"If they're on sale I'll get them, if they're not on sale, maybe not" basically my mindset 😄 I currently have a cheap set of interchangeables from when I first started knitting, so your thoughts are super helpful in deciding on an upgrade.

Thanks for your review. I’ve had my interchangeable Knitters Pride Dreamz for 10-12 yrs - at that time the set started with 2.5 mm up to 5mm tips. I love them. Just tighten the cords with the tool so they stay attached. Since all KP cords can be used with any of their sets, I ordered all lengths of their new KP Mindful swivel cords which I love - no twisting up like other cords and they’re inexpensive-around $5 each. I also have the KP short metal tips (ordered separately) for working socks, hats, etc.

I love my Chiaogoo needle set for many of the exact reasons you speak of. I get much nicer stitches on wool yarn with them. However,I’ve noticed that my stitches look better on plant fibers and silk, using my Lykke birch needles. Go figure. When purchasing needles I knew that stainless steel and wood were a must. Just don’t want aluminum or nickel exposure. I always look forward to your videos!

I bought fixed circulars over time as I needed different sizes so I don’t have any interchangeable sets. I also use both bamboo and metal needles depending on the yarn. I store all of my needles in the package they came in, rubber banded together in size order by cable length. They all fit neatly in a photo storage box with room for my crochet hook roll at the end. I put post-its on the empty packages indicating which project the needles are in which lets me know where the needles are and makes putting them away super easy. I still have my straight needles in a separate needle roll, but I rarely use them.

One thing I think it's worth saying, especially to new knitters, is that the yarn and needle may not work together. I didn't know this until my second knitting life, when I tried after a very long break to knit a lacey scarf thing on huge *plastic* needles in my first project after starting again. The yarn just wouldn't slide on the plastic and I gave up. (I was limited at the time to purchasing from the not very good local craft shop which had a small knitting section). However, I did try a different project and get back into knitting (yay!) and later, due to 'meeting' other knitters online, I discovered that if I'd had a different sort of big needle - bamboo, wood or metal - it might have been a breeze. So one thing I check now before I settle on a needle for a project is that the yarn will actually slide easily along the needle.

So I bought the complete chiaogoo 5 inch red lace set a year ago and I love them. I have the shortie sets as well. I don’t love magic loop so I love the shorties for sleeves and hats and socks. This year I was influenced to get the seeknit koshitsu. I got the 4 inch and it’s bamboo so at least a bit different. Tbh I love them so much, it overrides my buyers guilt. They are magnificent to knit with.

I love the Knit Picks Foursquares, especially in any needle over size 5. I find them a lot more comfortable to hold sine they are squared off, but have more rounded edges than the Knitters Pride Cubics. Metal needles bother my hands, so I only use them in the tiny sizes where the wooden ones can break easily.

I would love to have all sets in the world because they are nice BUT after knitting a while I realised that there are several sizes I often use. So I would recommend to get a basic set (I bought DROPS Classic set for 35 euros) and then add some othe singles from other brands. And I store mine in tin cans too :)

I'm a relatively new knitter, and got a CG interchangeable set straight from the beginning-and never had the cables or needles come off, but my set came with keys, and the red rubber grippy-which I use every time I connect or disconnect from the cables. Also... You can sharpen wooden needles with first the rough side of a nail file, followed by the smoothing side. I have a few sets of Clover dpns, and wanted the sharpness to match my metal, and it TOTALLY works, even with the fine fiber projects I've been doing. Love your channel-thanks for the review!

So I have purchased clover bamboo and chiao goo sets and love them both. I typically reach for CG though. My sister gave me a lykke laminated wood set and I had never used wood before and felt like it gripped the yarn too much when I first started using them. I will say I don’t understand the hype around lykke but I do like them especially for super slippery yarn. I have purchased singles of some knitter’s prides fixed circular needles and absolutely hate them 😂 so it turned me off to that brand but it was none of the ones you mentioned. If I lost my clover and chiao goo sets I would immediately buy them again.

There might be something wrong with your Chiaogoo cord(s). I've been using these needles for a long time and they never catch nor come loose. Now, it might just be a question of how our knitting styles differ, or it might be a defective cable. They'll send a new one for free if you contact them. I had a small divot in one of my needles and they sent a new set, no questions.

I have the Chiagoo interchangable set and the Knitpro Mindful interchangeable set and I find them very similar in terms of the needles and the cables. I find it a bit annoying with Chiaogoo how they have small, medium and large cables depending on the needle size. It means you need cables in different lengths and different thicknesses. There is a converter you can use but it's quite bulky and a bit hard to get the stitches over it if you are working at a fine gauge.

