Thank you for sharing these moments. I had a bike accident 2 years ago and broke a few ribs and punctured my lung, and whilst in hospital being scanned they found cancer in my kidney and had that removed last year . I can only imagine what your mind is going through as well as the pain. My pain is pretty much gone but my mind still wanders sometimes so I have to remain focused. You sir are a warrior and I wish you the best recovery possible and obviously this will s going to take some time to adjust. I am in my 60s and get worried about riding my old 883 and think it’s about time I stuck with the car. At least having other hobbies such as music and still love driving my automatic car. You have a very positive mindset and that is so rare in this day and age. Sending best wishes to you and your loved ones because they are all going through this with you. I don’t know you but your videos make me weep due to me being sensitive. Stay strong ely

Don, I wish you a speedy recovery. Your mental resilience is something else! I just fell off my bike (while it was parked) and am on crutches, but I have my limbs, so I won't complain. I'm looking forward to the gear videos. Your accident is making a lot of us question our gear choices and the rationalizations most of us have made at one time or another not to wear ATGATT. Stay strong, buddy!

Don, you're a frigging trooper, dude! Your sense of humor during a time when we all know you must be struggling with this challenge, is very admirable and speaks volumes to who you are. Ironic that you are there at Vanderbilt as that is where I was when I fell off a car carrier back in 2017 and broke my back. They had me for a couple of weeks. I was also away from home when that happened. Praying for you to recover quickly. I'm going to be directing my viewers to check out your channel and see if I can help you get traffic up so we can all be entertained by your courage when you get outfitted and back on a motorcycle. I say this because I'm convinced that is exactly what you are going to do.

Retired now, but looking back I was only lucky to have never been down and in your current situation. Your wit, humor, resilience and overall attitude thru your journey after the crash has moved me. I’m thankful for you sharing with us all, I truly am. Praying for you sir.. stay strong 💪 we are all learning from this .

When I saw those little cotton squares going over the knee wound, I thought 8 bucks, 8 bucks, 8 bucks.... I assume hospitals include all the labor in each item - nurse, purchasing agent, accounting, janitor, etc. Even then, the cost of a cotton swab or piece of tape seems excessive. It's cheap compared to sepsis, though. There's an urban legend about the patient who requested an itemized bill after a lengthy hospital stay and got a box and a half of computer paper. Seems about right. Turns out, if you add up enough $2.50 cotton balls and $60 bags of sugar-salt water they put in your veins, it adds up to $1.75M. You probably saved your insurer $400 by declining the blood transfusion.

I’ve been following you long before the accident, so I don’t feel so guilty asking how exactly did the bike fall on your foot? What caused it so much damage? I had fallen off several times when I was younger. I had a head on accident with another motorcycle and I fell off and some rocks and had my knee cut from side to side. I could pull the skin back and see the kneecap, definitely the hazardous passion!

If you are looking to scare away any potential motorcylist from riding ,this is it. I wonder how many just had their wives and girlfriends nix that idea. This is not promoting riding. This is showing what can happen when you F up and what the risks are when gear is stowed improperly. I wish you well but hope you do a vid on what not to do when packing gear one day.

The toe will help you the most for balance they had to open my foot up and three different places to lay out the bones and and pens when I had my bandage on they told me to take it off every day and soak it and Epson salt I think so the wounds would heal but double check I can’t remember if it epson or just plain salt water it’s been so long had a big open wound in my left foot. Just don’t get a trike if you do get it custom-made. Lol

I saw a video yesterday of a young guy who is an aspiring social media influencer. I generally hate "influencer" videos. This young man just took delivery on his new-to-him 2023 BMW S1000RR. He was tooling around town in a short sleeve shirt, riding over to surprise his gixxer bro buddies with his new liter bike. It was your generic blurred speedometer motorcycle vlog. I gently urged him in the comments to wear a motorcycle jacket. All of the other comments were, "Congratulations, bro. You deserve this." I'm not a follower of this influencer so I don't know what he did to "deserve" a liter bike. His influencer hook or schtick was ridin' with Jesus, so his influencer money formula seemed to be the Venn diagram union of young gixxer riders and Christians. It was typical young motorcyclist content but with "God is so awesome" sprinkled into the mix. I'm not a Euroweenie worshiper of government regulations who believes every rider should be forced to start on a 50 cc scooter, and after three years and a lot of government mandated classes and exams, be allowed to advance to a 125 cc beginner bike, and by the time you're 35, if you're very good, you'll be *allowed* to have a 600 cc bike. I'm a "Murican. A 16 year old should be able to buy a turbo Hayabusa on Craig's List if he saved enough grass cutting money, and ride around with an AR-15 slung over his shoulder, but a 19 year old riding an S1000RR with none of the gear all of the time is cutting line in his haste to meet Jesus. I guess this sounds like bitter bad choice boomer criticizing the bad choices of a young pup, but at least I'm offering advice that will be ignored rather than voting for government regulation to save everyone from our bad choices.

Well as a guy who started out on a wrecked Yamaha 1968 HS1 (look it up), I sincerely believe in starting on a small bike in the dirt. Back then, a Honda 350 was a good sized bike, a 750-4 was a huge bike. Anecdote time. Hanging out at the Yamaha shop in Hendersonville about about 30 years ago, jawing with the parts guy. Kid comes in, has a one-piece leather riding suit in colors to match his yet to be picked up bike. Goes in the restroom, dresses in his suit, they've pushed the bike (brand new R1) out front for him. He gets on, cranks it, revs it, bounces off a truck on the other side of the parking lot. Jumps up, snatches the bike up off the ground, gets back on it, revs it up, bounces off a car in the parking lot. They pushed it back into the shop for repairs. The moral of the story is: He had never had a motorcycle before but he had seen them on TV Anecdote number 2 My brother-in-law was always trying to emulate me. Guns and motorcycles. Watching too many Motocross riders get big air on the TV, so he decides to go out and buy a Yamaha YZ400F, maybe it was a YZ450F dunno. He grew up in Mississippi as a judge's kid. Mom and Daddy wouldn't let him have a motorcycle. Bought it, bought all the cool gear, took it to the track, put himself in the hospital first day, first ride. My sister sold the bike. Small bikes don't stroke the ego, but believe it or not, size ain't everything. Ride Safe👋 👽

@@xtphreak - I started riding in 1975 with a Suzuki TS250, a two stroke dual sport that lacked a tuned exhaust and was tame by two stroke standards. In the 90's, I bought a DR350 to use as an urban assault commuter bike. I speed up for speed bumps. For my 60th birthday, I downsized to a G310GS baby GS adventure bike. The only time I felt the need for speed was in my LongEZ experimental airplane. There are very few things to hit at 10,000 feet.
