When I first read Mockingjay, I thougth it was strange and interesting that District 13 was doing propoganda ads with Katniss for their revolution, but I figured it was to play the Capitol in their game. Now that I'm older, I realise it's strange, because a true resistance against a totalitarian regime would be more concerned with exposing said regime's lies and deceits to inspire people's free will. And that is why Finnick's little exposé about Snow felt more impactful. It's not glamorous shots against a fire wall, it's Finnick standing and telling the people exactly how it is. This then plays into the end when it becomes clear that Coin wasn't doing a revolution to free the districts, but to put herself in Snow's position as the next dictator.

yeees and to add some info from the books that I wish they would have put in the movies, Peeta suffered physical violence from his family and he didn't want to follow the cycle of abuse, that's why he doesn't use his strength or even think about killing in the games, which makes even sadder what they do to him and to hurt someone that he loves so much u.u

i’m here to defend my man peeta, he wasn’t fighting or wanting to kill anybody in the games, even when he could, because his whole strategy was to uplift katniss, help her win the games and get back to her family, make her look better for the sponsors, even in his interviews he always found a way to bring katniss up and make her look better. when he saved katniss from cato and got injured fighting him so she could scape, he did what he needed to do, in his shape he couldn’t help any longer, so he went to hide in the river to die basically. his propuse in the two games was always to help katniss win, never to win himself

@SakuraSaskey
@SakuraSaskey 5 ай бұрын
I thought that for the longest time and was so horrified. But then, I reread Mockingjay and there’s a line about some mutts and Katniss thinks back on how they were just made to unsettle them (her). It wasn’t actually the tributes bodies but she thought it was. They probably did use their DNA to combine with the wolves or something though. There’s also mentions of bodies of tributes being sent back to their families in a coffin.

The ending makes a lot of sense, but it is really amazing in the books because Suzanne is a phenomenal storyteller. She depicted both of them as people after the war with PTSD trying to get through life as really broken people. It’s really hard to say if they were happy, because when they had happy moments they were scared their happiness would be stolen from them again. And it made sense that Peeta and Katniss would end up together ever since Catching fire because when they had nightmares or were in stressful situations they both thought of each other or leaned to each other for comfort. They both represented a piece of home that they’ve lost and tried to build again.

i've read the books and the ending is underwhelming there too. its sadder, i prefer it, its a little more ambiguous in terms of peeta's recovery, but still kinda vague. i think its on purpose because like how are you going to finish this story that was treating it's themes as realistic as possible without a bittersweet ending. i think the fact that they had kids says a lot, about being hopeful for them, but revolutions and change takes time, they're difficult, exhausting, constant and you'll probably not going to see things getting better in you lifetime. i think the ending in the book is more like that, the movie is a bit more optimistic and that's why maybe it feels like if you pick it up it'll crumble.

In the book at the end, they talk about both Katniss and Peeta’s PTSD a little more. I think what you’re feeling is them trying to cram the whole ending/epilogue - which was mostly exposition/inner monologue - into a scene that’s mostly visual. They used some of that exposition in Katniss’ dialogue, but I think it was just hard to capture it all. As a fan of the books, I adored it, but I could see how it might feel weird if you haven’t read the books.

I feel like that’s part of it though. We see Peeta transform from someone innocent who literally does everything to help Katniss, and he turns into someone just traumatized who carries a lot of baggage. He’s no longer an innocent little boy (product of war). And in the books, my personal read was that Katniss felt like she always envisioned getting with Gale but (again) war changes people and it brings out the worst in us sometimes. Gale crossed a line that could never be uncrossed, and Katniss doesn’t so much “love” Peeta so much she feels like he’s the only one who could possibly understand her being a tribute, being alongside her, being from the same district and knowing who she was before everything happened. Or maybe she just… loves him in her own way? Idk. But it always felt like she wanted to save him bc deep down she knows it’s the right thing to do and that she can’t afford to lose someone like him.

@@CaulkMonglerHES THE REALISTIC CHOICE NOT THE IDEAL BAD BOY!!!!!! you're so spot on and I feel like that's what Suzanne was tryna say. Kat is very pragmatic, once Gale showed his true colors, she couldn't appreciate him as the hunting buddy anymore but as an abuser who didn't seek help. Peeta is the type who would go to therapy, reassure you, have the hard conversations and make sure you're on the same page before bed. Even after everything, he's a good person not hardened in too wrong of a way. Left with his eyes too open, but still the sensitive man she grew to appreciate. At first she was off put by how soft he is, but she realized the difference btwn wanting someone as tough as her and needing someone more compassionate.
@alexandrafrench
@alexandrafrench 5 ай бұрын
@@nailinthefashion THIS!!! plus, in the beginning katniss and gale are on the same page about everything. they hunt to provide for their families, they're both fatherless and protecting their families in any way that they can in the world they're in. peeta doesn't have the same upbringing, and has also only tried to survive, but without the same bonds katniss has to keep her grounded. however, he has the same compassion and longing to protect innocent people the same way katniss does (eg thresh and rue and each other.) they both use violence sparingly, while gale becomes someone who uses it as the first and only resort, and given the life katniss has led, its completely understandable that following the war, she wants peace and to rebuild her life without violence. peeta is the only real choice in that scenario, ESPECIALLY when you factor in the child murder and the death of prim that gale is responsible for.

Well the epilogue also takes place 15 years later…after katniss specifically stated that she did not want kids Peeta just so happened to convince her during those years and after years of healing she’s willing to tell her kids everything. I don’t think she would’ve had kids immediately after the games but she had 15 years to heal after so I’m sure that explains why she doesn’t look as sad. The pain isn’t exactly fresh even tho they both had nightmares, flashbacks and serious ptsd of the games for those 15 years. It’ll always stay with them tho and now she’s healed enough to be willing to tell her children someday
@maryooowoahh
@maryooowoahh 5 ай бұрын
YES THIS!! (but i want to add for non book reader who might be reading your comment that katniss didn’t want children because she thought it immoral to bring children into a world so cruel where they could be hunted for sport. peeta convincing her to have kids was NOT in a patriarchal “women must want kids so a man has to change the mind of a woman who thinks she doesn’t” way. he convinced her that the world was finally safe enough that she could allow herself the gift to raise children and start a family. it had been a desire she had but had shoved down out of fear for what that life would mean in the era of the hunger games.)

yall paid part one dust. that movie is so good and it was so important for mockingjay to be split into two movies. completely disagree. trying to squeeze mockingjay into one movie, we would’ve lost even more of katniss’s development than we already did because of the adaption. hard disagree that the movie could’ve been five minutes.

This part- the movies are already lacking so much context that they could be so much longer. Shortening it would just make it worse.

Right? I don’t know how in any way that could be 5 minutes, so much happened and it’s focusing a lot of Katniss mental state as well. I’m sick of things just being about constant action and plot plot plot.

Literally don’t remember the movie end but I know in the book they really underline stuff like them both having traumatizing nightmares and how they try to separate their kids from the extreme trauma they endured. It gave “we won at the cost of my entire life that I somehow still have to live”

Growing up is realizing that Katniss didnt want children of her own because she didnt want children to grow up in the messed up world she lived in. So the last scene/pages where she clearly changed her mind is representing how the world did change for something better 😢

Something that the movie doesn't mention is that the epilogue is like 15 years later ... so I don't think she should've looked more sad... the war has been over for so long of course she has to move on somehow!
