A Jailhouse Swindle

The People's Court

The People's Court

Күн бұрын

The plaintiff loaned the defendant money to avoid eviction, but the defendant hasn’t paid her back, so she’s suing. The defendant says her husband and the plaintiff’s son are in the same jail and that’s how they met. The defendant insists she once drove the plaintiff to the jail to visit her son, and the defendant gave her the loan as a thank you.

@@k.lorrainethank you for showing everyone you have no moral compass. Maybe be a criminal defense attorney. Rapists and murders need people with no conscience like you to try to keep them out of jail. People with good morals would not just take money from others even if it was "charity". The initial comment used, “charity” in the wrong context. Charity is the voluntary giving of help. Charity is not a loan, it’s the opposite. There is no expectation for “charity” to be repaid. However, your point was still clear despite the improper use of the word “charity”.

Also, the defendant said she was handling a situation, however when the plaintiff called her to see if she could come over to her house, she said she told her could come right over. See, first they start the con by testing to see if you would give them the money they ask for, then they see you will do it, then they ask for more and then more, making up stories to con you out of your money. Then when you see what is going on, then they stop. The con job. The defendant's own husband was in prison for conning people.

She just met her. -Why don’t the dates on the letter from the boss align with the plaintiffs story? October 5th vs Mid November? I live by the fact that EVEN IF IT IS A GIFT, if somebody asks for payment GIVE IT BACK. If they are asking for a gift back, then they probably need it, so it is time to help them back in their time in need just like they helped me. I remember one Judge Judy episode where the defendant was ADAMANT it was a loan and right after she read the verdict and right before she banged her gavel (she may have already banged it) and turned to the defendant and said, "I am not wrong, but lets say this is one of the very few times that I am wrong. You borrowed it for XXX which is your responsibility and not the plaintiffs so you SHOULD pay it back. This is one verdict where if I am wrong, I won't lose any sleep over it." Plaintiff said that she didnt have any paper but the defendant did and wrote her name on it. Later plantif says its her envelope. Defendant says it was an envelope in her car. Did I hear that correctly?

If someone gives me money and tells me not to worry about paying it back then I'm not going to fell obligated to pay it back or feel guilty for not paying it back. If it's a loan then by all means you have to pay it back.

The Plaintiff saves her from being homeless and the defendant doesn’t pay her back? The defendant is nothing more then an opportunistic leech. Helping someone is different then ENABLING bad behavior. Case after case we see how it goes. One says loan, the other gift. The audacity is mind blowing. Loaning money to others is just bad finance.

People who loan out money for attention or to feel needed weird me out. Plaintiff gave her that money so those rides would keep going, I’m very sure her son and the defendants husband worked it out for the mom to pay her. Ain’t no way I’m giving a stranger money like that

Doug is hilarious but the defendant was on her game. Deny, deny, deny. She stuck to her story is all I can say so I believe the defendant technicality or not. She said that the plaintiff gave her money not lend it and clearly she did not have it in writing. Moral of the story, if you are out here loaning money, you better have something in writing, even it is a simple text. If someone was helping me, I would feel obligated to pay it back but not everyone has morals. I just couldn't take anyone money and my conscious not eat me up.

I think both are liars because at 2:08 the plaintiff said she asked her boss for 700 a week after first loan on 10/5. Then she said a month and a half later in the case. If she paid the first amount in person she would've known if it was more due. She also said as she was giving her the money her grandma called for her to pick up a check. So why didn't she keep her money. The defendant owed the 365 and should've just gave it back even if the deal was payment on rides. They should've handled each transaction separately.

Don’t tell people your problems so they don’t give a gift then get on hard time and turn it into a loan. Plaintiff knows she was lying. In good faith just repay the gift but NEVER tell so people can’t put you in a bind.
