Hi thank you for this shader, it saves so much time. One question, I do product rendering for 3d printed items, one reason I use this shader is to get one step closer to that photorealism. I would like to ask you, how can I add an ambient occlusion node to this setup. Thank you !

So, some feedback on this that I'm sure you've probably found out by now. More frames = actually worse these days. The pop3 is really good at capturing everything it sees on the first shot, the problem is, it has a habit of hallucinating, especially in feature tracking mode, and you'll often end up with some fractal looking mesh that are effectively unusable.

This is an excellent tutorial video. I learned a lot. Chris P., you are a good teacher. I have learned about Animation Nodes from you and I have made a skeleton play a piano from recorded MIDI notes. There are many things about Blender's geometry Nodes that I do not understand. For example, I watched this video because I want to animate a card dealer. I have used particles systems but this technique can be used for cards emitted from the hand. However, I can't figure out how to make it emit five or more particles or object cards and have them stop when they hit the card table. Applying Chris P's technique, the particles (or object cards) should stop at a certain z value but not be deleted. 🐦

Hi Chris, I created this cap setup using geometry nodes and it's super nice because you can change the cap height, radius, "panel" count, depth, the pieces auto-weld, etc all procedurally. I was just curious if there was a reason you didn't want to do it using geometry nodes?
@chrisprenn
@chrisprenn Ай бұрын
I'm sure that GN setup took some time to put together. Awesome solution if you need to make many different but similar caps. But for just 1 product viz I wouldn't spend the time and just use the good old modifiers.
@SJ98296
@SJ98296 Ай бұрын
@@chrisprenn Hi Chris! So, I did spend a bit of time on both the modifier setup and the geonodes setup, since I wasn't sure how best to make this model efficiently but with some procedural precision as well. If you could easily access a mesh item's dimensions attribute without having to do a work around, then this would be a significantly easier setup. But I was able to create a procedural circle curve that sizes perfectly to the array length so that you always have a perfect termination point. There are two awkward parts to the setup; 1) keeping a reference to the panel width (prior to adding the array modifier) and 2) calculating the delta offsets so that you keep your dimensions intact...and with the delta offsets matching the original dimensions you can drive the radius of the curve circle. Now that I have the setup established I am thinking about making a quick setup script. Let me know if you would be interested in checking it out!

2 more tips for the curve and the array: 19:50 you don't have to rotate anything if the part in the array goes in the wrong direction. Go to the edit mode for the curve, select any vertex of the curve, right click and from the context menu choose "Switch direction". 25:20 To get the "right" amount/width of the arrayed part: activate the addon "Curve Tools" which ships with Blender. In the N-panel under "Edit" you will find the section "Curve info". Click on the button Length and it will show the length of the curve. Don't try to change the length, just click on it and copy the value. Grab your calculator (or let Blender do the math) and divide the length by the amount the part should be repeated. Or the other way around, divide the curve length by the width of the part so you get the current amount. Round the value either up or down, and then use that integer to calculate the new width. I am pretty sure you know the following, but for beginners reading this: deactivate the Curve modifier and the Array modifier as well to set the new width of the part in Object mode, apply the scale and re-activate the Array. If you know the amount and just need the to calculate the new width you can even directly do the math in the field for the width in Blender. If it does not look correct (sometimes the modifiers don't update correctly) in both modifiers delete curve in the field for the object reference, choose it again first for the Array and then for the Curve modifier as well.

Hi there! I am using this video to create a 3D model to print out in Resin. I have gotten the drawing done and it looks perfect from the Z view but I cannot figure out how to make it flat on the X axis view. Nothing online touches on this as the majority of Blender users create animations. Do you know how I can make my Bezier Curve flat from the X axis view as well? Yours stays perfectly flat on the X axis as you work :(

OMG so frustrating watching someone spend hours trying to work out how to do something based on an incorrect understanding of how light works. Dark reflections aren't a thing. Reflections are by nature additive, so a dark area in a reflection is just the absence of reflection, IOW transparent. If you have an object that is emitting a certain amount of light from diffusion or emission then a reflection of a dark object can't physically decrease that base level of light (not talking about shadows, just reflections), only increase it. There is no way a reflection can make something darker. Yeesh, can I have my 36 minutes and eleven seconds back (well just the 14 minutes before I realised what a waste of time this was)?
