diesel tank. If you are only stopping at a store or whatnot you can leave it on the oil tank cause engine will still be warm when you restart the truck. You basically only want to run the oil once engine is warmed up.

Do you have any tips on how to get a fuel return cap to stop leaking? I've tried different o rings and caps and she still wants to leak
@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
I usually use Delphi brand return line caps, had good luck with them. Make sure you lubricate your o rings so they slide on easier and you do not tear them when installing. Alot of people swear by the return line kits sold by russrepair.com, but I am not the type guy to spend more on parts than I have to, so never used one of his kits myself. If you really want to spend some $ you can buy billet return rails from r and d idi performance. I have also seen a video from diesel tech Ron, he uses a copper drain plug washer on top of the return cap to tighten it up better here is a link to that video he mentions the washer about 12 minutes in to the video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adyhhsR1vMmnenk.html Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

With the truck running when you push the shrader flvalve on fuel filter housing are you getting a good stream of fuel? Or is it weak? Alot of air and bubbles? Or clean fuel? Depending on those answers, I would try running the truck off a fuel jug. Hook a short hose to the lift pump on the lower passenger front side of engine. Run that hose into a gas can full of diesel. If it runs better, then your issue is between the tank and lift pump. If it runs the same, your problem is after the lift pump. That will start to narrow down the diagnostics. If issue is before, I'd suspect a bad pickup, a clogged line or sticking or plugged tank switch valve. After, probably air intrusion somewhere.

Question. Maybe you could help me out. I’m getting my injection pump replaced, as they are priming it they stopped because the mechanic said the pump picked up algae from the tank (truck has been sitting for 4 years) we are just going to replace the tank with a new tank. But my question is, is my injector pump ruined or is there a saving grace? Is there anything I can do?

Shouldn't cause you any issues. I have ran plenty of old trucks with algae in the diesel. Your filter should have caught any chunks before it even got to the injection pump.

I will give it a test and see. I have always used the diesel kleen cause it is what my dad taught me, also because it is at Walmart and a decent price. I am open to trying other products though! Thanks for watching, God bless.

I used too much diesel kleen in my 7.3 idi now no crank or start any suggestions?
@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
No possible way too much diesel kleen leads to a no crank situation, unless you pulled injectors or glow plugs and filled the cylinders full then reinstalled. No crank is electrical, a starter, the starter solonoid, ignition switch, batteries, battery cables etc.

@Tycheese8 No, if it's not even cranking it has nothing to do with fuel system. It is electrical issue

Someone told me to fill the filter with seafoam and let it clean ? What do you think would be better? My trucks definitely buckin 😂
@worthshop

I have never used sea foam. I can only advocate for what I know, use diesel kleen or atf. Hope it helps you our. Also bucking is usually more of a sign of air intrusion.

Hey I wanted to send you Paypal but I think you have the paypal address wrong on your about page? I didn't want to guess and pay the wrong person for the great info you give. I have a question for you, too: In my '91 7.3 bus the fuel filter light comes on a LOT. I was changing the filter every time until I realized the fuel in it always looked clean. No gunk in the tanks. I've been just ignoring it since then, figuring the sensor itself was the problem, but is there anything else that could be wrong that would make that light go on? Thanks in advance if you get a chance to respond.
@worthshop
@worthshop Жыл бұрын
Dang thank you for pointing that out to me. Think spell check changed up my PayPal link. I got it fixed now. Paypal.me/worthshop is the correct link. Your fuel lift pump could be getting weak causing the filter light to come on. But if you are not having a loss of power when it comes on, I would agree with your thoughts that the sensor itself is going bad. Really appreciate the kind words. God bless.
