Yes 777-9311 is indeed unbelievable funky and the greatest funk groove I'd ever heard when I first heard it! No surprise it was written by the one & only Prince, the greatest musician that ever lived. Anyway, thanks for this great funky video reaction! Worth mentioning is the American Funk band SLAVE, check them out, songs like "Stone Jam" and "Slide" are timeless Classics in the Funk department!

This song ensorcelled me the first time I heard it, it's one of my favorite songs. I was disappointed a demo wasn't included on the Prince "Originals" project. There was a ridiculous amount of talent in Minneapolis during this period.
@bo_music1484 Жыл бұрын
It probably wasn’t there because the Prince original WAS The Time’s original. He didn’t just write the song, he performed everything on that recording except Morris Day’s vocals.

There is a video of a drummer covering the drums and and hi hat. He was close to Prince at one time. he speaks about 777-9311, using the drum machine. The studio version and the live version. If i remember, jimmy jam or terry lewis played the drums in the studio version. There were 2 versions of the hi hat. The drummer at the time had to learn the play the drum machine version for live concerts. Very interesting, check it out.

Guitar part in 777-9311 is easy to play but you have to have stamina to keep it tight for the whole cut. All due respect to the Time, but going back to the roots and the blue print of OLDSKOOLFUNK, I got to roll with Sly Stone, James Brown, and PFunk...and even the Shakey Ground Temptations. These groups were all laying down classic grooves, waaaaay before MD and the Time and set the standard for the entire genre...in my opinion. 🤘🏾🤩

I'm a diehard Prince fan, but I have to agree. Despite everything that came after, save for maybe Pfunk, James Brown and Sly remain the funkiest. Poet, Luv N Haight, In Time, Thank You for Talkin To Me.... so far ahead of their time no one ever caught up. JBs Doing it to Death, You Can Have Watergate, I Can't Stand It, Mother Popcorn, Hot Pants Road.... the drummers are just too funky. It's TOO funky. Although Prince does have some genius moments where he approaches that level.
