Holy Crap. This movie reappeared after many years. I've thought about this movie a lot since I was a kid. The video cover would haunt me on the shelves of the video store, and we eventually watched it. It genuinely terrified me, and has haunted me for years and I've never known what it was called. That is so weird how a dumb movie can have that kind of effect on a young mind.

Its effect is most noticeable when it stops to let an actual clip of the movie play, and no matter how intense, strange, ridiculous or violent that clip is, when Mark shows back up and the music continues, it brings you right back to the spirit of the review, and Mark's whole vibe. Really keeps the flow of the entire video going. It's a brilliant addition. Primm's hood cinema has a similar style that is just as effective.

It is so strange how a movie can resurface after so many years. This movie, while obviously stupid, scared the hell out of me when I was very young, to the point where I still think about it from time to time. Freakin' love the MST3K version ("Being from Another Planet"). I remember wanting to see the movie as a kid when it came to theaters. So glad I didn't, as it would have been a sad memory if I'd watched it. I have to say, though, the story could have been made into a pretty cool film. The basic story is unique and interesting enough to do something with. It was the execution that was so bad. I could see it being worth looking at doing a proper reboot, imo.

4:55 I think you're into a great movie idea with your "blessing from ancient Egypt" rant, Mark. Here is what I propose as a pitch: A very talented but rookie Egyptologist uncovers the tomb of a forgotten princess. As he tries to decypher the cartouche on the sarcophagus revealing her name, he misreads it and unwillingly recites a long forgotten sorcery spell instead. This resurrects the princess, restoring her outside appearance in the process. His feverish passion for the discipline made the magic possible. They then meet during a night and he gradually falls in love with her as they spend time together, in the kind of poetically pure but morbid relationship you'd see in a Tim Burton movie. But she had her innards removed during mummification, which makes her suffer with unbearable phantom pain every once in a while. The egyptologist has not only to deal with guilt about it, but work on a way to send her to the afterlife. Indeed, he's running against the clock: soon, his visa expires and his nosy and coldly scientific colleagues are dangerously close to find the truth out...

Also, you've probably got a million films lined up for videos but one more to potentially consider, Robo Warriors from 1996; it's got James Remar, awkward narration, giant piloted robots & the main character's family somehow still living in a perfectly normal modern house with all the amenities despite it being set in a dark, bleak dystopian future under "tyrannical" alien control.

Ah yes, this movie. Featured in season 4 episode 5 of MST3k under the alternate title "Being From Another Planet". It looks like a restored version of the film itself is available now, which I will have to watch, as the MST3k episode is pretty low quality in terms of resolution. Also, it looks like the MST3k version was heavily edited (as they usually do to fit censors and time slots) so seeing the complete film will be a treat, I'm sure. Thanks for covering this one, Mark, and I can't help but agree with the Bots with their "this movie SUUUUCKS" chorus over the end credits.

I knew this movie would get Mark really worked up, lol, and I was wondering when he would get to it. Glad he finally did. I always thought it had the ultimate definition of a cop out ending and that's what makes it so infuriating. Anyway, the review was really fun and super entertaining. Thanks, Mark - it was certainly worth the wait!

this movie scarred me as a child and i called it the fungus mummy and my dad would torment me with the idea of the fungus mummy.......im 37 so finding this randomly is so cathartic seeing how silly it is.....thank you for saying the fungus mummy......a true hero.

Mark, I don’t usually comment a lot, and I don’t typically enjoy low budget B-movies…but YOU are the only one that can make shit like this entertaining as hell and I’m all for it every time. You are absolutely killing it my brotha, keep up the amazing work and thank you for everything!

Fun fact, poor Parker is such a non-character, the actor playing him is called Bob Random. He is literally a random NPC.

For the "Who showers at night and who showers in the morning" question I felt disappointed a third option wasn't available: annoy people to no end until they spit at you then shower in the consequences of their hatred..... seems 1960s horror movie normal to me.

Lately the trend is that the characters usually have to break a stature that happens to be hollow inside and the evil spirit is released after thousands of years and it gets hectic. It's a combo cliche between opening esophagus's and genie bottles. I've noticed it. Expect to see more of it. There is nothing original in bad movies except the plot holes.

This movie has huge leaps in logic, really. How are we supposed to accept that scientists just randomly touch green mushy goo in some sarcophagus, but no-one takes a jab at the eyebrows of that cop guy at 9:45? Suspension of disbelief broken, man.
@NatureFactsDesk
@NatureFactsDesk 2 жыл бұрын
It just hurt when those guys, those grown-up adult scientists guys touched the unknown green fungus in an old sarcophagus... Also, two things I gotta find out about this movie are if the eyebrows on that cop are real and ytf did this movie not get continued.
@leetri
@leetri 2 жыл бұрын
@@NatureFactsDesk I can kinda excuse them touching the fungus since there only exists a single species of fungus on Earth that can be dangerous to touch, so most people wouldn't think it would be dangerous. It's not as offensive as in Prometheus where the scientist tries to touch the face of an alien that clearly looks a LOT like an aggravated cobra. You need to be a special kind of stupid to reach out towards an angry snake.

Where's the Alien from? Why was he(or whatever) entombed in ancient Egypt? Why did the mold junk look like Oatmeal & green food coloring? Why was that dude whose hand got slimmed so pathologically skinny? C'mon man he must be a bad dude Alien, nah? Oh craps! I wonder if the Mummy Alien was conscious when he was mummified? Wow! I'm seeing trails....on everything! The colors are so colorful! Wow we wow! I can smell colors and time.

I’m more interested with your ancient beetle idea. As my imagination serves me, which should be accurate enough to history, this should give you superhuman beetle powers. I don’t mean the powers to start a very successful band, where you eventually break up, and everyone blame it on Yoko Ono, which I for one will. I mean the powers to blindly fly into people and things, fall to the floor, and still recover to fly into other things, as an ability unheard by any human in history, to save the planet somehow. Idk. Something like that, or better. I’m not a writer. I’m just a guy that loves good entertainment.

It's not even that far off, as important or wealthy enough people usually got everyday equipment placed inside their tombs. Be it fake food, little figurines of workers and mistresses for the afterlife, or clothes, furniture and tools. Why not add a bedpan, so you don't have to shit into Osiris' flowerbed?
