"It doesn't go away with familiarity" that one is the hardest for me. It is horrible to feel like you are about to meet someone for the first time everytime you meet with a friend that you have known for years. It never goes away. I have lived with 2 friends for years and I would still get anxiety whenever I would leave my room. Sometimes to the point where I would need to go to the bathroom and hold it in until they would leave. And these are two people thay I considered my best friends....

That’s the point that hit me the most too. I can’t even cuddle my boyfriend (who I’ve been with for a year now) because my social anxiety spikes and I start overthinking everything like am I breathing weird, is he comfortable in this position? Do I smell bad? I’m twitching, can he feel me twitching? Can he feel how tense I am? I sweat so much when I’m cuddling because my mind won’t shut up and let me just enjoy the cuddle. 😒

I'm a veteran, was actually addicted to alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe anxiety and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with related health challenges.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

As a black man my social anxiety hits harder and different. The world already hates me for my American dark skin, but the struggles have crushed me into the abyss of loneliness and confusion. I work every single day just to keep myself busy from distractions.

The world doesn't hate you. Some people may be awkward with you because they irrationally fear being perceived as racist for innocuous and well meaning behaviour. I appreciate there are vile racists you may have had extremely negative experiences with. But they are not the world. Rather they are shunned for expressing such views around solely white people.

Don't worry- you are not alone. Just remember everything will be okay, people may be judging, but don't let that stop you. It is completely normal to feel awkward, scared, shy, anxious or panic when you felt like you faced too many people. Take a deep breath and believe in yourself, relax, trust me, if you have true friends, they won't judge you at all. Even if there's cases where you are invited to a party, it's your choice and i'm sure they will understand. But why don't overcome your fears? Believe in yourself and people, believe that they won't press you, and it should be easy. Just don't rush, there's time, when you are ready, stand up and strike a conversation. Here's a small tip, be yourself, be natural, don't rehearse conversations and topics, just let it flow to you. Friendly and comfortable conversations are when it's not forced and it comes out of your mind. Hopes this helps, i once have social anxiety myself, i believe in you, you can do it too. ❤️

I struggle to explain social anxiety to people. They say they understand but then get agitated or confused when I don’t want to do certain things- like go to an event with a bunch of people I don’t know. I literally struggle walking down the hall at work because preparing for how to ‘be’ or ‘act’ when a person walks past me nearly sends me into a panic attack. It is so difficult, draining, and isolating to try and get people to understand that in recent years I have just started to give up.

this might sound dumb, but can you try to tell yourself that you're being watched cuz you're 'cool', and that you 'deserve' the attention? it's something that worked for me... go buy a new jacket or try a prettier outfit.. change your hairstyle and believe me when i say that upping your self-confidence game works WONDERS. everyone can try to look the best they can ----if you give Donald Trump a face-life, and make him lose weight, he'll look decent (just don't engage in conversation with him, you can't change whatever the heck's up with his brain)... in short, do things that make you feel more confident in yourself and convinces you that the attention you receive is POSITIVE.

