This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. kzfaq.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

The only instructions I heard were to bloom the coffee and use regular (not distilled) water. I came for tips on temperature, grind, coffee/water ratio, and brewing time, for which I'm grateful to have heard ranges and expected effects.

I started using "pour over coffee" when I was too cheap to buy a coffee maker. Bought a plastic one at Walmart for like $5. I have a friend that calls it a "camper's brew" which I like better. Its real simple to use and I think the fact that you don't need electricity for a good cup of coffee is what makes it special.

Exactly. I'm off grid and any electric coffee makers I've found require 1500 watts, a big, noisy generator.

@Ma_Ba

You caught their mistake about the dark roast and light roast temperatures! Dark roasts are already broken down by the roasting, so more permeable at a lower temp compared to the light roasts needing a higher temp for solvent. They didn't make a mistake about saying to drink at a lower temperature though. This is for health AND ability to appreciate taste better at a lower temperature. (History and epidemiology: Eastern Euro countries used a samovar for heat AND as a boiler for tea. They have lowered the high occurence of throat cancers -of non smokers, non alcoholics- by reducing the temp of tea drinks by just a few degrees. See NIH study summaries.)

I like the pour over method very much. I appreciate the lack of sediment. It also seems to be ready temperature-friendly for drinking faster than other methods. I think grind size is a very important consideration because I have found that if it is too fine (including medium fine. That's a setting just before my finest burr setting on my KitchenAid attachment) the filtering takes too long and the first cup is no longer an ideal temperature. A pleasant surprise... I have had good success with pre-ground coffee from Trader Joe's. I usually keep a bag for when I just want a quick cup with milk and perhaps sweetener or when I want iced coffee. The grind size of that TJs uses is actually ideal for pour over and I get terrific results even though it might not as fresh as whole-bean. I've read that pour over is a better method for lighter roasts than dark roasts, but that difference is probably missed by my palate.

any particular reason why you should aim for such a time? been using a v60 for awhile and ive been try to rationalize it. what if i want to make a larger cup? obviously it'll take more time so you have to adjust your variables such as grind size, pour speed etc. but why aim for such a time? thanks!

Hey, I did watch the video already (and read the description), but it seems odd to me that you guys use the 3 setting for drip cones, as this gives me a way too long extraction time, granted I have only 1 hole in my dripper. I use a 5-6 setting depending on the beans and even that gives me an extraction time that is on the longer end... Thanks for the answer :)

Coffee Dripper I have the stainless steel cone pour over coffee dripper (no filter) and I love it but after making my first of 3 - ½ - ¾ cups of coffee, the dripper starts dripping very slow, if at all. I have to push up the coffee grinds to get it to start dripping again. When I fill the dripper up with water it drips through but when it gets half way down, it slows down or stops. I use 3 tablespoons of coffee grinds. I clean both sides with hot water. Any ideas?

Which is better the French press or pour over .. also is the Vietnamese coffee filter a type of pour over ?
@MrAndroid1337
@MrAndroid1337 6 жыл бұрын
misZdharlynJOY I’m sure you found an answer but just Incase you didn’t, and for others. There isn’t really a better one as those are on white opposite sides of the spectrum of flavors. It’s more of a personal preference as a french press is usually more of a bolder cup of coffee and a pour over, such as the Chemex is more of a tastier. And when I say tastier, I mean clearer and less bold. That doesn’t mean the french press is not tasty as that’s all I’ve been drinking. I have yet to try a pour over because I’m intimidated by all the techniques and what not but i hope this helped. Side note however, there are pour over methods such as the v60 or even others that are more bold than the Chemex but less bold than the frenchpress. There’s even hybrid immersion pour over brewers too. Hoped this helped

Question - does it make much of a difference to use paper filters in a ceramic brewer or no paper filters at all in a metal mesh brewer? If not then that would eliminate one step by not having to wet the paper filter before brewing. Would either type of brewer be more significantly preferred?
@Frenchpresscoffeelove

Paper vs Metal filter makes huge difference. With paper filter you'll have "cleaner" cup of coffee (less coffee oils and etc.,). Enjoy your coffee!

But the oils from the coffee bean is what adds to the flavor so paper filters might give you a "cleaner" cup of coffee but not a better cup of coffee, right? Was that what you meant?

Tell me why I shouldn't pour around the sides? I would think that would help bring coffee that sticks around the top of the funnel back down and so get more flavor out of all the grinds instead of just the bottom... There's probably something I don't understand. Tell me! Thanks.
@rustler08
@rustler08 7 жыл бұрын
Because pouring around the sides will lift and push the grounds inward, which will result in that water not flowing through the grounds. Thus, you will get less extraction, resulting in weaker/more watery coffee.

Main benefit is that you can fully control everything (water temp, brew time and etc.). Drip machines will not allow you to do that at all. Plus you really involve with coffee and as result you'll get the best cup of coffee. Enjoy!

Ok I see, thanks for the quick reply, I am just starting my coffee drinking and I decided I wanted proper coffee from the get go rather than sipping on some cheap, and bitter coffee at work. this channel has been a great inspiration to try new methods and learning something new :D

Pour over coffee is healthier because of glass and stainless materials vs. plastic that is used in electric pour overs. Also, the electric coffee makers are harder to clean and maintain and can develop scale, which of course can be removed with a de-scaler. It's better to filter your water before brewing. I use Brita. If I don't filter before boiling in a Hario kettle, the bottom of the pot will develop deposits. If I filter the water, the pot stays clean.

The notes that you would get, the flavours and with experimenting with the ratios, you can control how you want the notes to come out. It is a beautiful coffee world out there.

Just made coffee with my percolator - fantastic. The secret: live in Colorado where the water boils at 205°F - doesn't burn the coffee.

Hey, just a bit confused. You had said to use 1 Tbsp or 7 grams of coffee for every 4 oz of water. But having looked it up, 1 Tbsp isn't equivalent to 7 grams, its actually 15 grams. So should it just be 1 Tbsp or 15 grams?

John Kim I just weighed some coffee today. Mine came out to 9g per tbsp. Likely depends on your grind (smaller grind is more dense, so weighs more). That's why a scale is always best.

Order online from Costco. Bring it to Costco. Use their grinder. Grind entire bag at once. I grind to French press setting for my Chemex. I do live very close to a Costco.

run it thru a grinder that thousands of people have used? NO WAY. not to mention all the chemicals that land there during cleaning and insect fumigation. haha or the insects themselves who want their morning buzz!! very worth the price of my own grinder.

Still use the coffee pot on the stove or fire...add water, 1 handful of grounds...when coffee runs out add more water and another cup of grounds....repeat until no room is left for water.

chart says 1 - 1.5 tbs ground coffee. Is this measured beans or measured ground?
@Klassenfeind

measured ground. I'd get a kitchen scale and measure weight, not volume :) I usually take 6 grams per 100ml, that's exactly one 'coffee measure spoon' of coffee beans. fellowproducts.com/the-golden-ratio-for-coffee-brewing/
