I was rebuilding a set of door hinges for an early production 67 Mustang and I was using a kit from CJ pony parts. I discovered something that needs to be shared.

Thx for this Barry! ...your video is a good reminder to keep my eyes open before assuming the aftermarket gets it right.

CJPony Parts has two door hinge repair kits. HW899 as shown in the video and a more expensive Scott Drake version (HW905). At least from the picture on CJ's web site, it looks like the Scott Drake version might be a better solution since it appears to have much shorter splines.

That's an eye opener for the difference between the two hinges for the same year good info thumbs up.

Good information Barry. I had the same problem but I put the pin in the drill press and used a file to take the grooves out. Either way works well, thanks.

Good info. I would recommend that a person upgrades from a lower 67 hinge to a 68 up hinge and install the mustangsteve.com kit that makes the pin grease-able.

My Winton Vise has aluminum Jaws that I made. Took the same thickness of bar stock as the steel ones, match drilled them. Put the steel ones in my top drawer to save. Less marring of new steel parts was the reason as well as I do alot of aluminum work.

Great video! Wow, didn't realize those pins were going to be such a head scratcher. I'm glad I had a pro rebuilding them. Thanks Barry - I'll think of you every time I open and close my door!

I would have mounted the pin in my drill press and used a file. More control. Great video!

My ´67 coupe came off the assembly line December 20th, 1966, so it´s considered an early build. The late builds were built after February, 1967, if I remember correctly. I have the older style door hinges and I was able to use a kit meant for the ´65 to ´67.

Put the bolt in a hand drill and use your sanding wheel or a fine grinder to remove the excess spline material if you don't have a lathe.

At some point I need to replace the springs on my hinges. They seem to have disappeared at some point.

Seems the newer stuff may be china made. Compared to OEM looks a lot beefier👍🏼

amazing they can't even make a hinge pin to spec.Quick pass on the lathe is all that would be needed.

That, or maybe chuck it in a drill and sand it down. A poor man’s lathe.

I am sure we could manufacture a better product in the USA, everything requires fiddling to get it to fit.
