2 weeks ago, we found out that my 12 years old son have Diabetes 1. Just couple of days ago we found out that my 16 years soon also have d1. They are learning all together lovely to know your brother supports you. I want to think that my boys will support each other ❤

I'm so sorry to hear about your two boys being diagnosed, Wendy. My heart hurts for them, and you, but at the same time I know they will have an amazing support system in one another that is so unique and valuable - priceless. Often times, with t1d I think the feeling alone is the hardest part, and because of their shared experience, now they are never alone. Nevertheless, I'm sure this is an incredible difficult time for you all and I hope you're doing all right getting to grips with everything for your 16 year old. I'm thinking about you all ❤️❤️❤️

I was diagnosed when I was 12 years old and now I am 23. Your videos make me feel like I am not alone with this disease, since I am the only one in my family with this condition. During my teen years I didn’t have a great relationship with my parents and was partying a lot and not managing taking care of myself which I regret sooo so much. Now that I am 23 I have been having so many stomach problems and health issues and feel like it’s all hitting me right now. I have been hospitalized about 5 times this year and let me just say my sick days are the worst and so scary, I cant even get out of bed and vomit all the time which leads me to the hospital. I recently got a Dexcom and it has helped me so much! Your videos are so inspiring and has made me feel like I shouldn’t be ashamed and that it’s ok to have a chronic condition. I have been opening up more about my condition because before I was so ashamed and would just hide it from everyone. Thank you for your videos! Happy blood sugars lol ❤️

Hope you feel better soon! I’ve been a T1 for 24yrs (I think, am English but diagnosed in Chicago...it’s a long story). When I’m sick, it does feel like a battle, I lose all control and struggle to regain it back. You are lucky to have your brother to lean on, I don’t have anyone to talk to about this so I really appreciate you posting. On a positive note, I’m switching to a Dexcom g6 and T-slim x2 in Jan and I’m looking forward to it! A little nervous but I think it’s going to really help me! Stay safe and take care!

You are a true warrior, and a beautiful person for sharing your life here. I am soon to be 79 and I am type 2. I use the G6 and have learned to love it. Sickness is truly a real problem.; In my case, arthritis and back issues. I have learned, the hard way, to keep my glucose levels in line by avoiding nearly all carbs and sugars. Christmas is a difficult time to do that with all the candy and good foods around. Keeping my glucose in line makes my body respond better and I always feel better. Recently, I had a Nerve Generator implant and that is really helping with pain and mobility. Never give up. You are very important to us, be patient with your body and rest more than you believe is required. Thank you for all you do here as it is muchly appreciated!!!

I'm so excited to hear that your nerve generator is helping you - that is SUCH fabulous news I'm so happy for your my friend!! Resting more than you think...I like that idea very much and can learn from this indeed! Thank you for sharing your kindness and wisdom my friend!! Haha now I know what I can expect when I get sick with T1D. I haven’t been sick yet since my diagnosis 7 months ago but keeping my fingers crossed. I’m finding out that trying to be your own pancreas is no cake walk. Nature can do its job so much better than I, and do it even without knowing what and how much food I’m about to eat. I have that information and I still can’t get it right half the time. But as long as I’m doing the best I can, I’m happy. I’m glad to see that you have a positive attitude.

Sorry for your illness and guessing you are better by now. Just subscribed to your channel a week or so ago and find it nice to know I am, and along with a plethora of others, in the same boat. Having used Medtronic 532, which is a basal unit, I over the years set up a couple of profiles for "feeling not so good" day(s) or really feel lousy day(s). For example my basal rate normally is 10.8 units per day. My not feeling so good day is 23.45 units a day and when really sick 31.35 units a day. Those settings really helped me keep in somewhat better control. I started the Tandem X2 with Control IQ with Dexcom G6 in November. I haven't been sick yet so it will be interesting to see how the Tandem handles that. But I do have those other profiles programed in if the need arises. Not saying my numbers are right for anyone else but the ability to have other options are available. FYI

