The expectation was that you would grow up and get married and have a family, unless one of your children wanted to become a priest or a nun. People were also more likely to marry right out of high school or college. Of course, there were people who never married back then, but it wasn't as common. I never had any confidence when it came to women but had a couple of short-term girlfriends in high school that kind of happened to me without any effort on my part. In college I wanted to study, not date, but a girl with whom I had some things in common decided I was THE ONE. We were married for 30 years and she passed away from an illness. To this day my basic understanding of myself is that I am absolutely not what 99% of women are looking for, and just as I have done all my life, I take no action toward finding a relationship. Fortunately I enjoy being single and feel whole and complete within myself. Don't need a partner to feel like a whole person.
