Informational visual reference for those who are new at Windows 98. Sounds funny saying that in 2023, but there are some out there who are just now getting into emulating older versions of Windows. The reason you would want to copy the .CAB files over to the hard drive is it makes hardware changes go quicker and the install is much quicker as well. Plus, you'll never get a message asking you to insert the windows CD. Other things you'll notice me doing are more or less system tweaks like eliminating the network neighborhood, stripping down the start menu, speeding up menu, etc, etc. Optional tweaks but does make a difference. Remember to use the latest version of the Voodoo3 drivers you can find. If you are new to Windows 98... well back in the day we had to hunt down drivers, experience some of that fun with 86Box as you do the same, fortunately, most all major drivers are easily found. Phil's computer Lab www.philscomputerlab.com/driv... (which can sometimes give a false report as malware) has a great selection of Voodoo drivers for you to use. My personal best audio sounds, came from using the ISA Sound blaster 16 and nothing fancier. Your emulated CPU speed is going to depend on your machine's CPU. I got my 2700x running a 166Mhz CPU fairly well, 233Mhz, not bad, 300Mhz, stutter. My Ryzen 7700x can do 300-333Mhz fairly stable (IMHO), but I prefer to run at 266-300Mhz most times.
