A New Gear For The Philips DCC 951 And 730 DCC Recorders. The Rattling Noise Solved.

A cracked gear on the Reel Motor Assembly that is connected to the Idler Wheel Windmotor, will cause a rattling noise during Wind and Rewind.
We have created a replacement gear and in this video the installation process is shown. By far the easiest gear to replace on all DCC players we did so far.

I don't think I remember EVER hearing my DCC730's WITHOUT the rattling. Someone pointed it out to me at the DCC convention in 2019 and now I can't un-hear it.

My 951 started developing the noise after about 10 years. I didn't pay much attention since I thought it was actually the DCC tapes. Now I fully realize that the almighty DCC tapes were made to much higher standards than "mere mortal" compact cassettes! Now I will buy a new gear. Thank you Ralf for setting me straight!!!

Today I finally had the time to replace the new gear of my DCC 730. It now sounds more smoothly 😃. Thanks Dr DCC for sharing this video, which helped me through the job. Please be very carefull with the loctite as during the gear placement it slipped down to deep. This caused that loctite went down to the motor block which glued all together. Luckily i noticed this before replacing, but do to this the motor/gear got glued together and therefore got stuck 😟. I had to use a knife to remove it. So again lessons learned today 😃. Maybe you best skip the loctite.

Lee Fang I am afraid it could slip without glue. I have received reports that a thin thread wrapped around the shaft also works.

I'm getting a very high resolution SLA 3D printer and some high strength ABS like resin for this type of applications, I would love to have an old gear sent to me for accurate measurement to see if I can produce a smooth looking gear, I believe it will look much cleaner than the one you put on, The 3D printer has 35 micro-meter resolution, I live in California by the way.

They took all the DCCs, put 'em in the DCC Museum And they charged the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em ...couldn't resist.

I don't think they are taking away your deck and charging you to see it, They are actually doing a huge favor for all the fans of this technology by keeping it alive. and if you happen to need help with something just watch their videos free of charge or send it to them if you can't do it yourself and the'll fix it for you.
