Almost seems like this proves you don't need a case at all, except to organize your cards.

Having your cards float can be a nice feature when shooting from a boat or similar. 🤔

I was about to me a similar comment.

To stop splitting your cards, put them in with the contacts away from the grab notch. The way you did, but upside down.

I can see use cases for both. But I'm wondering if you could place the yellow one you preferred inside the pelican and still close it? That would give you the best of both. Use the yellow one for general use, then place it in the Pelican when working in, or near the water as it would float.

Having multiple colors seems useful, though what I personally do is I just flip the card over if it's full so I don't mix them up.

This is awesome Dave. EVERYTHING you went over on the Pelican I've had problems with. I'll be ordering 4 of these. Also, if they have it (couldn't find it), a CF card holder like this would be awesome. If they do, please drop a link too. Thanks! Love this thing and the colors! :)

p.s. I checked B&H and they also make Micro SD card holders. Nice.

Thanks Dave. Sometimes it's the little things.... I had the pelican (its probably still around somewhere) and noticed splitting cards way back and stopped using it. I prefer the card wallet type holders as they hold more cards. Face out cards are available and face in cards are exposed.

Only thing would have been interesting to see if the card would be working if you drove over it without any case :)
@DaveDugdaleColorado5 жыл бұрын
My bet is that it would still work.

@@DaveDugdaleColorado It will, the card by itself is: 1. water proof 2. bump proof 3. pressure proof 4. x-ray proof Not sure if it will float. But case depends on where you go: 1. Boat, Pelican as it floats. 2. Airplane, same as #1 3. Pool, same as #2 :-) 4. Anywhere else credit card sized holder will suffice. But his test on water was reckless, wetting a splitted card is NOT a good idea, and even worst putting it inside the camera. Simply Dumb.

I had the older Pelican card holder and the inside was a rubber insert for the cards instead of form. There was flaw in the mold inserts that over time would loosen the SD lock pin and in a short time they would pop out. My camera would then not write to card anymore. It did this to a number cards before I figured it out and quickly retired it.

Interesting and funny video! The Pelican shouldn't even be sold at all just for the splitting thing...

Thanks Curtis! However it seems like a lot of people don't like this one, I have around a 30% thumb down ratio right now for this one.

I can't tell you how many SD cards I've had to super glue back together because they split open.

Interesting review. I’ve been using the Pelican case for years and never experienced the splitting card problem you demonstrate though. An advantage the Peli has is that it’s got a little hole you can attach a cord through- overkill for most uses but very reassuring if you use your camera hanging over a drop or the sea etc.

also don't use the sd card right away if it gets wet.. the water that managed to get inside the plastic shell could easily short the contacts from inside potentially damaging the card or camera. wait for it to dry for couple of hours.. chances are very low but better safe than sorry :) .. and that holder can wear off the tightness over the time making it less secure

Thanks Dave! The slim form factor is great for travelling light. Does the little hole in the center part go all the way through? I'm wondering if there's a way to attach a little safety strap of some kind to anchor it to my bag. Here's another way to test the Pelican case for water.... Fill the case with water, close, dry the outside, then shake shake shake. Does any water come out?

I would be curious to know if the Pelican Case leaked water AFTER it had been run over. Could running over it with the vehicle have compromised it's shape a little bit?

Why don't they make these in green and red? Those colors would be useful.

That there is DiMedium MicroSD Card Holder, which is CREDIT CARD sized, thin, and can hold a whopping 8 MicroSD cards. That is close to 4 Terabytes in a Credit Card sized holder. You're welcome !!!
