This turbo Mode Thing is so amazing
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
4 years ago I posted a video showing off the SC in Dirty Bomb and for some reason this one comment stuck with me. It was something like "yeah, the gyro stuff looks alright for casual play but when you pulled out your pistol your aim went everywhere." Since that day I've found a way to have a "semi-auto" mode -- either a button, or a mode shift, or a Chord, something -- that gives me turbo shooting. I never wanted to sacrifice my aim like that again.

Great stuff. Thanks

pretty sweet dude! ... maybe one of these days I'll have to try gyro only aiming, but idk. I dont play a lot of fps' in the first place, and after playing some shooting games in vr I'll probably be playing even less (vr is just way more fun for shooting imo)
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. I still dream about playing Space Pirate Training. VR FPS is a blast and there is nothing else like it.
@Mennenth4 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinput I already like the more realistic aiming and shooting, but what really convinced me was watching flat game play of SuperHot. I had only played SH in vr, and when I watched the flat gaming video it looked... waaaaaaay less dynamic and cool (no disrespect to the joyshockmapper/flickstick dude)

I have been slowly evolving to this setup even before I saw this video. I have been heavily experimenting with x-input and the use with left pad is pretty much is useless for precise aiming. When cranking up the sensitivity for analog there is way to much jittering which has led me to turn the pad off or find other uses when aiming. Good vid. By the way I use 4 gyro settings, 2 for movement hip fire and 2 for ADS.
@SergioRobles4 жыл бұрын
You could make the right pad mouse, lower the sensitivity all the way so it doesn't respond, increase the size of the outering and switch to a layer or action set. This would allow you to use button press on the pad while still utilizing the radial menu.
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
The way I have it set up has a Center Button on the Radial Menu where nothing is sent. I could have a Click Action on the Radial and only click it in the center to get the same effect. The benefit to your setup is that you can control the size of the inner click and the outer ring menu, which would be huge for most people. I've put enough time into these oddball configs that my thumb naturally sits in the center of the pad now though.
@SergioRobles4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was my issue trying this out. I guess my thumb rest a little left of center. This gave me more area to rest my thumb.

Im trying strictly pad. Although I use Voice Attack and foot switches as well. This was good

Does the left trigger modeshift the gyro or is it trigger pull dampening? I like to have modeshift on left trigger but within than dampen on right trigger so when firing the gyro doesn't move around as much from the pulling motion.
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
LT is a mode shift simply because I I change more than just the sensitivity.
@davidyoung92894 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I'll try this for a bit, I'd like a frame of reference for the sensitivity. If you turn the controller 90 degrees, how much in game rotation? 270? 360x2?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Whatever is most comfortable. The Higher Sensitivity Gyro also has smoothing, MMT, and acceleration on it so there isn't exactly an easily transferable frame of reference since various factors can change the ratio between the input and output.
@davidyoung92894 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinput comfortable? Is the high sensitivity mode adequate for not just navigation, but for basic targeting such as item pickup or maybe even "hip fire", or do you have to use the left trigger mode for that?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
@@davidyoung9289 The lower sensitivity is honestly a crutch for more precise aiming. The goal is really to use the high sensitivity with med/high acceleration and get a feel for both low speed turning (low sens) and quick turning (high sens) and get rid of the lower sensitivity entirely. But not a lot of users (myself included) can do that. However, I'm getting better at using the higher sensitivity for hip fire spraying, though I'd never be able to do a long range, unscoped precision shot with it.

@@criticalinput so after trying this a week, I'm hitting some small issues maybe you have an opinion about: -The touch menu and radial have some latency, they don't fire until the menu is drawn. Solution is dpad, but you're limited to 5 buttons. (4 since one button is null) this is only an issue if you lift thumb for buttons though! If you're just sliding, then it's no issue. - cannot target the center of the radial well. I think the center "dead zone" on radial is too small, I don't think it is configurable either. solved with either touch menu (7 item menu had a large center button) or I put my null binding on the left side of the pad where my thumb rests. - the weirdest one: my right thumb now gets sore after a relatively short session. Counterintuitive, since the thumb now doesn't move very much at all. Wondering if you noticed this much yourself when you stopped using aiming on your thumbstick or touchpad.
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
@@davidyoung9289 You're quite correct about your first two discoveries. The small input delay from needing the menu drawn is why I typically keep my thumb in the "deadzone" of the radial at all times and slide to the various actions rather than tapping them from a non-touched state. I really only release my thumb to reset my hand position. As for the "deadzone" area being small and not modifiable, I think I just got used to it. I remember having issues with accidental inputs when I first started by now my finger just naturally rests in the middle. Unfortunately the physical size and shape of your hand does have some control over this factor, though you found a good workaround by simply changing which button on the Radial was the "deadzone." As for thumb pain, I never got any with the SC -- either with a swiping config or this radial menu based one. I wonder if you are simply extending it in ways that you don't when you are swiping since with swiping you start and end at positions that are comfortable for YOU but with a Radial you have set points on the pad that your thumb is required to go to. Just a guess though. It might sound a bit ridiculous but you could try doing some thumb stretches or exercises before playing. I started doing them (as well as hand and wrist stuff) late last year and I'm feeling a lot less pain when using controllers or typing. Levi Harrison is a doctor that specializes in hands and wrists and has some really great videos on youtube. You could start with this one which is designed specifically for the primary finger and thumbs -- the two most used digits when gaming. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ldp5i7p0mNOZf6c.html

So are you still going to be using and making SC content? I thought you were moving on to something new based on your Twitter?

This overview was done by request. I do have a couple of videos that were started months ago that I want to finish but I'm not actively using the SC right now.

what about trying out a template for warframe?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Probably not going to happen. I've tried Warframe a couple of times and I simply don't enjoy it. The combat is par none and I often say it's the Platinum Games of the shooter genre but every other system is infuriating.
@chuck02314 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's all platinum... and it's very infuriating that they have systems such as basically a slot machine to get prime parts through relics or even furs despite of already having purchased all the colors for your armor and ship (and yes, you have to buy colors here... it's ridicule.. some of them not even work fine despite of being a shade away)

I think that what I like about WF is having the advantage by using the Steam Controller to bullet jump, crouch and jump with the paddles that I can't see in any other game.. Maybe Doom Eternal would feel similarly provided the double dash and climbing, but still it's not as if you were bullet jumping as in WF.
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, WF has some phenomenal combat mechanics that really aren't replicated anywhere else in the industry. I would love for there to be a full priced, single player game in the WF universe that uses the exact same combat options. But all of the timers and drop rates and investment required to get anywhere are a huge turn off for me.
