Yea man this guy even sounds like a wimp. Just look at his ass only doing 35mph in this video on a lower end mid range bike.In my opinion he was just afraid of the raw power on the vf1000f. I've had mine since May of 1984 and I love it.

I have a vf1000f2, no interseptor. Drive 40000 kms in 2,5 year. I have my licence 3 year now, im just a beginner. No problems. Is a good handeling bike. Perfect for my Size 189 cm. Most comfortable position for sport tour bike. In the beginning is like you drive a ship. king of the road feeling, big cockpit is nice. Not very fast for today standards. Not heavy for what u get. Very comfortable till 150 km/h, its oké for me. Still 320 kms on 1 tank. 😉 Sound is verry smooth.

Hir or miss when you bought 1 new. The issues the v45 had with there came in 1984 were a really big issue. When I bought mine in Dec of 1984. I had already known the issues these bikes had. Being that I found if you constantly change the oil at 700 miles and keep the oil level about a 1/16th over the fill line on the dipstick this problems almost doesn't exist. But with that being said there are many bikes that just can't get away with that fix. My honda vf1000f has 68,000 miles and nothing but Valvoline 10w40 synthetic oil bring used. These clutch bands inside the clutch basket love that oil with that slipper clutch.

The cam problem was easily avoided by not letting the bike sit and idle to warm it up. Just start it and go. Just don't pound on it until it has some heat into it. The engine did not supply sufficient oil at a cold idle for the cams. It was all the first Gen v4 engines.

I had an 84 1000F and found it to be an excellent sport/touring bike at a time that type of bike didn't really exist yet. Picked up an 85 VF1000R couple of years later and quickly found it had less usable torque than the F did around town. On the F I could run around town at 30MPH in high gear and could leave it there. Once I got to the end of town and speed limit went back to 60MPH the F would happily accelerate. The R on the other hand required a downshift to keep up until 50MPH. The deal breaker on the R was how it rode in a crosswind. A sudden gust of a crosswind while riding at speeds in excess of 60MPH would push the bike in the opposite direction you expected? The F did not do that. I also rode an 83 V65 Magna the first year they arrived. That bike had balls. Not the best seating position for sudden acceleration though. My current ride is an 02 Yamaha Fz1. My favorite bike after just over 40 years of riding.

I had both the 750 and 1000 at the same time. They looked similar but they were different bikes. The 750 handled really well but was about 10 or 15 hp down from what it should have been. The 1000 had tons of power but they didn't handle near as well plus the extra 85 pounds more the bike weighed was noticeable and I like bikes that handle more than top speed. I happy you enjoy your VF1000F it just wasn't for me.

DeathsStalkerRVT ... I think you’re over stating the difference in weight, especially when the two bikes were extremely similar. The 1000 was the 750 motor, just bored and stroked. Frame was extremely similar as well as the front forks and the rear swingarm. Maybe there was a little extra weight attributed to the bodywork because of the faring and tank arrangement but that’s about it. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it as well as I do. I still have the cycle magazine where they reviewed the 1000 and they made it very clear that it quite possibly could be the perfect motorcycle. They really had no complaints regarding the handling & power. Other than the fact that the power delivery was very linear with no sudden rush. Are you sure you’re talking about the 84? Because it seems like you’re describing the 85. The 85 was much heavier and slower.

DeathsStalkerRVT I have an 84’ and found a big improvement with Wilbers suspension all round. They take you body weight into account when ordering, then it takes a little time to adjust to your needs. I live in England and don’t get much of a chance to put it through its paces, so an annual trip to Scotland with their nice consistent bends, good surface and very few police gives a great opportunity to open the throttle. The steering is a little twitchy, which makes countersteering a delicate operation. Tire choices are becoming limited, my recent ones being Avons, the drifting in the bends when doing around 80-90 causes butterflies in your stomach. On the flip side, I took it down to Northern Spain on the hilly and mountain roads near the Bay of Biscay and found it heavy and awkward at times, but then there was some extreme hairpin bends which could cause sudden bowel movements. In the UK the VF1000f’s were fitted with lighter fabricated Comstar wheels, rather than the heavier cast aluminium wheels in the US. Possibly that may make a difference with braking.

