Many of you have asked me what the schedule is like as a CRNA. Well today we're deep diving into exactly what the different types of schedules you can expect as a CRNA or physician anesthesiologist. It will be very different than your typical shift work or your time as a nurse.

RN 12 hours shifts are excluded from OT last 4 hours if you shift is set to be 12 hours. But if your set for 8 hours then yes.

Where can you find laws by state for nurses and providers? How are Washington statee' nursing laws?

Cali can be nice, but sometimes working over 8 hours have to be mgmt or supervisor approved otherwise this particular company would write you up. After 8 hours of work I had to clock out and go back to finish up…that didn’t last, out the door I was….

The pay for the more structured schedule in outpatient care is the same or less? If so is it a significant difference?

It can sometimes be a little less but thats usually because you’re not working any nights on call, weekends or holidays.

I know lots of crnas including me who get time and a half for overtime, i don’t think it’s that rare in other areas at all (i’m in the midwest)

Great to hear you found a practice that offers that. I've never heard of it outside of restricted medical direction practices, which I would dissuade anyone from working within.

So an on-call shift counts as your normal 40-hours you have to work per week?

Yes, my call shifts are included in my time commitment, but we are committed to more than 40 a week.

In regards to the OT after 8 hours for California nurses, does this apply to travel nurses?

I don't think so. You will have a negotiated pay through your travel company which will probably not be California based. You won't be a unionized nurse for the hospital. A temporary contract worker.

Yep, when I traveled to California, I received OT rate after 8 hours each day!

This might be a duh question but can CRNA’s still work a RN position? Like when you’re done with CRNA work in the week, can you pick up a shift and work as a RN. Thanks in advance!

You technically can but I've never heard of any that do that or would consider it. Many of us left the bedside the day we got our acceptance letters. You would also be held to the legal and scope of practice standards of a CRNA even if you were practicing with your lesser license of an RN. That could have you running into legal issues since as an RN you would be taking orders from another provider.

So an RN you can get with/without a bachelors degree. You can get your GrE if you didn’t have your high school diploma, and CRNA lives a salary are great. Why are people going into med school and going to college and taking out all loans?

Usually need a DNP, DNP are just as expensive as MD. So loans will still be needed.

what’s the average hourly pay for CRNA??

W2 or 1099? Most W2 positions for CRNAs are really more about a whole compensation package rather than an hourly rate so I'll guess you mean 1099 independent contractor rate. I'd say that is anywhere from $150-200/hr depending on location and negotiation skills.