@@jakaika1414 i have been there, i know how you feel... Can you walk up to the mirror and see yourself once more? Look at the person in the mirror and find out the most attractive features they have. Maybe you have pretty eyes, or you're very satisfied with how your lips look... Try posing, 'DO' things in front of the mirror like no one's watching--- pout, smile, try different kinds of smiles and see which one suits you the best--------but the most important thing to do here is to ENJOY this experience you're having with YOURSELF in the mirror. Play some lively pop music and dance by yourself... think of it like a self-pamper date (with 'self') Go shopping afterwards... treat yourself... there are lots of videos on youtube that teaches you how to choose clothes based on your body--- ------i have found them to be helpful... more precisely, i've found 'following' them to be useful. I am kinda dumb and can't tell the difference between how a colour-suiting shirt (warm toned) looked better on me that my 'clashing-colour' cool-toned shirt did (*just look at how nerdy this seems*, but I really felt like i 'knew' what I was wearing. The sense of 'KNOWING' gave me SO MUCH CONFIDENCE- There's this youtube channel too--- Alexandra's Girly Talk (do it you're a girl) Also, try something new. If you think losing weight will help you look better, by all means, go for it. Anything that makes you gains confidence. Sometimes, the 'sense of accomplishment' after losing a few pounds really brings a lot of pride and boosts self confidence. Cuz, at the end of the day, you just need to look beautiful and worthy to YOURSELF. @anxnma
@anxnma Жыл бұрын
Since primary school, I have had fear of talking to people in class and having presentations in front of the class, teachers keep commenting that I'm shy on my report card and telling my parents I don't talk or participate in class. At that time I was less insecure about myself and i had gained confidence at school when I reached year 5-6. But as soon as after covid hit, when I was going onto year 7, I moved to a new country, where everywhere's unfamiliar and I knew no one at school. I was terrified about my frist day, I thought that everything is going to be alright since the people are going to be new anyways, but few days in I realised almost everyone at school have at least one friend, while I'm sitting on a bench in the sun alone every single break. I didn't make any friends until halfway through year 7. I eventually made some friends, which are still the only friends I have until now (year 9). Puberty hit me hard, where I started comparing myself to others, thinking I'm too ugly, too fat, too short, every awful thing I could imagine of myself. At year 8, after a whole year of high school, I was still that unknown quiet kid at the back of the class, everyday walking into the school had became a huge challenge for me, I put my head down and avoid every single eye contact possibly to any students or teachers. As I feel like everyone is severely judging me for how i look like and behave. The only time I would ever put my head up is when my parents or friends are around as I could think that people would be judging them instead of me. I barely talked to anyone in my class for 3 years straight, everytime I tried to speak I couldn't start myself, I keep fidgeting with my nails and I would pinch myself with nails whenever I think I did something embarassing. I couldn't speak normally to strangers, ordering a meal at the counter would be the death of me. My parents don't understand how hard it was for me to ''speak up'' and have conversations with others. I would get scared to talk to people I know and seen a lot after 1 month of not talking and I would lock myself in my room to avoid contact. I couldn't answer people's question normally sometimes as I am often having a hard time thinking of an answer that wouldn't possibly embarass myself and sound normal. I never knew social anxiety was a thing, and I thought it's completely normal or how i behave. After I got to know about it, I tried telling my parents that I might be more than an introvert and being shy, they wouldn't litsen, they said I was being crazy. Well, I'm still not sure if I really have social anxiety or not. Either way I'm still trying to fight through it everyday, telling myself while walking to put my head up and talk with more people, trying to make as most memories of myself at this age, having more friends and all. To everyone who's like me, you are definately not alone, you got this, we will all fight through this some day, stay strong love

Thankfully after lockdown it kind of alleviated and I made many friends but I moved countries AGAIN. New school, new everything, I don't even feel like talking to my old friends let alone my new ones... its weird, sometimes I can be very talkative but other times I'm borderline silent for months on end. Really annoying and hope that I can get over it..

I know that problem. How to be honest without losing your dignity? I try to keep things pragmatic and avoid expressing emotions on the topic, because that will tempt them into pitying me. I just clearly state my limitations, so people know what to expect of me. Some accept it, some don't and most never understand and that's ok too. Sure it still hurts when people get angry with me for not living up to their expectations, but if I'm clear about my limitations it's not me disappointing them.

As a person with social anxiety, it does make me feel different from others, embarrass myself, interfering with how I perform, and my relationships, and even though I’ve known my classmates for 2 whole years, I still am scared of them. I overthink things A LOT, and also makes me feel sick all the time. Everything here is correct about social anxiety, but the turning point is that I’m the EXACT OPPOSITE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. I talk with my only 2 friends a lot.

