A visit to the infamous Kingaroy Peanut Van is first on the agenda as we embark on a beautiful day on the KKRT - The Kilkivan Kingaroy Rail Trail.
The first 50% of the trail is sealed with bitumen, although rather shoddily as we soon find out. The latter half is all very rough by rail trail standards and in places it seems like the trail builders have simply lifted the old rails up and just left the rubble as it is.
Unfortunately the conditions of the trail lead us to make a tough decision, as our limited time makes it unlikely that we will be able to make it to a very important meeting.

D&B Cycling Australia is a video series documenting our time bicycle touring Australia; a bicycle tour led by our desire to seek out roadside attractions -- everything from the interesting and quirky, to the macabre and obscure.
We had initially planned on bike touring Australia as the first leg of an around the world bike tour, but the Covid-19 Pandemic that struck mid way through the trip forced us to change our plans and extend our Australian cycling adventure.
Thankfully Australia is a huge country with plenty to see, so we'll continue cycling around Australia until it's time to move on to the next adventure.

Beautiful town Wondai . We stopped there at the Driver Reviver many moons ago. Dave you asking about them earlier on in your trip. They are usually only open at the start and end of school holidays and are maned by volunteers 👍

It sure is! Ok, that's pretty interesting that they're open during such specific times! Who knew!? Cheers

19:14 The Cutest of the Gourds - might be a reference to Start Trek the Next Generation Locutus of Borg ! Apropos the rail-trail: that is one I want to do: K-K, probably over four days, NE-bound - i.e. downhill; it is good to see the 'rough' is within my range

Yeah the trail is pretty decent, but we found it a bit rough for our loaded touring bikes - would have been super easy on an unloaded MTB or the like. We could have done it if we wanted to spend a lot of time there, but we were ready to just get the show on the road. 🤷 As far as the Star Trek reference goes - If only! Neither of us really know anything about Star Trek. 😅

I was waiting for you to feed that magpie!!! They're smart and friendly when they know they can trust you. That was a cool video. Well done you two.

Thanks D&B, for the weekly instalment! It's sorta like Saturday arvos at the 'flicks' (as we used to call the movie theatre), when there was usually a Hopalong Cassidy serial or some such. Anyway, I have to hand it to you for persevering with that bumpy rail trail; I would definitely have switched to the road much sooner. Oh, and the 'ubiquitous' Maggies! Gotta love 'em, don't you? As a rule of thumb, if they don't actually hit your helmet, they aren't regarded as dangerous. Boyoboy, you sure sampled some strange tucker! Loved it, as usual!

Haha, the flicks! We used to go to the "pictures." The maggies are just quite funny at this point, although we did have one that made contact multiple times while riding the Port Fairy to Warrnambool rail trail a couple of years back.

Came across your video as I'm looking to do the KKRT + BVRT in 1 day and wanted to get an idea of the track. Really enjoyed your video! Bit disappointed as I was wanting to see what happened when Bonnie turned up to Jurassic Ark with "666" on her shirt 😂

Thanks for doing the videos of the two rail trails + connecting route -- still definitely want to do this, although it sounds like it might be a while before it gets rebuilt in places. I might avoid magpie season though... They are my favourite bird, except for a few months when they're definitely my least favourite :D

Cheers Simon - its been a pleasure! The maggies aren't so bad! I find it breaks up the day with a bit of light entertainment. 😅

It is disappointing that the Gympie council doesn’t look after, or care much, about their section of the trail, Murgon to Kilkivan. The BVRT has been a real boon for all the towns on it. But the less invested in KKRT, not so much. And Magpies swooping in June what’s going on? Great video thanks for sharing.
@VeloObscura
@VeloObscura 2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, how about that Magpie? Bonnie was not impressed with his late arrival... Yeah, the KKRT was fun and all, but a pretty poor show from the local council. We've noticed a similar thing up on the Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail.

Just been looking through your KZfaq videos and Instagram posts and I just have to say what a magnificent trip you two are doing. Thanks for sharing it all. I see Dave has changed his bike at some stage, it would be great if one day you did a review of your bikes and gear and gear problems you’ve had along the way. Oh and how are you liking the beautiful table lands? All the best and safe travels.

@@Jamie.S. Cheers mate! It's been an absolutely incredible experience. The Tablelands are beautiful, but it's STILL raining! The wet season was meant to end 2 months ago! We're looking forward to exploring more once the weather brightens up. So, the bike is a bit of a saga in itself. I ended up slowly replacing various parts and customising it over time, but then when we were in the Otways I cracked the frame. Eventually they sent me a warranty replacement and I figured while the bike was dismantled I would powder coat the frame orange and customise a little more. So, it's sort of the same bike, but not really... I eventually broke the rear wheel too, so at this point the only original parts are the brakes, seat post and cranks! Once I finish editing all the videos up to date I'll be making various videos about equipment and setup. I'll make a video about the bikes and separate video about the stuff we carry. Thanks again, mate!

Grandad’s axe. Three new handles and two new heads. But it’s still Grandad’s axe. Great news about the reviews looking forward to it. Thanks mate.

Did the trail a month ago, now permanently closed from Murgon after the floods. The Goomeri Bakery had the best vanilla slice ever.

Deadlines and schedules suck while cycling but at times are a necessary evil. The older you two get the more you will agree. Hahaha Those magpies can be a bit aggressive huh?
@VeloObscura
@VeloObscura 2 жыл бұрын
Haha, the magpies.... You wouldn't believe it. Every spring they just go into war mode! The best times we've had on our trip are when we've been able to take our time and have no real agenda. Unfortunately that just isn't always possible as you know!