To make my fellow diabuddies feel less alone is truly my #1 desire and quest (for myself too!), so it just means the world to me that this has helped you. If my blood sugars are really out of control I'll check my ketones, but otherwise I don't tend to do so - but I probably should! It's good practice! Because actually I've heard (and have experience it myself) that sometimes you can experience ketones without any high blood sugar. Every doctor in the state where I grew up was not helpful at all. Andrea, even when you are sick you are truly a diabetic diva. You remain cool, calm and collected. Your sweet voice is even softer when feeling so worn out. I simply take cover with lots of sleep 😴 and drinking extra water. This can be a tricky balance as I need to sleep but I also need the water to avoid the dehydration when my sugars are simmering in the 300 range while spiking over 600 just to change it up a bit. Ay, yi, yi. I am finally getting started with the DEXCOM6. Once I told Tech Support (they are the GREATEST 👍 at customer service) that I have Gastroparesis they said I needed to ask for the new Tandem T-Slim x2 with Control IQ. So I have finally received the pump and will be trained when the time is right. With the holidays I am fine with waiting until the new year. As for you, I just want you to know you shine 🌞 like the sun even when feeling low. I was going to look you up just to see how you are doing, and even more so to let you know I am sending ☮️ n ❤️ your way for the holidays. May you have the best of years in 2021. You deserve all the best, and kudos to you for finding the energy to make a video when feeling so wiped out. You are a great gift to our diabetic community 😊, and for all that you do we thank you!!

Just let it play in the background a couple of times when you do not feel quite well. The author is the US musician Krishna Das, a student of Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji). The images in the video are photos of Neem Karoli Baba. Maharajji inspired Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Julia Roberts among many many others. In the film Jobs(2013) there is a scene where Steve is reading the book called Here and Now by Ram Dass about his visit to India where he met Maharajji. I do not remember if it is in the film but Steve actually visited his ashram later but did not manage to meet him in person. Later Steve Jobs recommended Mark Zuckerberg to visit the ashram, which he did when FB went through hard times. KZfaq has many stories of western visitors describing Maharajji's unusual abilities. The stories are so out of this world that again they do not make any sense at first, and I think they should not at first. In the book called The Miracle of Love Ram Dass collected a thousand of these stories. I am not a Hindu but they seem sort of bewitching to me anyway. The lyrics are the 16th century Hanuman Chalisa kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtqPa9R5qLDJcoU.html This music is healing. Neem Karoli Baba said that he will never leave those who think about him. It seems Krishna Das feels his presence and blessing and his music has the power to bring tears to one's eyes all of a sudden with seemingly no reason. Please get well soon and do not risk going out if your temperature is high. You are so so lovely in this video ;)

Get well soon Andrea. I wanna ask the community on tips to get the full amount of insulin into my body using a pen insulin. It's become an issue for me recently since I started a low carb diet that requires such small dosages as 1 or 2 units most of the time. I find that the pen spills two drops when I take it out of my skin. Wish you all a merry Christmas
@Smasher-ut4ok
@Smasher-ut4ok 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve read lots of advice on social media on this subject, so I tried it and it works. Leave the pen in after injecting the dose, for a slow count to 10 or even 20. Then remove the pen. Much less drips out. Can’t always avoid a bit, but at least it’s better this way.

Another question: I am not a diabetic but now have been task with monitoring a few kids with CGM's and am to calculate counts and to input insulin doses. The counts etc find. I am not able to find instructions on what to do / how to operate these units after they have been in for a while. The company websites describes how to buy, initial set-up, and how great they are, etc. But nothing on daily operation. Could you direct me toward some caregiver instruction - I'm apparently missing a few things, thanks
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 3 жыл бұрын
HI! Oh my goodness - that's a tall order for you! Have the parents/any doctors spoken to you about this? The important and tricky thing to note is every single person is different in terms of dosing/operation. It's extremely important that the parents give you access to training for their specific child. I'm so sorry I can't be more helpful to you on this - it sounds like you're being asked to do a lot and you really deserve a great deal of support to let you do the best for these children. If I can help in any way please let me know. You are clearly an angel of a caregiver to take to the internet to search for help!

Hi. I became type 1 some 20 yrs ago when I was 50 yrs old. Also, I have always been 110-115 lbs. This was caused by autoimmune disease. I just got over being sick and "normal" people just don't realize how frustrating and difficult it is to stay on target whether you're sick or not. When you are sick, your liver produces sugar to fight the infection, which is the worst thing for us. My blood sugar was also above 277. Not fun. Just want to thank you for your support.
