Today we're back with the Superformance guys and their 1963 Grand Sport Corvette featuring a Lingenfelter built LT4 making 750 hp. Intense doesn't quite say it. They even went 7/8 scale as the original 5 Grand Sports were done. This car is incredible so sit back and enjoy the ride!

I saw the originals at Sebring in 1965. I was blown away. However, another Chevy powered car, Jim Hall's Chaparral stunk up the show embarrassing the GS & the Cobras. Cobra Daytona Coupe finished forth and the Corvette Grand Sport finished 14th. The shark nose of the Corvette lifted the front end unlike many of the other cars. When my Explorer Scout troop entered downtown Sebring in the morning after an all night bus ride, race cars were driving from the track into town for tech inspection! We were completely freaked out. Amazing experience.

I used to envision doing what these guys are doing years ago. The best of both worlds and they don't have to be garage kept. I absolutely love the Grand Sport since the first time I've seen a pic of 1 on a calendar. I really envy you brother.

Matthew Mazzella I didn’t drive it hard enough to really know but it felt planted. Some of the suspension leans towards old technology so I’d love to really hammer on it to see how it holds

I think I saw my first in the 70's at a car show....knew it was something special the moment I laid eyes on it......funny, 50 years later and now I know why it looked "different" I never knew the 7/8 scale......that's probably why it "works".

@@65coupestang the GS Corvette originally was 7/8ths the size of a Corvette that year. This was so it was lighter and faster. So having 750hp in a smaller than regulation-size Corvette is amazing! Superformance has used the original blueprints to make these continuation cars, so it is also 7/8ths the size of a normal Corvette!

I like the 7/8 scale, that really makes the car special. The 1960s steering and suspension will be a little disappointing, but you can't sacrifice to much historical accuracy and hope to have GMs approval.

One of the things I learned over the years is: there's such a thing as TOO much power. There's a point where you don't actually get that much improvement in performance by simply adding more HP and Torque. You have to be able to apply that force effectively to the ground to get the vehicle moving. At 2700 lbs, you'd need massive tires to get any grip and that would destroy handling. Engineering Explained has a few videos on the subject. I was reading an article in a corvette magazine about a guy who built a '66 (i think) and since he wanted it to appear stock, he had the original pizza cutter tires on it. It had 1200 hp. I could beat it with a moped because he could never apply the hp effectively, he'd just break loose the tires any time he got into it. Not to mention he'd have to slow down to a crawl to go around corners otherwise he'd peel the tires off the rims. Completely useless in the real world.

Just an amazing car. Looks equally amazing in any color. Although I'm partially to the Chevy blue on this car. Red looks crazy but the blue fits the car better IMHO. Second choice would be black. But the sound...Oh my god the sound. Sounds like it'll eat anything in its path. Beautiful car.

How is stability nearing VNE through corners? How would it rank at Laguna Seca or Sears Point? How is its low-speed directional stability through twisties? Aerodynamics -- at what speed does it generate too much lift for stability?

We do our best but can’t always get underneath very well. We always show inside, under the hood and driving but underside shots without a lift are difficult
