At last! After watching several cloth simulation videos in order to model a proper skirt, I get to yours. For now, this "Shrinking Factor" method is the best. Very good the whole series. Thank you very much.

If you add to the cloth object a Solidify Modifier, get a small Thickness (like 0.02 m) and the minimum Offset (-1.0000), the thickness of the cloth grows inwards towards the body, so that it fills up the gap between the body object and the cloth object. It looks satisfactory but one issue is that it still applies to all the cloth Mesh, and not only to that shrinking Vertex Group. Nice tutorial btw.

What is AGPL 3? Does this mean that if I create a character using that add-on, do I have to release the project file of the entire scene, or the software source code if I use the character in an application?

I am using this method to create a dress, so I upscaled the bottom part, but whn I press play after shink the bottom part does not fold, it's as if there was a metal ring in the bottom of the cilinder that prevents it from folding. to exemplify, the bottom part forms an oval shape that looks like an eye, rather than the typical dress folds. what am I doing wrong?

Chris Prenninger I have no idea why but I have noticed this is the case with a lot of physics related functions in Blender. Compared to a lot of other 3D software the calculations are very slow. It’s also true for smoke sims for example. Not really fair to compare to Houdini but when I did tests with a 1950x in both apps the difference is massive.

Realflow 10 makes great use of multi cores compared to blender on threadripper. Realflow must use 80% more of the cpu power. I wonder if this is a python optimisation problem.

Is it possible to set different friction for different parts of the cloth? Some real world clothing may be slippery (= low friction against the skin) but have silicon band (= high friction against the skin) inner lining under the rubber band section. That would prevent slipping down but still get the cloth to slide against the skin during animation movement.

You can tweak the cloth sim settings (especially collision distances and self collision) ... and that can take hours ;)

@@chrisprenn I came up with an easy quick fix by using the smooth modifier and setting it to 30 and that seems to fix it

hi, when playing the animation after completing the steps, the cloth falls through the body and disappears. collision is on for the body and all the settings for cloth and collision are the same. any idea what could be causing this? thanks so much i appreciate it

The shrinking doesn't work for me unless I weight-paint the vertex group. (for my own reference)

At least bake before render. Yes, cloth gets deformed by collision objects like animated characters

⭐If you decided to make cloth simulation, then just go with marvelous designer it's another option do make it! ⭐If you like to work in industrial AAA studios, then you have to go with Maya for modeling animation, Nuke for comositing & vfx, substance painter for creating our own custom texture to our scenes(Model)! ⭐Ane then get some physics simulation add-ons Your good to go, expectations is the End📍

Chris, Sorry aber Dein Akzent ist grauenhaft. Du solltest die Videos besser in Deutsch machen. Und alles geht so schnell bei Dir in diesem Video. Dabei wird kaum mal etwas erklärt. Sorry, aber meine Meinung.
