I remember when Glock first came out, it was pretty much ridiculed by mainstream gun owners as “that Tupperware gun” “nobody is taking my Colt .45 away and giving me a plastic gun” But street gangs and police loved it because it was super cheap and lightweight. And held A LOT of ammo for the time.

Last year we has a run on car thefts by teens looking for guns in cars. They knew fire and city employees could not bring their guns into a building and put them in their lockers...so they were hitting their cars while they were working. What is also funny, the story about the ATF tracing many Beretta92 used in crimes disappeared. Their serial numbers indicated they were supposed to be in inventory at the Ft. Bragg Armory.

I have sold a lot of guns over the years and a while back. The ATF contacted me and said that four of the guns that I had sold had been used in crimes they were all 22 caliber. So I guess that’s because it’s cheap lightweight. Easy to carry, but anyway, I had all the proper paperwork for my sales, and they left me alone.

50% of "Traced" guns used in crimes were stolen. So these would be the most common pistols in general circulation regardless of price. 50% of "Traced" guns are not stolen. These would likely be guns used in crimes of passion or anger by their legal owner. So same as above. No one is going to go out and buy a Highpoint under their own name to do a crime because it's cheap.

@@chris____3096 On Glocks there's a serial number on the frame, barrel, and slide, but the frame is the only regulated part that actually needs a serial number and a background check to buy from anyone but a private seller. Anyone can have a slide assembly shipped to their door without a background check, not the case with a frame.
@Satchmoeddie
@Satchmoeddie 3 ай бұрын
@@chris____3096 The frame is chained to the seat mount & left in the vehicle, not the slide. The frame is the receiver, and legally it's considered the gun itself. Don’t surprise me at all. The most popular handguns being the most popular guns used in crime. Criminals also want their guns to work and they tend to have the money to pay for them. Also one factual inaccuracy here he stated most guns used in crimes are stolen but actually the largest category is straw sales, theft being a close 2nd.

As far as guns getting stolen out of vehicles, I know we all like out gun stickers in our windows and bumper stickers, buuuut that just screams HEY!!! There’s a real good chance there’s a gun in here. Also is you have all your stickers and you get into some road rage… the other guy calls 911 and says this guy just pointed a gun at me. Cop pulls you over and asks if you have a gun. Well… what do you think happens. Chances are you have a gun. Prove you didn’t pull it. You’re screwed.

A firearm is not traced to a crime. A firearm is traced from a crime to an FFL with the NICS system. In my opion a trace is a way that the three letter agency's try and make law abiding citizens the guilty party. A suspects finger print on said firearm and other forensic evidence convict them of a crime. The ability to trace a firearm only puts the lawful citizen on a list to later be used foe confiscation. Registration leds to confiscation.

Most guns on the street aren't stolen out of somebody's vehicle or house. Late 80s and early 90s guys from NY/NJ/PA would just head down to Virginia (closest state you could do it) and have non felons buy up a bunch of guns, file down the SN and bring them up north. Out west there was the Larson firearm scandal where employees were taking and selling trunks full of new guns right from the factory and selling them on the street. Then there were ghost gun, the black market knock offs and where did they steal the "switches" that nearly every street kid has access to today? Point is there aren't enough guns to be stolen to account for the sheer number of guns in these streets . If you think MOST guns on the street come from car/home burglaries I have ocean front property in Nebraska to sell you

This was a very interesting topic and you handled the issues concerning firearms in this subject really well. I want to note something I noticed in the footage at 6:45 of that car break-in. The thief has a long object in his hand and it looks like he "shims" the door lock, as in sliding it between the glass and the door pull the lock up, rather than the owner having left the car unlocked. The other point I want to mention is I think the association between cheap guns and crime is simply that in the criminal world guns are disposable. The longer you keep the same firearm the "hotter" it gets, and at some point you need to dump it. So if they're buying they buy cheap so it's not a big loss when they inevitably dump it, and as far as stolen guns, I suspect people are 1. keener to secure their fancier pricier firearms, and 2. people who can only afford low-cost firearms may unfortunately not be able to afford much security for that firearm.

