this is almost 10 years overdue but when they say "take him to Camelot" Camelot isn't the town its the name of the castle. In medieval times castles and the villages built under or around them were named separately. Sometimes they didn't have a nearby village and were entirely independent. The castle of Camelot is theorized to be based on Cadbury Castle which was also formerly known as Camalet. The nearest village to Camalet was Yeovill but it was miles away so the castle stood on it's own.

When I was a kid I read Arthurian stories and for some reason back then I thought Camelot was a fictional version of part of England like a county or a fiefdom, something to that degree. I think they described Camelot as a portion of England when they stated that in England's time of need Arthur would return and rule the nation, leading it into an era of unparalleled glory once more. I don't recall if they specified the difference between Camelot and England as a whole or not. Sorry, my memory is abysmal.

@Deathisdark05
@Deathisdark05 4 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorWhoKage That really depends on what you mean by "all monarchies." Monarchies have been around for a while and a lot of them actually accepted magic. It was probably only into AD, specifically when Christianity started intermixing within monarchies, that it bled into how certain monarchies chose to conduct themselves. By the time that King Arthur is estimated to have existed/take place, magic would have actually been quite accepted. As for witch-burnings, Lorax hits it on the head. It is a common misconception that burnings were a common way to kill witches. This isn't true at all. They were incredibly rare. People accused of witchcraft were killed in numerous ways. From what I can recall the more common method was usually hanging. So, it is perfectly sensible that Calvin has not been killed for "witchcraft." The things he's doing are just stupid and sometimes lacking in logic.

It's impressive how many times this has been adapted to the screen, though obviously not always well. When I was a kid, I saw the 1989 TV movie adaption starring Keshia Knight Pulliam (Rudy from the Cosby Show) as well as the 1979 Disney movie "A Spaceman in King Arthur's Court." Oddly, that earlier Disney movie featured the same actor playing Merlin as "A Kid in King Arthur's Court."

@brianstraight9308

Juxtavarious There's more danger to HIM in the past than the other way around. In the past without vaccines, medicines and eating food that's not been properly cooked or cared for to take care of food-borne illness people were more resilient to illness. Yes, there were still very nasty bugs and such, like the Plague, that'd wipe out populations but those were severe because they were the exception and not the rule. There's little he could bring back to them they wouldn't have a natural immunity for. Your immune system builds itself up from exposure and people back then were exposed to a LOT. The kid, however, grew up in a medically "clean" time. He has vaccines in him, he's been eating food that's been raised in environments to limit bacterial growth. That food has been kept in refrigeration to limit bacterial growth. Most of that food was then cooked to remove any bacteria. He's not had the same exposure to illness as the ancient counterparts so he's got a weaker comparative immune system. His entire life all he's drank is water that's been through a complicated process of purification with fluoride and other chemicals in it to make it safer to drink. People back then didn't drink pure, crystal-clear, water. The water they drank, when they drank it, was dirty. Remember the scene in "Back to the Future III" when Marty is in his great-grandfather's house and they serve him a glass of water and it looks like weak chocolate milk? That's because that water was recovered from a well and is filled with dirt. It's basically diluted mud. So our kid is in a time where water, the most basic and essential thing to human life, is risky for him to intake. There are diseases and stuff all around him that he's never been exposed to either practically or through vaccination. Stuff King Arthur and everyone else has been around their whole lives so they're immune to them, there bodies have learned to cope. He'd arrive there and pretty much instantly get a terribly bad cold or flu, worse than anything he or most of the people from his time has ever had and he'd die in a week after the local form of "medicine" drilled a hole in his skull so he could bleed-out the excess hot blood, under the assumption this would cure him of his ailment.

At least here, it's in one whole piece instead of split up into 2 separate videos. As much as I love The Nostalgia Critic's older reviews, his new ones have nothing on the old ones.; This is one of his older ones that I find to be a true & complete classic.

That discman laser deus ex machina is just so wrong on every conceivable level, not just the fact that the laser doesn't work that way. He was abducted directly after leaving a baseball game, did he have a discman on him while playing? He's wearing the beggar outfit in the scene where he uses it, had it just occurred to him "hey I should stuff a discman with no CD in it in my pocket just for gits and shiggles"? Also, he was fully submerged in water earlier, how did the bloody thing not short circuit then?

Hot British Sex. Hot Medieval Lesbianism. But aren't they sisters? I believe you have this confused for Game of Thrones. If I may say something that may come dangerously close to defending this film, from what I understand, it's supposed to be a very loose adaptation of Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court". In that story, a time-traveler introduces nineteenth century technology and ingenuity to Early Medieval England. It doesn't go very well. Here, that becomes having a blacksmith make roller blades and a mountain bike and turning a CD player into a laser beam weapon. Also, the "great circle builders" is supposed to be a reference to the builders of Stonehenge. Interestingly enough, Stonehenge figures in Arthurian Mythology.

Tabula Rasa If I recall correctly women did train to fight during this time just not as much as men. Vikings for instance these days are considered to be all men but we found evidence that female Vikings existed and even led armies. During Cleopatra's time Julius Caesar's sister led an army at age 11,beat his ass,and forced him to swim home naked. So yeah women could be trained in combat royal blood or not.

The only thing I can say is about the whole princess the main characters trying to making to his girlfriend. She would most likely not had any real experience with fighting people nothing but training with the dummies. because who would be dumb / crazy enough to try and kidnap a daughter of the king with the magic sword . But would have been better if she was properly dressed for a princess to explain exactly why she wouldn't at least attempt to fight back instead of completely choking and not even trying.
