Love rhythm games and this one had caught my eyes. So cool the implemented SCAPI. One rhythm game that I immediately wanted to try and figure out with the SC is Rhythm Heaven DS because of it's touched based controls. I sort of got it working, but feel I never perfected it. Maybe it's something I'll get to messing around with again now that I was reminded of it.

DS games have always been an interest of mine since I got the SC. Stuff like Rub Rabbits, Osu Tatakae Ouendan, and (of course) Rhythm Heaven should be perfect. But it never quite lined up and I think it's because of the separation of the input and video. Dragging a cursor to an item will never quite feel like expressly tapping it. The closest we get is using Mouse Region with auto clicking but then it's a lot of muscle memory training to tap parts of the screen without a visual indicator. Not to mention that Mouse Region is square and the touchpads are round. Sadly, I ended up giving up on trying to recreate the DS feel on PC. I'll either end up buying a DS one day and playing native or adding some sort of touch display to my PC via a low end drawing tablet.

I missed out on the Steam Controller (internal screams) but still fun with the Dualshock 4, too

I need to get around to seeing how this works on a DS4. I wasn't too happy with the joystick control but the touchpad is simply too far out of reach to be conformably used for longer periods. I might end up getting a cheap turntable specifically for this game.

Thanks for the breakdown. Great to see Steam's API used well. When playing with joystick, is it just controlling the spin velocity by tilting left and right, or can you have an absolute mapping and rotate the stick to rotate the spinner?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Just spin velocity at the moment. You could achieve a rotation effect with Flick Stick but I'm pretty sure you already knew that :)

Now someone needs to make a VR mod of this. Screw Beat Saber!

I wouldn't take it that far 😂But certainly, a VR version of Spin Rhythm would be fantastic if they could set up the background to be a visualizer for the music. You could look around at this trippy scenario that is being made from the music. I'd really like to seem them team with with the Panoramical devs to create some really cool stuff.

Can you set the pad up to act like the scroll wheel type input or only swiping?

I just checked and it isn't possible currently. Both the Joystick and Touch bindings for Wheel Spin seem to only read X Axis motion. So you could technically pull it off as long as you only stick to only the top or bottom of the pad -- which really isn't ideal if you're attempting to emulate a turntable. But the game is early access and they have added a ton of user requests so I'll pass it along to the devs. You could duct this together and pull this off if you assigned the pad to Joystick Mode, ran the input into ViGEm (either through VDX or GloSC) and then fed that into JSM and used Flick Stick. It measures rotational movement and sends input across the X Axis based on how far you have rotated the joystick. So it is possible from a technical standpoint, it's just about getting the devs to implement that kind of input - output code into the game.
