Coffee is renowned and loved around the world, but as someone who drinks coffee at Starbucks like once or twice a week, frankly, it's a world I know nothing about.
However, as someone who loves diving into the technique of how to make better food at home, I had to find how to make better coffee at home. I enlisted in a coffee class with Ricardo, who has been a barista for over 7 years, is a founder of Borola Cafe and is a judge in national coffee competitions in Mexico. Let's walk through 8 things I learned to make a better cup of coffee at home

Ethan, I've been awware of most of these tips, but no one has distilled them, demonstrated them, and explained them all so well and concisely. Excellent job!

Allowing coffee to cool is actually better for assessing flavor as our tounges lose sensitivity at relatively extreme temperatures. The hottest you want to drink your coffee is at 50C - 60C, any more than that and the heat will start masking the taste (you might also burn your tongue). It may take some time however for it to get to that range, so in order to get there sooner, I would suggest pouring small portions at a time and not preheating the cups. 5-10 minutes is a good time to wait for the coffee to cool down.

Great tips , I use my chemex on daily basis, I’m still trying to figure out flavor so still experimenting with different beans and grind settings.

I have a tip for anybody with a chemex, if the paper makes a seal around the edge, your brew will stall/stop and its just really annoying, so to prevent that (to some extent) take the thicker side of the paper and make sure it is on the pouring spout side so it is stiffer and less likely to seal

I spent a month deciding what home brew method to use. Hario v60? kalita wave? Chemex? AeroPress? Clever? Etc. Finally settled on chemex and I love mine.

These are great tips and when I use my chemex I employ most of them. But most of the time I am far too lazy. I think the Aeropress is a great way to get a consistently good cup with minimal effort

When you're timing the pour do you start counting 45 seconds after you complete the pour or start counting as your are pouring?

pH of the water is also important. We have very hard water where I live and adding a bit of citric acid has upped my coffee game

The tips relating to being precise are... true... they're true, but the problem I, and I'm assuming at least a few others, have is that I'm not mentally capable of doing those precision steps first thing in the morning when people would generally be brewing coffee. What are people who are not morning people to do?

Great video except one thing I can't agree with. I want to know how coffee is going to taste in the way I normally drink it. I'm not going to go to a restaurant and slurp right? Or even sit at home enjoy my coffee by slurping. That coffee better taste good the way I typically drink it or it's not good to me.

Can you also please make a video about techniques on making coffee very creamy and delicious? Some folks like black coffee but many like creamy. The problem is, that creamers like coffemate powder have unhealthy ingredients such as hydrogenated oils which contains transfat and is very unhealthy through time. So what other things can be added to make it delicious? And thick and how many spoons per oz of water etc. One youtuber said Impact protein salted caramel made it very creamy. Maybe talk about instant coffee? Va ground. Indonesian brands like kapal api is good.

LOL no way to I have enough time in the day to do it this way - I'll take a slightly less perfect cup of coffee and get some stuff done ... :) BUT fine for a barista :0

I understand your point about getting things done, but taking 20 minutes to make a pour over with my Chemex and a quick breakfast are meditative and help me prepare for my day. I remember my father getting up at 5 sitting in his chair and enjoying his morning coffee. As I have grown older, I appreciate what he was doing.
