In this spin-off video of my previous video, "How To Set Up An Ancestor Altar for Beginners", I delve more deeply into the basic protocols and guidelines of how to build the proper rapport and relationship your spirits. Though there are no "Ten Commandments" in how to work your ancestral altar, there are a few guidelines that you might want to consider in order to protect you and your loved one's auric field, and get the best encounters in your ancestral bonding sessions so that GENERATIONAL HEALING and evolution can occur.
Instagram: @AdunolatheOracle
DO'S
1. Pick a day and time of the week to sit at your altar and bond with your spirits for at least 15-30 minutes, and do your best to keep a set schedule every week.
2. Make sure that your body is physically clean. A spiritual bath after your regular shower is highly suggested as well.
3. Sage and purify your home with legitmate incense such as Frankincense and Myrhh, or Sandalwood.
4. Pick a time when you can have peace and quiet in order to concentrate.
5. Put the altar in a quiet place where there is not a lot of visitors, pets running around, or eyes on the altar.
6. Clean your altar every week! Keep the glasses of water clean, maintain fresh flowers, wipe down the table, make sure the white tablecloth is clean, dust the figures, and make it look fresh and pretty each week! This increases your good fortune!
7. Play pleasant, uplifting music at the altar that your ancestors would like such as gospel, jazz, meditation, Tibetan bells, drumming, or anything inspirational.
8. Speak to your ancestors like you would your living elders, with respect and authenticity.
9. Seal your aura and surround yourself in protective white light in order to keep out the wrong entities.
10. Sing or play your loved one's favorite music while they were alive.
11. Once you have set up the altar, COMMIT the table only to the purpose of ancestor communication and reverence. The table is no longer yours, but THEIRS.
DON'TS
1. Don't allow other people to touch your altar besides family, or your spiritual mentor (Godparent).
2. Do not put photos of the living on the altar EVER! Photos of the living do not go on the ancestor altar, but placed in a regular area is fine. The altar is STRICTLY FOR THE ANCESTORS!
3. Do not use the table as a place to store your items, set your drink, or place your electronic devices. The table is not yours!
4. It is not advisable to leave the candle burning overnight, or while you are away from home, especially if the candle is not sitting in a goblet of water.
5. Do not allow flowers and plants to die on the altar. Keep the flowers fresh, No plastic flowers either!
6. Do not just use your altar time to beg. Build a bond first. Don't exploit your people. Give it time for them to help. They are already willing.
7. Give it time in order for a particular loved one that has crossed over to manifest. Be happy with whichever spirit manifests to give you a message or assist you in an endeavor.
8. Avoid putting the altar in your bedroom or intimate areas.
9. Avoid being naked in front of your ancestral altar.
10. Keep the a border between the world of the "living", and the world of the ancestors.

Great tips. Trust me the ancestors want nothing but to form a bond with their living relatives. It took me a while to start mine (laziness) but once I did the bond with them immediately got stronger.

I've always had a good relationship with my ancestors, and sadly, especially since my maternal grandmothers passed on. They've been protecting and guiding me. I usually meditate and talk to them before falling asleep every once in a while. Now I want to honor them properly. I know they'll appreciate that. 🖤

Really great and well articulated points about our alter work. The points that I took away clearly is to actually sit with my ancestors 15-30 mins., talk regular, find out what type of music they like, be sure to show up clean and fresh; not hot from menstruation or after sex with scents and fluids that can trigger unfavorable entities, and never rush newer spirits to show up right away. Sometimes it can take 3-5 years. Wow, I didn't know that. Thank you...Very informative!!

I Love how real things got as soon as this video started. Seems like everyone else's alter video is all pretty & light & happy & they make it like you can just do any & everything. But this Sister shows us that connection between us & our ancestors (spirit team) is REAL! Love it! New subbie.

I think this might be the best information concerning ancestor altars. I like that you said make the table for them..that it becomes theirs. I have learned in my own experience that its a good idea to have a few different tables as to not be doing to much on just one table...scattered energy everywhere when you don't know what you're doing. Thanks Sis. Appreciate your video. Blissings to you.

I love doing altar work. I can feel the love I still have for my ancestors and the love they have for me. I have been doing an altar for about 4 months now and i get more and more involved with the occult world everyday. I'm learning about candle and crystal magic and learning about moon phases so this will increase my time at my altar.

For those who are interested and wondering can you hide your ancestors altar, especially if its in your bedroom, just get a 3 or 4 panel room divider or you can get creative and get a nice curtain and rod to cover up as well...If you want to learn more on how to make a room divider, search the bar here on KZfaq and they have all kinds of DIY videos...

Thank you so much for this. I thought I had to be naked and leave the candles. I asked my grandparents and recently deceased father and my grandma came in clearly and said she did not want my grandfather involved on her altar. She said she wanted specific colors and coins and that I should put effort into building it myself..I guess she was meaning what you said about an appointment time. So I have some adjustments to do but this was extremely helpful.

Yes, you can. But I would always ask your orisha if they mind. They will tell you.

Nathania Skeen The boveda is for Eggun and Spirit Guides. The boveda of Espiritismo is different than Orisha, but it is the first step before getting to Orishas, so one would ask their ancestors, not the Orisha for this particular matter of setting a boveda on the floor. 💙