I have social anxiety because of my parents they donot let me go outside of my house or even my room and this is where I feel started to feel uncomfortable around people or normal public places, even at the school when the teacher asks a question to the class and even If I know It I cannot say it I don't have the confidence to raise my hands in class... Even if I don't go outside of my room but whenever I am going to school or coming back from school I feel like "look they are laughing at you they are judging you again" and finally when I came home I lock my room's door and sit on the corner of my room...I will never forgive my parents and forget what they did and how much I am suffering because of them.

I kinda grew up the same as you but it was more for safety I usually either just go out with friends or family never been anywhere alone and I am 21! But when I was in school I felt social anxiety. Mine comes and goes, but now I am doing much better even though I still have it. I push it away breathing and repeating that no one is looking at me no one's paying me attention and it works quite well :). In school I even raised my hand to answer a question I knew I surprised myself lol. Also the pandemic took my last year in school from my senior year I did all of it at home on the laptop and I kinda liked it. I even read a chapter of the book to the class through the laptop I am always happy with small accomplishments getting better and better everyday you got this! Finding a friend also can be easy just sit down next to someone eating alone at lunch and get to know them. It might be hard but it helps you get out of a bubble. Try to go on walks with family and when someone comes by say hey I love your dog, or hi Nice day, or I like your outfit. Doing this will help a lot. You got it take it one step at a time :)

Social anxiety is caused by anxiety. Anxiety is mental illness. What I realized by my own experiences, is that I can’t control my emotions. The way that I am and my vision of how I perceive the world are included by the way that I think and feel. I know for sure anxiety shyness are related. I think it’s also because I am a very reserved and antisocial person.

Felt all of this and even seeing people stories and relatable moment as well. For me I feel like it was something developed as I got older because I started to know and become more aware. It’s so bad to the point where like I could finally break the ice and have a full blown conversation with someone new or even familiar and in the midst of the conversation my brain reminds me of how abnormal it is for me to hold conversations or that it doesn’t want me to. So it start going downhill mid conversation for me and I start to think of what to say next to keep the conversation going or avoid eye contact. Later on I remember the whole conversation and replay it in my head and think of all the things I could’ve said better or start thinking that the other person maybe thinks I’m weird or something. It’s still an ongoing issue and I wish it could go away but I realize what seems to work is distractions and being delusional. Like I started surrounding myself with encouraging quotes and watching you tubers like thewizliz and basically developed this I don’t give a f*ck mindset or like no one is better than me and I am not any better than anyone and we’re all equal so who care. Also like a I’ll never see this person ever again and they probably don’t care. It has helped me having these mindsets and sometimes I can feel my brain trying to creep in and destroy the progress and it does win sometimes but you know it’s a working progress and every you practice it consistently you’ll overpower the negative messages from your mind. Also you can also pretend you’re still your younger self because as children we don’t really process what we’re doing or saying and we’re authentically ourselves not giving a care in the world what others think. Like have you ever heard two children having a conversation. Yes it is funny and lacks structure but sometimes structure ruins things. Sometimes not knowing and just letting the conversation effortlessly flow turns out to be one of the best moments Fruit for thought: Your thoughts aren’t always right. They’re imaginary. Fiction. Disguised to look real but is very fake. Tell these thoughts to “stfu nobody cares...and I don’t care” or “not today” cause if you give in to these thoughts, when you finally feel the urge to fight the battle, you’ll lose half of your life, opportunities that could’ve been, fun times and relationships/friendship that’s could’ve been long lasting. You’ll miss out on a whole lifetime and you’re going to reminisce on “what it could’ve been”. So fight the battle while you still can. It’s going to be hard but that’s the proof that you’re fighting and that you want your mind back!

The harsh reality is that no matter how hard you try to break out of it it always seems to come back after doing good for a short period of time. Sometimes I will be confident for a small period and think that I figured it out, but then wake up the next morning and it’s like a reset button and I have to start all over again😔. I pray abt it to go away in hopes that one day I won’t be held back by anxiety and can live freely.

