SCHRADE USA UNCLE HENRY 897UH Signature Premium Stock. 3-9/16" stockman pattern. The Uncle Henry line was introduced in 1967. They had a tang stamp of "Schrade Walden NY USA" up until 1973. In 1973 the tang stamp changed to "Schrade NY USA". Some early ones were serialized on the inside liner, until they discontinued that practice. They were made until the company closed in 2004 and had a MSRP of $39.45. It is a medium sized stockman with rounded nickle silver bolsters and Uncle Henry signature shield. :Staglon" plastic delrin handle covers, brass pins and liners. Main blade is a turkish clip point with a nail nick. Tang stamp says "Schrade + usa 897UH" Schrade + always meaning stainless steel. Also has sheepfoot blade with nail nick on the main blade side, and a spey blade. Nice sleek little knife. Thank you for watching! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comment section below.
Specifications: 3-9/16" Closed

I used to be from that area in the 80s and 90s, the workers would take them home and sell them in their yard sales, one guy had hundreds of defects.

I understand from a older friend who is no longer with us that stainless steel was treated by a few companies like the superior steel, he never understood why having said many times he preferred carbon steel for its ease of sharpening and character development. He always said if you take care of it then you will appreciate what a good carbon steel can do for you. Now that being said, he didnt completely write off stainless because the last few years of his life he appreciated not having to immediately clean up a knife after a hunting trip or using a stainless cooking knife. He had slowed down a lot and sometimes stuff happens so he couldnt always get to or even remember to get to a knife and clean, dry and oil it shortly after using it.

I have the 885UH King Ranch unused in the box with papers. I just take it out occasionally and admire it.

I really like these 897UH knives. Mine unfortunately has a pretty weak opening on the main blade. It closes fine, but on the opening it's just kind of settles in. I'll have to keep my eyes open for another one. Great review. Thanks.

Those was nice looking knives and the new versions are nice even though they are made in China today under the Schrade company name. My grandfather had one of those knives as well as a Case which he carried around in his pocket for skinning rabbits and squirrels as well as cutting his chewing tobacco with.

Thanks for this video. I have a Schrade + usa 897UH. I take it there is no way of knowing where and when it was made without looking inside the liner. If that.

I inherited a 897UH, which my Opa ground the top forward corner of the sheep's foot in a concave curve, in other words, opposite to original. He was not afraid to modify his tools to suit him better, wish could have asked him, do you or anyone else happen to know why he do this? Is there any way to date if the shield is missing? No stamping on the inside, by the way. TIA

love my uncle henry:) what do you mean by "Turkish" blade??
@ISLANDOUTDOORS1
@ISLANDOUTDOORS1 7 жыл бұрын
On the "Turkish Clip" blade, the clipped part of the blade is very long and the edge is sometimes swayed. Similar to the California Clip. More slender and less robust than a regular clip point blade.
