It’s so crazy how good the 7prc handles the shorter barrels. Most cartridges lose 75ft/s per inch

Efficiency.
@rosshill25655 ай бұрын
6.5 PRC does that, too. My 20-inch shoot 142 ABLR at 2944 and 143 ELDX at 2925 with reloads. Factory 143 ELDX called for 2960 from 26 inch barrel. Even Factory loads shoot 2854 for ELDX out of my 20 in. So I lost about 100 fps from 26 inches to 20 inches on Factory loads and about match Factory loads velocities with reloads.

I’d like to see the velocity of the 7prc with an 18” barrel. Shouldn’t be a lot different than a 20”.

Laughing at 308 180 grain to the 300 WM 180 grain comparison. You should do a video comparing the 2 out of a 20 inch barrel. Ammo recommendations for the test, Buffalo Bore, Norma and Nosler.

I'm curious what the actual chrono results were from a 24" vs. 20" barrel and which chrono you used.
@blakebarber82904 ай бұрын
Is this really news to people? There's been a lot of studies in 300 win mag and there's a reason that there's a lot of 24" or 22" tactical barrels. You're wrong on a 308 at 22" being the same as win mag as well.

Hand loads. Different powders for different barrels. Powder and projectile selection makes the most of a given barrel length.

7 PRC is a Magnum cartridge, yet it's quite challenging to find a factory rifle with a barrel longer than 24in I actually hope Hornady is pushing the shorter barrels, The cartridge it's not getting to the advertised velocity's and why they are gimping this cartridge indont know

I believe what you’re looking for is energy… the 24” @ 1000 yards has 1369 lb of energy… The 20” has 1257 lbs of energy… (both figured with a 175 eldx) that’s 122 lbs difference… both would kill a whitetail at that range but neither carry enough recommended energy for elk… so knocking 4” off a 7prc is a lot different than knocking 6” off a 300 wm…
@theoldstyleoutdoors93517 ай бұрын
Yes sir..I understood exactly what I was talking about and as you say pertaining to energy spent. Just stating the fact that many merely cut the barrels off simply trying to "keep up with the Jones's" not understanding what they are losing..or after doing so can't understand why they've lost so much performance.
@cahilroberts41696 ай бұрын
You still get improved balistics and muzzle velocity with a 20 inch 300 wm over a .308. Plus you can shoot heavier bullets. Yes you lose performance, but its not exactly a hard recoil .308. There still is performance gains, however you are burning a lot of powder and barrel life.

@theoldstyleoutdoors93516 ай бұрын
I've set up all 3 of the Carbon models now...only fired factory ammo as of now. None of the 3 would group Hornadys 175 ELDX within 2" . However all 3 shot less than sub with the Hornadys 180 ELDM .

I’ll take the velocity loss….. that’s not bad. I actually had the same rifle being built by fierce 20” barrel ct rival I cancelled the order and went with Bergara. I may change to 20” barrel.

What factors made you switch to the Bergara? I'm leaning toward a Fierce CT Rogue, but i haven't made up my mind yet.

@@Johnbobon honestly they kept pulling my chain said it was a 4month wait time from fierce which I was fine with. After the 4months they pushed it two more months after that two more which was going to be December so past my hunting season which I really wanted that rifle for a hunt I had last year. so I cancelled cuz by that time a lot more manufacturers were producing rifles in 7prc. I looked a lot almost all off the shelf rifles. I really just wanted a simple mountain gun and always shot Remington 700 stocks well and it checked all the boxes I did out a adjustable cheek comb on the which I recommend with the factory stock. Plus I have a Bergara b14 hmr carbon. And it shoots lights out so I knew they had good barrels. After sighting it in I found my action screws were 10lbs under torque my best group was .75 with federal eldx. I shot almost all the factory ammo available minus the nosler. After tightening the action screws I shot a .36 group two back to back. Hard to beat for the price. Also been looking into cva cascade rifles they seem very decent as well for the price. I might pick one of those up next and try it.

@@xfighter1117 Appreciate the feedback. I see some negative reviews about Fierce quality control and customer service, along with lots of rave reviews. It's hard to wade through the muck to find the truth in it all. Whatever choice I make, seems like there's going to be some risk. As they say, "your mileage may vary."
@xfighter1117Ай бұрын
@@Johnbobon ya I heard the same. Everytime I called they answered and helped me and they made it right with my deposit so I can’t say anything bad on the customer service.