My favorite so far is Knit Picks Cocobolo interchangeable needles. I think they are discontinued now but I bought both the 5 inch set and the shortie set. The tips are sharp and the wood feels strong and smooth. I also love my SeeKnits - these needles are extremely light and comfortable in hands

I just love my addiClicks out of olive wood! I've been using a lot of my mom's fixed circulars for years and wanted to have my own needles 😄And I have to say I'm really happy with the addi ones, the olive wood is nice and sturdy and the surface is super smooth for being wood needles. I can work both with metal and wood needles pretty easily but due to sensory issues I mostly tend to use wood needles - I can't stand the sound/feel of metal rubbing on metal I do have the chagoo shorties set though 😂 I needed needles in a small circumference (smaller than 3,5mm) and decided for those... I can use them but not everyday as the not super smooth surface can really make me shiver in a NOT good way 😂 The cords are great but I prefer the addi click system to screwing them in and having to tighten them additionally

I started off with Chiaogoo complete set. Loved them so much and got a good deal so I got the 4 and 5" sets in stainless and bamboo. Then I found out about Seeknit and couldn't help myself - they were just too beautiful to pass up. If I were to advice anyone, I would say get the Chiaogoo for stainless steel and Seeknit for bamboo. I also have the Lykke set because they were $80, but I don't use them. Then Chiaogoo Forte got released and of course, I had to get them. I definitely do not need any more needles.

I have never bought a set of interchangeable needles, i just buy the needles individually as I need them for projects. This is because my mom is a knitter, who already has a collection of interchangeable needles (so if I got a set, I would just end up with needles my household already had and didn't need), and when I started out knitting I just borrowed hers until I needed a size she didn't have, so I just got needles from the same brand she had, which is knitpro. I didn't think about it at the start at all, cause for me their needles are pretty afforable and easily available so with the fact it's what my mom already had, so I just kind of inhereted the use of them. Now, I've tried a lot of their different types of needles, and because they have so many different ones to pick from, I've never felt the need to try other brands (the only circular needles I have that aren't from knitpro are fixed short circulars for socks). My fave type from them so far has been zing, I think I personally just like metal needles more than wooden ones when it comes to circulars (I do really like wooden when it comes to double poited needles). For their wooden needles, the ginger ones are the best for sure. Out of all the types of wooden needles I've tried they're by far my favourites. I have to say I think the knitpro symfonie needles can break if the sizes are small, both me and my mom have had it happen to us. First I thought it must be my fault but my mom said they've also broken in her use more than once during her 15+ years of knitting so I think they might just be a bit more easily breakble? Now that both me and my mom have pretty sizable needle collections, I don't think I'm ever going to buy a set of needles either, cause I already kind of have everything I need. If I don't have something, getting one set of needles isn't a problem for me. Although some of the sets look really nice and tempting, I know I don't need them at this point.

I love my ginger needles, but do dabble and buy random chiagoo if I want a smaller size (I've given up with small wood needles as I just break them!) FYI the Lykke connection is the same as knitpro/knitters pride so I like to get my shorties from them for sleeves etc.

I live in Japan so it's kinda hard to get knitpro sets so i started my journey with secondhanded clover takumi set and it was awesome and still think that it's very easy to work with. but since clover doesn't produce 3mm and 7mm needles, that just irratated me so much so i just had to find other options. i bought chiaogoo complete set and i'm very much satified. and then i recently bought some seeknit needles just for aesthetic reasons. 😂

I bought the Chiagoo Forte set which was crazy expensive. They are blackwood with metal tips. The good part is the swivel that Chiagoos have with their range however there have been issues. They packed the wrong size in the smaller ones - this was replaced. The connection with one of the cords didn't allow the needle to enter and I sat on one which broke! Honestly I think its down to sharpness and slip factor with metal v's wood depending on the yarn. You look like you have plenty BTW :)

I’ve had my chiaogoo set for maybe 2 months now and I just experienced last week the needle coming off the cable. I wish the set had included the rubber grip, but I just pulled it out of my cheap Boye set that I bought from Joann’s (my first interchangeable set). The Boye set isn’t bad actually. The needles are a little more slippery than the Chiaogoo. I took the leap and got the Chiaogoo bc the cables on the Boye and on my Lykke shorties set were ticking me off 😅 (not flexible, though the Lykke did have the spinning cable which I liked). I’m very happy with my Chiaogoo and haven’t used either of my other sets since receiving it. My only concern with Chiaogoo is when I travel. I just took two trips with them and thankfully was not stopped at TSA (I didn’t take the whole kit, just pulled out the needle tips I might need and put it in my notions bag) but I’m nervous that might change in future and no way I would toss them at security. I might use my Lykke set for travel but also maybe not bc the cordssss 😅😂

I am apparently a metal needle knitter (probably because I have never knitted with silk and only rarely with bamboo or cotton tbh) and have the KnitPro Xing(?) as well as the HiyaHiya Sharps! I like them both, but have knit my last projects mostly on the Xings for some reason. Their tips aren't as sharp and don't hurt my fingertips as much when pushing my knitting the same way you do (the Sharps are REALLY pointy, unsurprisingly). Also I found it so easy to find additions or replacements for the Xings, so I definitely agree with buying into an ecosystem... I have several additional cables and a pair of shorter tips for them, and you can get those very easily on the net as well as some stores, ESPECIALLY since supposedly KnitPicks also fits into the same system? I also tried the ChiaGoo sock knitting set (the shorties with the really short cables) but they made my hands cramp SO BAD that I sent them back orz But I have been thinking about wooden needles, so the Gingers do interest me a lot...!
