Tbh I was kinda hoping for the Loup Garou (also known as the Rougarou) mentioned earlier in the story to be the monster. I did a quick search and found that it’s more like a werewolf than a boogeyman, but maybe the author was raised to believe that it was a boogeyman? Idk. Anyway, it’d be cool to add some more Cajun folklore in there since that seemed interesting, but I guess Shrek was okay as the monster...

Ah, various reasons, if you grow up in a place where you can go and find the tranquility of a swamp or forest and learn to live and handle yourself within it there is usually a personal sentiment that draws you back to it. A lot of these people have no fear of places like this and it is a lot simpler than what you have to deal with in a city. Best yet, typically you have no one to answer to and people aren't moping around fucking with shit.

I found a cabin in the swamp once, it was littered with strange pictures and carvings on the walls and furniture. There were candles and taxidermy animals around the one room, and a full length mirror. There was a man in the mirror, Death I presume, but he wasn't physically there. There's some strange painting taking shape and an alligator carcass encased in an old cage below, halfway in the swampy water. Too bad the cabin is in RDR2

what a great story!! i absolutely loved the music at 28:55 ! it fueled my imagination and gave a great picture of what was happening! Another favorite story so far of 2017!

These are some of the better stories for me personally, I like the ghost stories and while it's fun having characters die they don't need to by any means. Now to see if I can find any more ghost stories or creature stories :)
