The bird houses are for purple martins. They like apartment birdhouses and they eat tons of mosquitoes. Look them up...

You are a great inspiration. How long have you been kayaking? Even a gourmet cook! Your trips are well planned! You stow your gear in the boat! I have talked to the oru kayak people about you. It was bc of you that got the kayak! I told them that! They should sponsor you!

Wow, thank you for this amazing comment. Yes, I stow gear in the open areas within the kayak. I did recently apply for a partnership with Oru Kayak. I'm obviously a huge fan. Definitely open to a sponsorship. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Wow I knew the tides effect that area but i didnt realize by how much. I was standing under those bridges on my paddleboard no problem last time I was there.

Yeah, the tide make a huge difference on the Nissequogue. I can't believe you were still able to stand on a paddleboard under those bridges near Paul T. Given Park. Def. have to watch the tides on this one. Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@TwoFeetOutdoors oh you can bet on it i am from LI but live in CA for 30 years, i visit LI in summer sometimes... really nice to get back on the island this way... but for todd/amanda there i hope they get into the larger youtube hiking community.. it is a very large group of people that all kind of work together...example just monday i picked a guy up at the airport i had been following him on youtube for 10 years, got to take him to the PCT! so much fun... made me sad to see someone thinking youtube is all sadness, there are thousands of hikers on here making good content

9:20. They look like Purple Martin houses. They eat TONS of mosquitos. The owners probably just crank them down at the end of the season to clean them.

Definitely Purple Martin houses. Yes, they crank down so the houses can be cleaned. I lived in Aquebogue, near Riverhead. We had several Purple Martin houses, and they do eat tons of mosquitoes. Thanks for the vid! Go out and paddle Peconic Bay, if you haven't already. You can take the LIRR from Penn Station, NYC right to Riverhead and walk a short distance to put in in downtown Riverhead at the marina, which will take you out into Peconic Bay. Paddle over to Indian Island campground and stay a few days. It's a wonderful place. Maybe you've already done this and made a video about it. A bientot, mon ami!

So far you have been in 2 of my old stomping grounds grounds. Next time your back in Brooklyn go to Brennan and Car. The best roast deff dips around. Avenue U and nostrand ave

Norman's Levy. Awesome local spot. I like checking out the goats while my paddleboard inflates. Very tide dependent though. I've had to walk out of there before through all the mud 🤦

I really like your Kayak. I never knew that foldable Kayaks existed. I use a standard Kayak and it does get to be a pain to haul around, store, and I have to also use and keep a trailer. But this may be an option that I need to do some more research on. My main concern is how durable it is if you bottom out - which on the Nissequogue is sometimes the case.
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 15 күн бұрын
The kayaks are very strong. I've bottomed out pretty hard on a variety of objects and never had an issue. I was worried in the beginning but I've really put it to the test.

@@TwoFeetOutdoors Good to know it is holding up well. I am leaning towards the Tucktec version. I think the Ora is overall better and has easier portability the way it folds compacted and weighs a bit less. But, when it comes to budget the Tucktec has more appeal for me. Plus I do think the Tucktec solid plastic shell may be just a bit more durable in the long run. Thanks again for the video! It made me aware of products that I didn't know existed.

I believe the spot you had lunch is part of the landing ave golf course. If that is it years ago there was just a long thick rope hanging off a limb. With a hill behind it and you swing off the hill and swing into the water and let go. I wonder if that the spot
@TwoFeetOutdoors

You can see it in the video. There's a swing there now. Yes, the Long Island Greenbelt Trail runs through there and it's right near the golf course.

Hi Mike! Great video, been watching on my other profile. Really dig the camping out in the wilderness area of fire island, and loving these kayaking videos, especially the one in the city, never knew it was there! I’ve canoed this river before and it was fantastic.. my buddy lives in that old mill that you first showed, it’s interesting that it used to flood and her furniture is on pulleys for that reason.. was an old postal route station I believe. Question for you though; how do you get back to your car? Been really wanting to kayak some of the navigable rivers but always wonder how to get back.. Hiking I just Uber or have a friend/family get me.
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 21 күн бұрын
I really appreciate you watching and commenting! Thank you for subscribing too. Anytime I do a single direction paddle, I typically Uber back to the start. That wouldn't be possible with a hardshell kayak unless you left it at the finish then went back for it after getting back to your car. This is part of the reason I love my folding kayaks. Suits my adventures so much better. I like the versatility of them.

I grew up on Long Island I wonder how much of that River you paddled in from Smithtown to the sound was brackish how much was fresh how much was salt?
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 16 күн бұрын
I'm sure it's brackish the whole way. I'm guessing there's a larger fresh water percentage closer to Paul T. Given Park to the south. The fresh water Nissequogue running into the Long Island Sound would be brackish the whole way especially involving the rising tides.

Hi Matt - which model Oru do you have? Would you recommend it for lakes and relatively calm rivers? I have Wilderness Systems Tarpon right now, but want to get something more portable. Thanks!
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 12 күн бұрын
This Oru is the Bay ST. It's one of Oru's performance kayaks designed for choppy water. It has a closed cockpit and you can paddle it with a spray skirt. They have several different models, each designed for different purposes. This kayak weighs 26lbs. Easy to store. Toss it in the back seat. I'm a huge fan of Oru. I don't have storage for a hardshell kayak. Oru is the best for my adventures.
