In today's video I take you along for a day in my life as a mobile programmer. I show you how I clear CVT transmission judder codes on Nissan vehicles and how to update the ECU for trouble code P0101 according to the TSB. I show you how I program a replacement PCM on a 2013 Ford Explorer and how to find the transmission solenoid strategy tag. I also talk about what I've been up to lately and what my I have not been posting videos as frequently as I used to.

A couple tips as an automotive locksmtih. We run up to 150 calls per week. If you are using any flavor of Autel on a Honda and it asks to verify the date always choose no even if correct. If not you will brick the BCM. It writes to the BCM incorrectly. Autel was not forthcoming about this even though they knew about it. Autel is no longer high up on my list because of this. Honda also has a bulletin out on aftermarket programmers bricking their BCM's. If that car ends up at the dealer the dealer will point the finger at you. This happened to 2 of us before Autel finally admitted it. The best key programmer is going to be Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro. It doesn't brick Honda's either. It's expensive and paying for tokens suck but we charge accordingly. On a Hyundai/Kia push to start if nothing seems to work disconnect the car battery for 5 minutes. After reconnecting it will program right away. Stay away from cheap aftermarket fobs. We are using mostly OEM and OEM refurbs. $3.99 aftermarkets either won't program or break in 3 months. The biggest issue is some of these damn cars even in mid years have fob changes. Some of the cars can take 3-4 different fobs and you have to carry each one because only 1 will actually work. There isn't any 100% accurate way to tell other than trial and error. Hyundai/Kia are pretty bad in this respect. We have had cars and every piece of info we could find said it took a certain fob but we couldn't get it to program. We tried one for another model and or year and it finally programmed. Fords can be quirky too. If you program one and the car starts but the remote buttons don't work you used the wrong frequency fob even though everything said that was the correct one. Join NASTF and pay for key codes. Lishi's are OK but if your busy in the hot sun trying to figure out cuts while calls are holding just pay for the codes. Some older Mopars you have to pay for pin codes anyway. I hate all these extra expenses but we are so busy we can't spend hours on these cars like a hobby or DIY guy would. We charge on the higher end of the scale and warranty our work. We have fly by nights working out of their trunk with $3.99 fobs and Lishi tools doing them for $100. We have had customers call saying these guys spent 3 days on their car and couldn't program it. We charge $350 and are done in an hour. You get what you pay for. You can get into the $6-700 range for Euro's.

@@johnmwangi6291 UHS has paid classes online and in person. That would be a good place to start. You need at a bare minimum $10,000 in equipment keys and fobs. You also need some advanced auto knowledge and how to take things apart. You could also start at the bottom and take a job as an apprentice with someone willing to train you. I have trained guys with zero experience. I also have guys working for me that just do lockouts. They really aren't interested in taking it further. They could make more money but they are happy just doing lockouts. Some cars you need to know how to take door panels off and on. You need to know how to take outside door handles off to make keys and open some trunks without making keys. Some cars after the alarm goes off it disables the electric trunk release so there are ways to circumvent that. 90% of customers with keys in the trunk tell me about the fairy tale car they own. Their car doesn't have an alarm, their electric button will work after we open it and the rear seats fold down. These people actually believe it and of course we go out there and none of the things they said were correct. lol Some PITA cars need a cluster taken off. ECM's opened on older ones. Kick panels removed to gain access to a connector. There is a lot to this. Some cars are dealer only as well. Everyday is different out here in the mean streets.

@@scotts4125 I got into keys just to streamline my shop repairs I dont go out and look for key work. So far so good. Used a few Lishi already, cut a few keys and also programmed, no significant fob programming yet. Still very low on keys since I wasn't sure what to go with as far as OEM/ Aftermarket. Im looking to do some promaster vans...you ever done any of those? looks like several keys on those and also BCM changes which changes key.

It’s amazing that you ended up going with programming. I really thought about it as well, get the locksmith part as well. I got scared with really spending the money for the scanners and the pass thru device without those I cannot do anything. This did help me rethink and maybe I can move forward

Good info, I would put some good thick clear tape around the QR Code as a lamination so it doesn't easily get damaged, smudged or Erased. Thanks for sharing.

I needed this so badly. I have the notorious Nissan Code and I had a transmission pressure sensor code. I replaced my valve body but I was trying to figure out how to reset the TCM without going to a dealer. I have the Lauch tool (not w/the immo) and now I need to check for that write option. I think I have it but I was scared to brick the car.

Hi Eric, I am 63 and you remind me of myself at your age. Mobile auto electrician. So here is my advice for the future and not make my mistake. Find a good workshop for yourself, with space and a ramp. If it means moving home , to a more suitable place. Do it. Get the customer to bring the car too you. Social media will provide you with enough customers. Also you could do a general service, which is easy money. The big problem with being mobile, is what to charge. Because the garage will say" is that all it was". Ignoring they couldn't fix it and it took you time to drive there, drive back , diagnose and fix the problem. What did you charge for the car that had a piece missing from the fuel lift pump .That was a great job. I mean this as good advice, because I burned myself out, from all the hassle . Fixing the odd problem is fine. Dealing with tough jobs everyday and never getting an easy one , is soul destroying. All the best .

Great videos I’m looking for a scanner for OBD1 that actually reads the values not just the codes. Like for the TPS, IAC, O2, MAP, MAT, etc. I work on old GM TBI a lot and also OBD2 I’ve found that Topdon max does both , any help thanks😊😊

Question: is there a way to turn off the auto power off when you have the car in accessory mode? My car shuts (2014 Nissan Alyima SL 3.5) down to conserve the battery when I am in accessory mode? Thanks in advance.

New subscriber here...I also do mobile work and I also added keys to my outfit simply because I didn't want to deal with having to rely on someone to come out....sometimes they do not show and im stuck with a vehicle for an extra day or two because of that. I ended up with an autel im608 and a Gymkhana 994 key machine and hopefully looking to add more as I need. I joined to possibly get some more knowledge on tooling or procedures to program pcm and other modules. I understand some makes are laptop based and others just need a passthru...need to get some help on how to stream line the process to make it as efficient as possible. Im also in the market for a new scanner. Will be getting rid of my snap on ZEUS and looking for something to replace that and also looking to get a laptop to do multiple manufacture coding/flashing work.... any recommendations would be great.