I can’t imagine any burglar of domiciles and automobiles leaving any unsecured firearm. I recall the most popular gang weapon in San Diego, maybe even SoCal back in the 90s when semi auto Centerfire bans were getting all the attention was the Marlin tube fed .22. #10 on the list was The Club. Safes and travel lock boxes tethered to vehicles may actually slow them or maybe even prevent thefts. For what it’s worth, I don’t subscribe to the concept of “truck gun” anymore due to the potential of theft. Even in the country, unattended, unsecured firearms are not safe thanks to meth.

Bottom line, criminals will hurt people, if they don't have guns they'll use a knife, a machete, a car, a hammer, a blunt object or some part of their body. I've lived all over the world and when I'm not in the US I have to behave completely differently because I'm a sitting duck feeling totally defenseless. Crime is a numbers, wrong word, but game. The more guns from any manufacturer that are in the flow of humanity the more bad things are going to happen. Keep in mind that the Soviet AK47 is by far and away the most murderous and violent firearm in the entire history of the world. I like AKs mostly because of being GenX and the Swayze, Sheen Red Dawn. AKs are in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, SE Asia, China, name it, there are so many AKs in the world and they will shoot even if you leave them in the rain for a couple of years. Here's the problem, though, you can't really be an AK guy unless you own a machine shop or know someone who does. Plus, given the state of technology, you have to essentially duct tape an optic on them to get them up with the times. I love Rob and the AK Operators' Union and Herrera but I can get a PA awesome optic for under 500 bucks and have no real ability to use it on my AKs without sacrificing something about the AK that makes an AK cool. I know the Soviets were broke but they literally did zero innovation on their platform since 1974.

Good list. When u said Glock and Rap u should also have mentioned movies & video games. Every major movie has guns as a focal point, and video games with guns are more influential than Rap music. Rap may have brought attention to Glock but moves and Hollywood are also are in the mix

I think we are missing the point here some times. It’s not really the gun, but the owner and the thief. The best full size gun safe that you can fit your Barrett into cost less than $1000! You and I probably have over $30,000 invested in firearmsalone and another 30 K invested in ammunition. The first thing I bought when I decided to have my firearms at home was the most unbreakable safe ever built! A word to the wise should be sufficient.

My guess is Ruger Mark series or some other .22 LR. Back in the day there was this concept of the “Saturday Night Special” crime gun - basically any cheap revolver - but they don’t really make that type of gun any more.

supposedly the Glocks would not set off some metal detectors in the 80s because they had a lot less steel/aluminum than most other handguns and the metal detectors used then were not very good(remember they didn't really use them at all for security purposes until the mid-70s).

@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive You are correct but they supposedly would not set off some 80s metal detectors because they have a lot less steel and aluminum than most other handguns of the era due to the polymer frame, as I said in my original comment. Not sure if it was true or not but I believe there was one known instance of one getting by airport security, but may not have been related to the polymer frame. Remember airport security was way more lax before 9/11.

@@redtra236 Not accounting for the Glock’s manufacturing, no way a mag full of ammo doesn’t set off even the weakest metal detector.
@redtra236
@redtra236 3 ай бұрын
@@slypperyfox On outdated ones from the 80s maybe maybe not, but the mag might also not be fully loaded. The gun may have been unloaded for all I know. The whole thing might be BS too but there were claims it sometimes would get by them back then. Remember as I said security was pretty lax before 9/11 they probably didn't want change and small pocket knives setting off the detectors so the sensitivity was probably low.

As a 20+ year police officer, I agree with absolutely everything you said about not leaving guns in cars. In my time is a patrol officer, I took the stolen reports, and during my time as a homicide detective I worked the homicides where people were killed with guns stolen from cars.

Vehicles are the #1 source of stolen guns in our city, especially handguns. Most of the time the vehicle is unlocked, which is why our stolen vehicle numbers are much higher than they should be. Also, along with the previous is garage door openers in vehicles. Your window gets bashed, they open the garage and its a stealing free for all.

If most guns used in crimes are stolen And most stolen guns get stolen from cars I suppose we have to ask why are so many left in cars? I would argue with concealed permits being impossible to get on places like California and New York as well as gun free zones popping up like daisies forces people to gamble a felony or gamble losing a gun Personally I'd rather have my gun on me than in my car I feel like a car is a terrible place for a gun to be unattended