I've owned THREE Interceptors. 1984 700, 750 and then the 1000. I think it was an '86, not sure. I liked them all, but the 1000 was the fastest. I loved the 6 speed transmission and 112 HP V4. I only had each bike for one season or so. Maybe two. Then got a '75 CB750, and then a '76 Harley Davidson Sportster 1000 AMF. Then one day in 1996, I gave up riding thinking I had used up all my 9 lives and better retire from riding. I'd like to get an around town bike someday, though.

No question the 1000 interceptors was fast and very smooth, it was just a little too heavy for my taste. The one I wished I had tried was the 500 interceptor, a few people I know had one and raved about how good they were. I had to take a enforced break from riding I blew my knee out at work and missed the remainder of one riding season and most of the next. That break was all I needed to get back on the bike (1988 Honda NT650 Hawk) but my couldn't ride for long due to the foot position had my knee resting at the repaired but still a little damaged area. That's when I switched to a RC51 because it doesn't hurt my knee (that the story I told my wife and I'm sticking to it) ;-)

I actually liked the kickstart . To be quite honest I really missed kicking over a motor when I sold that bike . I really wish I hadnt . I did a piss poor job of maintaining it due to ignorance like putting regul motor oil in it with friction modifiers instead of jaso-ma2 wet sump oil and things of that nature and the poor XL600R suffered due to my skills . But never the less she was an excellent bike .

Read a whole review for this bike. Due to its heavy weight, sales were not as expected. Even for 80s standard it was a whale. Some touring machines weigh less than the VF 1000 R. Because of this, sales weren´t that great back than. Cornering isn´t that overwhelming, but still made the quarter mile in 10,80 seconds which is great considering the Hayabusa made it in 10,30 sec 15 years later. The weigh ratio are for both bikes quite similar. Another + ist the sweet sound of an V4 engine which by far is the best sounding engine in my opinion. The looks are quite good for its age. It aged pretty well. The taillight and one seat look makes this bike look sporty for its time, when you consider that the early super bike models had a more ugly long seat bank.

Just wasn't there because you couldn't handle what this bike was capable of. You say it was to heavy, well try doing 140mph on those bikes you say were better. And you'd see why the vf1000f needed to be heavier. Riding at 150 mph it holds the road like no other for its time. What I get out of this video is nothing more than you never wanting to go more than 70mph. Who ever bought it off you did you a favor. Because if you didn't get rid of it. I'm betting you would of never went 100 mph on a open road. And that bike your riding in this video sounds like a lawn mower. And seeing you doing 35mph on it sums it all up really.

WEGGYS MOTORCYCLES UK I know the RG500 are going for stupid money these days but the one I owned had constant carb leaks, fuel leaks, 3 belly pans cracked and finally the engine blew. How about regret for not getting a bike? I purchased off the same dealer as Death Stalker did back then, and I was supposed to get an RZ500 in 1984. Second in line, and the dealership only got one allotted to them. I had already traded in my 1983 RZ350 and an XR500, so the dealer gave me an FJ1100 instead. Great bike, but a bit porky in the corners compared to the RZ. Then again, I may not have survived the RZ500...........LOL!! You crashed it twice because you don't know how to ride man. I'm 60 years old and bought mine in May of 1984 new and still have it, never laying it down once ever with 72,000 miles on it and it rides and handles now just like it was new in 1984 when I was 22 years old for $4650 in Warren Michigan. Some people were not meant to be on a bike they thought they could handle only later finding out there not capable of riding 1 of these classics. And as far as the handle bars they could be adjusted to fit the driver comfortably. The problem you probably had was no air pressure in the forks and you had the TRAC adjustment knob on the forks set to #3 which is probably why you were having the issues you had on it. If you were fortunate to have a owner's handbook and read it. You can clearly read how to set up the bike to ride. But I'm betting you didnt. You guys kill me. Buying a vf1000f and not even knowing anything about the bike what so ever.
