I used to watch "King Kong", "Son of Kong", and "Mighty Joe Young" on ch. 9 every Thanksgiving as a kid, so I was probably seeing all these when they aired. (Loved me the Godzilla marathons on Black Friday, too.)

The holiday movie weekend was awesome! King Kong movies on Thanksgiving & Godzilla movies on Black Friday!!! But it wasn't called Black Friday yet, because retailers hadn't figured out that people would be willing to shop all day & night on the day after Turkey Day

TOTALLY WORTH IT for the Martin Paint earworm that I finally heard after over 30 years again!!!! They were all over New York radio with that very same jingle back in the day. WOR always would show the King Kong and Godzilla movies Thanksgiving weekend throughout the 80s.

I was born in the bronx in 83 left nyc in 02 seeing any vids having to do with old nyc area commercials always brings great memories. WOR will always be home to the mets.

Good stuff...the John Davidson PSA definitely dates this block, since his show only aired on Ch. 9 during its second season (81-82).

Also, the Skyy album was released in mid-to late 1981, Time Bandits came out in the fall of '81, & On Mo Time ran at the Village Gate from 1979-1983

Nothing quite says "thanksgiving" like gathering around the TV with your turkey dinners & watching King Kong. Fun Around Faces: Your kid will play it once & never touch it again. 6:40 I feel like I grew up listening to that guy's voice. Must watch Time Bandits.......

These would have aired from 3-5pm, so not really when most people were eating their turkey. "Son Of Kong" would have aired from 5-7pm though.

A Thanksgiving marathon of Godzilla movies? Sign me up! Reminds me of when the Comedy Channel used to do "Turkey Day" marathons of Mystery Science Theater 3000 every Thanksgiving. God, I miss that.

I've seen that commercial a lot and didn't notice that until I saw this today! I'm not from New York, but I'm a big fan of classic radio DJs and recognized Dan's voice.

Hotel Bar Butter/Margarine-at first i thought that was where it actually came from lol NBO-the red-haired woman sounded kind of bored Time Bandits-good movie,that ending came out of left field though (got to wonder just what happened to Kevin afterwards..) Christmas Children's Fund ad-..guess the studio crew went off to their holiday party and left John there so he could shoot the commercial XD Benylin-the cough medicine that transports you to a higher plane of existence.. Skyy Line-talk about not having any rhythm

oh man the godzilla movies! (also I do spy Jet Jaguar in one clip, I guess he was their answer to Ultraman?) also I swear the 'Chain Lightning' guy is he the same narrator that did the GI JOE tv series?? if not it sounds awfully close.