I have even chosen a career path of coaching so that I can be uncomfortable and break out of this anxiety. I am daily looking for ways to challenge myself which is so hard because I am suffering the whole way through. I wish I could stay in my room at home and be safe from interactions to be at peace, but I know how important it is to my future and my future family that I can be a man that is not held back by a mental illness despite how hard it is to go through. I would not wish social anxiety on anyone and wish that people would be more aware of how challenging it is. I can’t even fathom waking up and not being anxious. I really try to hide it all with fake confidence but it has been taking a toll on my mind for so many years and feel caged up in my mind no matter how hard I try to resist. Anyone who struggles with a similar situation I feel your pain and hope that one day we can feel free to be ourselves. Despite how you may feel with this mental illness, it doesn’t not make you any less of a man or weak. Fighting something like this makes you a stronger individual than the average man. God gives his toughest battles to his toughest soldiers🙌🏻

Ugh I hate when people say “oh, you could just be shy, you’re not introverted or have social anxiety” or “oh you could just be sad, you’re not depressed” like who are you specifically to say so? How are shyness, social anxiety, and introversion different? That doesn’t make any sense. You are shy for a reason, you are socially anxious for a reason, you are introverted for a reason and that is all associated with the idea that you are afraid to be around people. Why are we dividing synonymous terminology as it’s own separate thing? They’re the same. You avoid people because you lack the skills to effectively talk to people or talk to a lot of people than what you are used to, that’s not enough of a difference to separate these three concepts apart. You’re shy, you’re not that good at dealing with people, and although you CAN deal with people, you chose not to. They’re all the same thing.

Whenever I just think about going to the dentist for example,my heart starts to beat so fast and I start to have trouble with breathing because of the communication I have to make with people there, and I get so scared when I have to talk to someone,scared to embarrass myself and what the person will think about me after. My social anxiety is so bad omg. I remember one day when i was in middle school, i asked my teacher to not make me present my project, but she said i would fail if not. While i was presenting istg i thought i was gonna faint. My heart was beating hella fast, i couldn't even speak properly, felt like i couldn't breathe, i was shaking and extremely light headed. I just think teachers should be more informed about mental issues like social anxiety before forcing triggers upon students unknowingly.
@nadie8553
@nadie8553 3 жыл бұрын
ugh I know that feeling, I hate that because I’ve always being good in studies but presentations were so hard for me. I looked dumb and unprepared a lot of times, like reading my script without looking up and with my hands shaking. I couldn’t even read it well. Now I hide my irrational nervousness better but it’s still there. Yeah it’s important to know how to talk in public and all that shit but... It’s really unfair to some people, because they never teach you techniques to calm yourself or something like that, they’re just like “don’t get nervous” 😀.

I relate so much. I one time had a really rough month where my social anxiety was more bad than any other months and I had to presented my presentation and I literally BEGGED my teacher not to do it she said I have to or she will give me an F so I asked if I at least can do it at my seat she said no I have to go in front of the class but I was able to sit on a chair I got red as heck my heart started racing so fast and I was sweating a bit I thought too that I will faint and I the whole time just talked quiet stuttert and looked at my notes I avoided eye contact it was a disaster. I was able to pass it luckily but I was so close of to fail it. It was just extreme for me

I feel that :( it’s extremely ableist when teachers dock points off your grade for not being able to make eye contact, hands shaking, etc. during presentations. Teachers should be more aware about mental illnesses and disabilities and listen to the student.

Exactly, teachers should not force the socially anxious students to answer in front of so many people. These days during the online classes, it is even more pathetic, they threaten you to switch on your camera and microphones to answer or else they will mark us absent and attendance affects the academy. I always break down when my teacher forcefully makes me answer. UGH! btw, i'm one of your subscribers, didn't know you are socially anxious too. i love your videos, we're from the same fam (coz kpop, bruh)

I’m not diagnosed but I think I have social anxiety and I really easily get attached to people. Whenever I’m really fully able to talk to the person and get over my social anxiety I feel attached to them.
