This whole line is so strange from him. Didn’t he say during the poetry episode that he never wanted to stop being able to talk as friends when they broke up? Also that he wanted to be “good friends?” Why did he have this major change of heart that if they can’t be together then they can’t even be friends? Angela stayed his friend when they were broken up even though she was inwardly hurting. He’s being a jerk by saying this to her.

You obviously didn’t pay attention last season.😒😒 Buddy was writing poetry about her right after “they decided” to breakup, and was telling Topanga he still loved her not even 2 months afterwards. (You can see this in the episode were she slaps him over nothing after Corey read his poetry) This was also before her “upgrade” as well. Way to make him seem so fickle. Also try to tone down your sexism. If women are allowed to be confused, indecisive, and scared of life; then so should men.

If you think legally being an adult makes a person a mature adult, you're kidding yourself. A LOT of kids in college go crazy, make mistakes, are still figuring themselves out because they JUST became independent and are still nowhere near acting like an adult because they have yet to have enough life experience living and surviving on their own. You're expecting her to act with the age and wisdom of a 40 year old, but Topanga having moments like these emphasizes how she doesn't actually know everything, contrary to the trope of her character and that makes her all the more realistic and relatable.

Danielle the actress who plays Topanga, said that she gained weight (“got thick”) because she was stressed out about homework and stuff.

I give Angela waayyy more credit than Topanga for her feelings in this situation. Angela's feelings and fears about hurting Shawn are valid and deep rooted considering what we later learn about her mom. Her and Shawn are extremely similar in how their childhoods and their mothers affected their adult romantic relationships. Topanga on the other hand was just being flighty lol

Ik people who absorb people arguments

Angela had every reason in the world to be guarded in this situation with Shawn. When they first get together they had a two week rule where they both agree to “breakup” which clearly documents both of their abandonment issues based on their home life. Then Shawn switches the script and decides he loves her after finding her purse . This catches Angela off guard at first, however both take a leap of faith in getting into a relationship knowing they could both get hurt if it went wrong. Well season 6 comes and Shawn breaks up with Angela to meet new people. She understandably hurt, let’s him go and tries to move on even though they still love one another. Shawn confirms even after they kissed at Christmas he still doesn’t feel ready and Angela (again) decides it’s time to let go for good, which NEWSFLASH is the right choice here because Shawn is clearly struggling and needs to figure out what he wants! Later in the season he reveals (Honesty episode) he still loves her pulling her back in to his indecisive ways. Which brings us to Season 7. I don’t agree with the reasoning the writers wrote for why Angela is scared to get into a relationship with Shawn on Season 7. Shawn’s indecisiveness and own abandonment issues caused him to break things off with Angela, which left her feeling hurt and abandoned. Her saying she doesn’t want to “hurt” him is unjustly putting the blame on her. The writers could’ve had Angela remind Shawn of their history and make THAT the reason why she was scared. Have Shawn give her a reason why this time will be different and tell her what made him realize his change of heart? Without any of that him wanting her back feels hollow and underdeveloped as a story arc and villianizes her. I think the writers knew they were going to break them up for good and built up the “I’m afraid I’ll leave you” reason for the end of the show to blame Angela in the end for the breakup and making it look like she left him and broke his heart.

with angela, it more so stirred up unresolved issues from her childhood that she hasn’t fully worked through (witnessing shawn’s father die and how it affected him likely didn’t help this either, but she still tried to be there for him). plus, let’s be fair, she had every reason to be cautious of jumping back into a relationship with shawn at this point

I agree, it’s bizarre that Topanga wanted to break up because of her parents. But it’s also weird how Corey didn’t see her once all summer, and also didn’t even ask if she was okay (just assumed she was). Shawn was actually the one to say he was sorry. Seems like he (Corey)was being a little insensitive himself.

Topanga Canyon was a hippie commune in California from the 60s to 70s. Back before this show has solidified itself and before it had rewritten all the side characters back stories (for example, both Shawn and Topanga have sisters that were only mentioned or seen once and then never again) Topanga's parents were hippies which is why she was so "weird" as a child
