Memories! When I was a boy at school in Bath in the mid-50s I would spend hours on the up platform of Bath Spa trainspotting - and the Merchant Venturer was favourite after the Bristolian when it came to "named" trains. But those trees behind didn't exist then. That was where the stopping trains had a line behind the up platform and I used to catch the "local" to Box when a full station existed on the Bath side....a real Great Western station, long gone now.. Thanks for this video.

Green Park was the better one for variety, especially over the S&D. Locos from all of the big four could be seen there. My uncle worked the S&D although from essentially a GW family. Bet you have many great memories.

Rallfreight Driver Gallagher - Thanks for the response. I visited both as a very young trainspotter, but Bath Spa won hands down for the "buzz" of seeing those express trains hauled by the Kings and Castle class locos, and even more memorably for me, a Britannia class behind the headboard. By comparison, Green Park seemed very quiet. I lived at Box at that time and used to catch the "stopping" train home from my school in Bath. Many an evening was spent at Box Station (long gone now) -with no Health and Safety obsessions in those days and a solitary porter on duty stoking up the fire in the waiting room. My excitement grew as the timetable listing showed a London departure due and I still recall the thrill as the down Bristol-bound leviathan thundered by, leaning into the edge of the platform via a slight camber, as if nodding its head to me as it passed, a mind-blowing blur of steam and light. Great days for any young trainspotter.

What a wonderful vid.!! I grew up in Melksham back in the 50's and 60's and I remember going to Bath Spa Station with my Dad and seeing the King's coming in, I think one of them was 'King John' if I recall correctly. Happy days!! It's so good to see these films especially when you're stuck on the M25 or M3 in a traffic jam!! It makes you think what the hell has happened to this country!!
