1987 Toyota Pickup 4x4 Truck Walk Around - Major Frame Rust!

3 жыл бұрынI bought this 1987 4wd Toyota Pickup Truck for only $475! Unfortunately, the frame is so rusty that it is held together with a clamp. It will make a good parts truck for other projects, but it's not safe to be on the road.

I am glad my 13 Tacoma didn't turn out that way. My Taco was near rust free. My 2 week old Tundra still is rust free. I plan on having it drowned with KROWN RUST protection. That 22R engine is one real good one. My 86 Celica had the 20R

I need them mud flaps for my truck though lol. I body swapped my 88 2wd frame on to a 84 4x4 frame, but lost the front 4wd mud flaps some where haha

Oh to be young again. This video takes me back to the 1988 Toyota 4x4 pickup I bought new. I loved that truck. But like Ohio, the Missouri winters took it to an early grave.

That frame will give me nightmares. Im one of the lucky ones to get an 86 sr5 4x4 with 0 to minimal surface discoloration. Im taking air blaster to the frame from front to back and taking DuPont spray that kills rust and turns it into a paintable surface. Btw sir if you know anyone who has an 86 3rd brake light assembly shoot them my way im in urgent need of one!!! The previous owner put a camper on the back and deleted 3rd brake light from the truck so there is jst a hole left.

You may want to find out the manufacturer of the camper shell and check their website for the brake light. Or even eBay for a good used one maybe.

@@joethecollector Do you mean the clear cargo light above the back window? My 85 xtra cab doesn't have a 3rd brakelight, maybe they started on 86 xtra cabs?

I'm selling my 87 2wd auto 22r yota right now. Asking $4500 for it only 170k miles. Very very minor rust. It runs and drives. Just needs a new exhaust, center link bar, and the windshield needs to be resealed.

If you are willing to see the driver side visor, I'd would happily buy it off you! Mine sat for a while with a sunscreen that wasn't quite tall enough and discolored the clear plastic

I'm going to keep them as a pair. It seems like the driver side is the one that is always worn/damaged.

The height difference is most likely in the suspension not the frame

sheesh yall got it rough out east with the rust! i guess the tradeoff is you don't have to pay west coast premium prices. i think you made a good buy, could pull 500 bucks of parts off that truck pretty easy

@@6thGearGarage This may just be rubbing salt in the wound, but my always Oregon 1989 still has the black paint on most of the frame. And of course these old Toyota are everywhere out here.

@@6thGearGarage No salt out west. We use volcanic cinder instead. Some places they also spray a liquid that lowers the freezing temperature of water, but it's not salt based. Trucks still rust on the actual coast due to salt spray.

I did, i think the fuel leaked or evaporated from sitting. More gas in the tank did the trick.

Just picked up a 91’ DLX standard cab, southern truck with no rust. Needs a paint job from 300K in the sun, but otherwise great mechanical condition. The truck is now up in New England. I’ll have the truck painted, the bed spray lined, and the underside fluid film under coated before the winter. Any other watch out areas I should address prior to this winter? Thanks experts.

Nice find! I'd also ket the spray kit with the long tube to spray inside of the frame. Also spray inside the doors and rocker panels, inside the plastic fender liners, the front radiator support, under the front of the hood, take out the bed panels and spray behind them, and inside of the tailgate. Id go as far as removing the bed for winter and throwing on a flat bed because no matter how hard you try to prevent it, these beds just find ways to rust, especially with salty winters. Trying to fond a rust free OEM bed is impossible around here.

6th Gear Garage Thank for the reply, love the channel! What spray kit are you talking about? Fluid film? I was going to take it to a shop to have it done since it’s so messy, so perhaps I’ll do that but then do some additional deep spraying on my own.
