Great video!! I have two Uncle Henry LB7s in my collection, one from the 80s and the second is definitely later but made in the USA. I bought them recently on eBay and I was fascinated by their quality. I had never tried them before and I liked them. I will never get rid of them. My brothers & I carried LB7’s in the 70’s. I owned three before I tired of the weight on my belt. Because of the Chinese factor I just bought a 110 for the nostalgia of that type of knife. Will only carry the 110 if I take a bike ride. Great review, brought back some memories shared with my brothers, thanks.

Thank you for your video. I'm more of a gun carrying person but I recently came upon a knife my Dad had and I have owned since his passing 28 years ago. It's a Schrade USA LB7 w/4 pins in the handle part, 7 pins total. I rarely even looked at it over the years but today I took an interest in it and have been reading and watching your video. I guess it's more of a collectors item than I imagined. My knife hasn't been used but it has been in its sheath since new except to handle a bit. I believe I'll start carrying it now, I love it.

Thanks for the comparison and I hope that you will not see this as bashing as I have knives manufactured from all over. But, can you speak to how thick the edge is in comparison to the old and new LB7’s? I have a BTI produced Schrade 34OT and the grinds are way thicker behind the edge than the older USA models that I own. I would like to see them thin it out a bit and also move away from the 7CR steel if possible. Thanks.

The blade shape and grind changed drastically between the early years and later years of the U.S.A. ones. I remember going to Andersons general store in the mid 90s and going through the boxes to find one of the older manufactured ones vs the newer ones. Then going to Target about 1998 and could only find the newer ones. My first two I bought at a ServiceStar hardware in 1984 with some lawn mowing money and they are both 4 pins.

I have one of them. Uncle Henry then R in a circle. Underneath is Schrade. Both in small fine script. The other side is LB7 in old style script. I assume this was the 1095 high carbon steel. Absolutley no tarnish It's 4 pined brass liners with seperate brass bolsters. Beautiful full grain walnut scales. NO NUMBERS. All the sides and ends (including the scales) are fully chamfered / bevelled. The sheath is a rich dark mahogany leather stamped Schrade and the blacksmith and anvil... with a (nickle) silver snap. I've never seen another LB7 knife/sheath combination. Oviously way too many steps to keep producing and put into mass production. It is so much more refined than the following versions.@@richardkrause3594

Something else interesting about the history, is that Service Merchandise sold both the Buck 110 and Schrade LB7 in the 80's. That company had print catalogues. Like Sears and J.C. Penney. Both 110 and LB7 had listings, pictures and prices on the same page. I was in my early teens and looked at that page, but bought my first two from a local hardware store. They cost about the same, one or the other was a little more. I can't remember.

I have a 1990s Schrade UH Bear Paw and a 1970s Buck 110 and a 2014 Buck 110. My older Buck 110 is thicker and heavier than the newer Buck 110, just like the older Schrade LB7. I don't have a scale but it feels just as heavy as my USA Schrade. The older Buck is a tad thicker (maybe a 1/32 of an inch) than the older Schrade but the older Schrade handles are a little longer (about 3/16 of an inch). All three are great knives but the USA Schrade seems to be the more robust of the three. I know it is sacrilege to say, but the newer Buck (2014) is at least as good if not a better knife than my older Buck 110. The handles are more rounded and more comfortable in my hand and it locks up real tight and the blade is perfectly centered. The older Schrade and Buck knives are harder to sharpen (harder steel I presume) and the newer Buck gets razor sharp very easily. JMHO.

I'm not sure if I'll be buying one of these, seeing as i would most likely end up buying a china made, modern production one. Every old-timer, uncle Henry, or schrade knife I've ever bought had subpar steel and heat treatment to the point that it just would not take an edge. Heck, i had a dream last night that i bought this same knife and the lock back mechanism broke. The reason for me making this comment is that I'm simply divided on this knife. For one, I want a folding hunter to replace my vintage Buck 110 that I no longer carry (it's a family keepsake, now) but for two, i just have never had a good experience with modern Taylor brand knives.

My only problem with chinese knifes is the heat treatment, 440c from brands like Ganzo can be OUTSTANDING, but there are a crapton of brands using D2 and either they are terrible or only decent, if you look hard enough, you might find some.good ones too

Buck does a great job with their heat treatment. Thanks Fenando. Welcome to the channel.

Schrade copied the Buck 110.I wonder if the backlock is as strong as the American one

Yes I know, they are very respectable copies, still probably not as stout as 110.

I got a tailor knife and showed it to a old worker from schrade. They looked at and said we didn't make that piece of junk.

Your comment about the knife sheath are incorrect. I have the original UH/Schrade knife stamped USA with the dark sheath. Just saying.

Not incorrect, just that they varied a lot through the years.

@@ThriftyKaniffy Agreed…. and perhaps that could of been part of the message. You have a great presence in your presentation and should do well. My version has what looks like a hand stamped identification mark in the brass on the front lower part of the knife on same side of the blade as the blade markings Uncle Henry / SCHRADE + / LB7 USA. The ID reads AY8729 and the characters appear to have been individually stamped. Any thoughts on this for the heavy duty USA made folder?

It's disappointing to here you say that the knives are of an equivalent quality without actually using either one. I don't buy my knives just to look at, realistically this comparison was meaningless.

So I'm assuming you have your doubts about the Chinese version. That's fine, Jeff. 👌

I have bought Chinese knives and every one of them has horrible fit up, and sub par steel. Likely issues with bad or no heat treat.

Bad knives are bad knives, there's plenty made worldwide, not just China.
