My friends and I did figure out Psycho Mantis by our selves, but it was sheer accident. We also played Tekken together, so we had the other controller plugged in and someone picked up the wrong one. Suddenly it was "why can't I read your mind!?", but it wasn't until getting stuck again on the next play-through that we worked out what had happened. Mind blown.

The huge electrified wheel on the last level on little big planet. I was stuck on that for months 😤🙊

The Water Slum ambush in Jak II. I think it took me 2 years to beat that mission for the first time.

The flooding level in Blackwater City in Ratchet and Clank. Was stuck on that for literally six months. Grinder enough bolts to get the RYNO in the meantime though. So that was a fun playthrough afterward.

The Water dungeons of the Legend of Zelda series have a knack for being particularly devious, the most infamous being the one in Ocarina of Time. It really isn't that hard once you know what to do to navigate it though.

Yep, Driver nearly put me off of the whole game from the start.

Maybe it's not as hard as I remember. But that bit in Jak 2 with enemies air dropping onto the pier is the greatest single act of perseverance I was ever able to muster.

The high road from Crash was brutal! I almost stopped playing the game because of it.

Watching Rosie twitch at the end just gave me a laugh. What a good sport she is. The comedy of the situation is only magnified by my sympathy. I hated that mission.

That was EXACTLY my response to Big Smoke "ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SHOOT!!"

The first time I got 'stuck' is still the most iconic in my mind. Megaman Legends, my favorite game of all time. You reach a point when trying to get to the second dungeon you have to go by boat and it's one of only two stationary sections in the entire game. In a game that teaches you to dodge and move you're suddenly turned into a turret and tasked with keeping submersibles from sinking your ship. Of course once you get through the grueling assault by multiple tiny ships the boss shows up with its hugely damaging attacks and sizeable health bar. I must have spent weeks slamming my head into that sudden difficulty wall, as a kid I simply had no idea how to make it to the boss and not have my ship smoking and on its last leg. Even now replaying that game on the regular and knowing everything about it I still have that moment of apprehension before starting that mission.

I'm glad we can look things up now days with games we get stuck on totally agree with you,also that Big Smoke mission was annoying for me also XD

The first time I played through Final Fantasy 7 was in 1998 when i was 8 years old. I don't recall having trouble with the temple itself, but holy heck do i have some bad experience with the Demon Gate boss. Rob is not kidding on that one. Even now i don't look forward to that boss.

Hey I have one for this! I figured out the Spyro bit! It took me like 20 minutes to even see how to do and then about as long to actually do it but I did it and I’ve rarely felt so accomplished in a game.

Getting the gold relic in the Highroad literally took me an entire day of playing that one level over and over and over and over and OVER! As for places I got stuck I have to go with Final Fantasy X and Seymore Flux atop Mt Gagazet, you have no idea just how many times I heard "Pitiful mortal, your life ends here. And your meaningless existence with it."

Oh yes, the goat..and oh yes, the Driver Tutorial 😁 ..got stuck for ages.. but at San Andreas, I struggled more with the "Learning to fly" mission..

I've just played through FFVII again and I cannot figure out how I managed to complete it the first time around twenty odd years ago without a guide! My teenage brain must've been incredible.

My friend and I figured out Psycho Mantis... I had been watching him play through most of MGS and also perplexed about how to beat Mantis. After a few tries, i remember just picking up the 2nd controller and when we realized both realized it - it was awesome. I handed it over to him and kept the story going after he beat. Felt great to contribute and like a team win. Such an incredible experience and really solidified how innovative metal gear was!

well back in the day of ps1 and one of the best ffs ever, i got stuck on the "find the white seed ship" for 30 hours or so. got my levels and geart to good, but still didint just know when to turn the camera angle on the right dirrection. but after 30h or more got lucky :) ou yeah sorry and we are ofcourse talking about final fantasy VIII

Broken Sword brings back memories, memories of the monkey islands games pre-playstation. After solving (by solving, i mean hunting down a walkthrough) some of those puzzles, the Goat puzzle seems rather simple.

That San Andreas mission was hard as balls when I first played it years ago. I like 22 or 23. I'm 37 and I played it again recently, took me 2 tries mostly because I took the stairs near the beginning of the mission. Now, the Red Baron missions are the stuff of nightmares.

That SODDING Irish goat!!!!!!!!!! I was stumped on that for over a month, eventually found a players guide printed in a free book that came with a PlayStation magazine, HALLELUJAH! To this day, Broken Sword remains my favourite ever game. Long live George & Nico 😊

The dog at the gate of the docks from broken sword 2 the smoking mirror comes to mind. Couldn’t even complete the demo disc for ages before renting the full game. After this part, even the endgame was simple. The earlier ones didn’t have the cog pointer when you hovered over stuff so it added a bit of difficulty. Also final fantasy 7. Getting ejected into the desert from the golden saucer comes to mind many extra saves, endless linked screens, and powerful giant sand worms. From memory you had to do the screens in a certain order to escape. Such a great game. So exited for the remake.

Spyro. That crystal mini game where you have to beat Hunter and prevent him from getting more crystals than you. I screamed blue murder over that one! And also, to a lesser extent, the ice hockey mini game

Shadow of the Colossus - climbing around the 16th (& final) Colossi's wrist very awkwardly whilst losing grip before bow & arrow shooting a target with very little time between the wrist flipping over completely again which causes you to lose grip dangling, leading to dropping or losing balance shooting or missing the following jump-falling to do all the climb up again, and again.

I wonder if this will include ornstein and smuff, smoo, Smawg, Smough.

I never got past the train mission in San Andreas, and I still hear Big Smoke saying his damn annoying line in my nightmares.

This goat almost changed that game into Broken Controller for me. I spent days before solving the puzzle. There is actually another goat in Broken Sword 5. Way easier though.

i once tried to collect all of petruccio's feathers in AC2 which meant spending hours poring over message boards and in-game maps trying to pinpoint exactly where in the world they were. AND YES DRIVER! i tried that as a kid and that's it.

I killed Mantis on my first playthrough without even realizing you can switch controllers. If you don't, every 20th or so hit of yours will land and do pityful damage. I beat him abusing that. It took me about 2 hours, but I did it, and I genuinely thought that was the intended way.

i'm one of those that the tutorial is the only part of Driver i've ever known

I knew the goat puzzle would be mentioned. I never had trouble with that puzzle. The GBA version had a game breaking glitch where if you went to one place before the other you would lock yourself out of continuing, requiring you to start a brand new file.

I'm proud to say that the Driver tutorial never took me long, I used pen and paper and worked out my optimum route to get everything done. I do have so many notes on games though lol I could fill a folder with them XD

The carnival level on sonic the hedgehog 3 always had me stuck.
