.... If Limbaugh was still alive he'd still be the biggest radio personality on the air in the realm of talk radio & certainly in the current era of podcasting. Probably even bigger. Steve Croft & all the rest of the 60-Min.s crew always were (& always be) leftist POS. That's CBS.

Rush Limbaugh heard Bo Snerdley (James Golden) on the phone with a creditor one day. Rush didn't have huge fame & fortune yet. He called Bo into his office, told him that he overheard that phone call & asked him how much he needed. Bo told him $5,000 & Rush wrote him a check, a gift, not a loan. He told a speechless Bo that everyone can use a helping hand once in awhile. Rush kept his same employees for 30 years, unheard of in radio. Rush was an extremely generous man, with a great sense of humor, & loved by his 40 million former listeners. We miss him greatly.

I don't mean to contradict your statement that '30 years / unheard of in radio" but oddly enough, another hugely successful radio guy who was apparently / reportedly just the opposite as far as being free with his money goes, and who admired Rush for his talent at least, was apparently notoriously cheap, so say they, kept his staff for just as long. In fact, if not for radio they would have nothing in common, would be nonother than another notorious radio personality : Howard Stern.

I worked as head cosmetician of a Des Moines Walgreens store in the late 90's. I didn't want to miss a show and didn't like having to listen to the music the store played all day. I needed something I could chew on, so to speak. So, I bought a hand held radio to put into the pocket of my smock and wired an ear bud through a hole I had cut into the pocket of the smock, up the back of my shirt, wrapped around my bra, through my hair, and into my ear so that I could listen to Rush every afternoon. Nobody ever caught on. My hair was long and I wore it over my ears so as to hide the listening device. I loved Rush. He said everything that we were thinking. That's why he had such a huge following and such a great impact. He revived AM radio and pioneered the way for others in conservative talk radio. Rush taught me everything I know about economics, conservatism, and achieving the American dream. If there were only one take away from listening to Rush for nearly 3 decades, it would be how he spoke of taking the one thing you are really passionate about and finding a way to make money doing it. Getting up each day and going into the radio station wasn't work to Rush. It was something he really enjoyed. His passion and determination was awe inspiring. Even when he went completely deaf he continued to do talk radio. Mr. Snerdley would tell him when he was talking too loud, Rush being unable to hear his own voice, and the calls were captioned for him, which caused a little delay in his response to callers as he had to read their words off the screen. He never quit. He took a few days off when he got his cochlear implants, something that made his life for the most part normal again. The only thing that wasn't was his love of music. He loved Manheim Steamroller, especially at Christmas time, but music just wasn't the same with the implants. My children grew up listening to Rush... my Rush babies... and they are all conservatives as adults. Two served in the Marine Corps. Rush was an American hero, and his message will live on forever. He will live in our hearts forever.

Well, he was good at what he did for sure...BUT, he controlled his own little world. He did not debate anyone, he rarely did interviews and when he did it’d often be friendly appearances on Fox, he was able to blabber into his mic hour after hour with no one there to challenge anything that he said, his callers would typically be “Dittoheads” and anyone who did challenge them would be cut off and made fun of... Like a casino, the odds were always stacked in his favor and he knew it. There’s a reason he never ran for office himself. He’d have been forced to leave his friendly, controlled bubble.

@@TravelinBand747 Right on! Couldn't have said it better myself. Lots of smashing points there. I never thought of it that way, but yeah. The guy was a coward. He was great at yelling in a microphone, but clearly didn't have enough confidence in what he believed to let on people to challenge him. Like he said, it was really all about the money at the end of the day. That's clearly all he cared about. He couldn't have cared less about making the world a better place. He was an empty suit who just espoused controversial opinions because it was outrageous, thus would give him name recognition, and make him money.

Clay and Buck are kind of his radio "heirs" although no one ever really can be--in fact all of conservative talk radio are his heirs, and just about every single host working in that format owes him a great deal, and the honest ones will admit it. @@nickmariotti4241 Absolutely agree with you. Hannity, Levin, Glenn beck have been very vocal about all that Rush did to pave the way for them. Certainly a different way of going about delivering the message, but they get the job done, and do it well.
