The fun part is when the martini inspires you to do more drugs

This is my favorite New Yorker video since that one about the messy book store

Here are the prices I found online: 1) Chelsea Hotel: no price given 2) Gotham: all cocktails are $21 3) Le Rock: all cocktails are $22 4) Tigre: no prices given (or anything else, not even an address) 5) Sunken Harbor: all martinis are $20 6) Dante: $20 7) Bemelman's Bar: $35-$65 8) Aretsky's Patroon: $19 (I realized I missed one, but Shteyngart's voice was so slurred when he said the name of the bar and, unlike all the other bars, there was no sign shown.)

Thank you, I was wondering and guessing 20-30 bucks.

I just read the article, and was tickled to see this video while scrolling through KZfaq. I’ve never been a martini drinker, but this has made me want to be. I had no idea there were so many iterations of the stories drink.

he made cheeky remarks about her age and went a step too far! it was all in jest though, he tells the story in a really entertaining way during his Stephen Colbert interview

I wish you had included the prices (one martini, tax and tip) at the various bars you visited [for those of us not employed by The New Yorker].

New Yorker here who loves martinis - a $16 martini in Manhattan is a deal, $22-28 is more likely price.

I'm glad that he skipped over some of the best Brooklyn cocktail bars. They are crowded enough on Fridays and Saturdays without the boring Manhattan lawyer-doctor crowd braving the subway ride over.

As a New Yorker (and reader of) and an avid Martini drinker, I wish this was a better piece. Drunk or not, if you’re exploring or honoring the Martini, you should have spent a few more beats at Bemelman’s. More shtick than substance.
