Yutaka with Schizophrenia

I often encounter difficulties in relationships. Schizophrenia affects one’s behavior, personality, and thoughts. For a person with this illness, lasting relationships are hard. This video introduces my experiences and views on communication between people with disabilities and those without.

Reading the news online sucks. Perhaps...NO... CERTAINLY, ALL THE WORLD is in dire need of effective social and communication skills. They are essential to ensure world peace. And having just watched your video has reminded me that we must begin with ourselves. This means having the right attitude toward change - for the better. We must WANT to get better and DO what it takes to become better. I see this in you - you have what it takes. So as long as you stick to your treatment, therapy, and skills training, people around you will gradually begin to accept you. Go for it, dude! Got your back!

You’re not bad you have illness that you can’t control. You can be smart in different ways. I’m not scholar but that’s ok. My nephew has delusions and sometimes violent episodes. But, I love him and will never give up on him.

It’s not your fault. It hard for people to understand. Or you to understand people emotions. It’s ok. My nephew has it. When he having a behavior we just understand we go along with it.

I had a co-worker who had Schizophrenia. He was actually an excellent student, very smart. But, he just cannot work with people. He felt people are attacking him all the time. Do you have any idea how you got this Schizophrenia problem? Was it because a deep stress. The reason I asked is that in the auto immune problem, deep stress is always the initial problem. If you don't mind, could you please let me know your Schizophrenia journey.

In my case, the cause of my illness is rooted in my adolescent relationships. My family was complex and problematic. Like many others, I developed this illness in my late teens. Of course, I cannot ignore my biological background-my father has the same difficulty as me. Someday, I want to document my mental journey on film. Thank you for watching.

First, just because someone is a priest, it does not mean they are good at interpersonal relationships and maintaining good conversation. Priests are just like all of us and some are smart and some are kind and some are not. Secondly, I think you should not question your IQ. My reaction to you is that you are an intelligent person who has a disability that can have symptoms creating difficulties sometimes with others.

Thank you for encouraging me. Indeed, priests are diverse; I have encountered various types. Some are gentle, while others are not. Disabled people sometimes have high expectations toward those who show interest in them, which can be challenging.

I think you should preface conversations with new people by asking "do you mind if we talk about this topic?", or saying "please let me know if talking about this topic makes you uncomfortable". Also, explaining to new people that you have difficulty communicating would definitely make people a lot more understanding of you and less likely to be offended by whatever you say. Practising communicating with different people is also good as a way to let you learn how best to talk to people. Do your best!

Thank you for your advice. For a disabled person, lacking communication skills can be challenging. However, if I manage it well, things will improve.
